I'm guessing Apple probably isn't going to let anyone develop any Swirly style apps that'd work on the original iPhone for the app store? (because duh, I have sent mms from my iPhone, it is possible)

It wouldn't be as nice as the full Apple kit but being able to use something other than Swirly (which I think is godawful) would still be nice.

I was thinking of getting the new iPhone and putting my 3G up for sale... now I can see I can do it here lol
But in all, the 1st iPhone will be 2 years old, I don't know anyone who keeps there phone longer than 2 years. With me, after the 1st 18 months, I can't wait to get a new phone.

2 year old phone = time to update

I have a feeling 3.0 might be the last free major update for the original iPhone. In the presentation today they said they were only offering it for free as a "special bonus".

Guess you have money to burn huh?

If it ain't broke, why should I replace it?
Especially when there is no legitimate reason for Apple to NOT include something that we all know the phone is clearly capable of supporting.
It's more Apple marketing to keep you upgrading.
Gotta feed the machine.

You're really telling someone else what to do with their money? How can you even hear everyone else down here when you're way up there on your high horse?

I have a 2.5G (one of the 16GB models when they first came out back in Feb 08), and a 3G on my plan. I think that EVENTUALLY they'll activate MMS on the 2.5G, though it may be a few months after release that they'll do it.

I believe it was the other way around my friend.

My horse is rather low compared to the idiot who is basically saying throw more $$$ at Apple because they decided to omit a feature on a phone that is clearly capable of supporting it.

It's because the radio changed from the first generation to the 3G. It all has to do with the hardware limits of the first generation.

What I posted is what Apple said in the Preview Show today. Read up on it.

I've read it. It's not true. My jailbroken 1st gen iPhone gets MMS with SwirlyMMS. Clearly, it's not a hardware issue.

That's absurd and horrifyingly stupid. I didn't upgrade every two years when I was getting my phones for $50. I spent $400 on a 1st gen iPhone to be in a 2 year upgrade cycle? No. I'll continue to jailbreak to get the features Apple is refusing to provide in order to force me to upgrade.

-1 respect points for apple today.

So you... don't know what that phrase means?
I know exactly what it means. It's late and I made a piss poor attempt at an analogy.
So while my original response may have appeared uppity to you (hence your high horse remark), bigchief's statement was completely asinine.

Now say good night Gracie. ;)

The more you talk the taller your horse gets. Seriously, just because you think his statement is asinine doesn't mean it is. You're not better than anyone else here.
