The reason I am not upgrading even if I can:

I am still extremely happy with my iP4

If I don't play around with the 4S, I won't notice any improvements in comparison to a device I am already thrilled with.

I don't want to get stuck in the "S" loop. Meaning every time I am eligible for an upgrade or contract renegotiation it's with a "S" model vs redesign.

I am here in Canada, and don't have any difficulty with dropped calls or reception, in fact, I am usually quite shocked when a call gets dropped.

Any serious surfing I do is usually in vicinity of Wifi so the faster speeds aren't really an issue.

Glad you are happy with your decision though, really that is all that matters.

The A5 dual-core is the main reason many of my co-workers are switching from Android phones. The thing's buttery smooth and faster than their brand new Androids. Siri's definitely useful too. I never type text messages anymore. Just speak it. I tend to mumble or speak very lowly sometimes, and Siri picks up on that and knows exactly what I'm saying.

The thing I love most, and what sold a few people....apps running in the background. Virtually every app on my phone was running in the background (roughly 65 apps), and there was no slowness in apps being actively used. In the words of a friend who just got the Droid Razr "My phone can't do that!".

Also. My phone froze recently. Where the keyboard was frozen in place over everything I was trying to do. Couldn't minimize it. I couldn't even power the phone down. This is the point where, with most other phones, people would be pulling the battery. Instead...double-tap. Close out all apps in about 2 seconds...keyboard's gone. Back to work.

The 4S is absolutely amazing. I can see easily having this phone, even after the 5 launches. Unless it has 128GB on-board storage. Then I'll just throw my money at Apple.

I upgraded when I was eligible from the iPhone 4 and love the 4S. I upgraded mostly for the extra storage. I had been wanting a 64GB phone for so long and finally got it. Siri was also a nice bonus.

See I actually prefer the second revisions. Redesigns are cool and all, but the second revision thus far has many more options worth waiting for. My wife had a 3G and I waited got the 3Gs and am glad I waited. Now she uses it as I waited on upgrading to the 4 and now love my 4s.

When the next gen hits I'm sure it will be great but will no doubt leave room for improvement that won't be far behind. So while early birds may get the worm, its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

I'll wait, I just wonder how many of the 4S owners will upgrade next year and now have to pay full retail.
Probably won't be full retail price. Maybe the subsidized price plus $250. No big deal especially since it should be easy to sell the 4S for much more than that.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I sold my 4 and paid the xtra for the 4s so glad i did. As op states plenty of advantages. Another point "haters will hate but everyone knows that its because there mad theY cant get the newest and best toys" and iff iphone 5 comes out nxt yr ill sell up an pay xtra again because thats why i work so hard so i can have the latest and greatest.

I agree there are large differences in performance between the ip4 and 4s and if that's a major factor to you, other than having the 'latest and greatest' then by all means upgrade.

However, comments like your other point aren't going to win you kudos, people aren't haters mate, they just want to voice their opinions for and against upgrading.

Be nice :)

On a lighter note, I recently moved from an HTC desire to an iP4s - Wowzer, what a phone!

the new OS update has little to do with battery use. The improvement for that will come in another couple of weeks. My iP4S battery is not quite as good as my iP4 but it is not bad at all.

Well a couple weeks has gone by and despite the update it appears this Batterygate problem is much greater than Apple expected. They cannot seem to fix it.

Such a shame. I thought they were better than that. The battery life on mine is 40% less than my iP4.

That's too bad, I had to relegate my iP4S to a secondary device since I cannot rely on it. Thankfully the hi capacity thin battery in my Skyrocket gives me two days. Android just keeps getting better and better.

ICS is designed to be a long term release, so it will mark the end of fragmentation. Android has really got it's program together.

I was a iPhone 4 owner. I was going to wait for the next gen and then upgrade. I decided to put my 4 on Craigslist. Got a good price for it and went ahead and upgraded to the 4S. The MAJOR improvements to the antenna alone was worth the upgrade for me. Where I sit in my office the 4 would barely get a signal (AT&T). Now with the 4S, I have signal and have a conversation without the call dropping.

You know that most of them aren't ACTUALLY running in the background, right? The way iOS multitasking works (as of iOS 4) is that when you close out of an app it can do one of a few things, based on it's needs.

It can:
  1. Stop everything and close entirely.
  2. Save the current state and then hold in that suspended state (which most apps do)
  3. Wrap up what it's doing and then do either 1 or 2. (Such as uploading a file)
  4. Actually run in the background (mostly for things like media streaming)

The reason your friend can't do that on Android is because his phone is actually backgrounding apps, rather than holding them in a suspended state.
