I believe HDCP to has compel Apple to update the ACD's sooner. When they offer a blu-ray optical drive, the displays will need to be HDCP compliant.

well for me though HDCP isnt important so I just went ahead with the 30". :D I have a feeling the cinema displays wont get an update until 2 more years anyway and by then I can sell this 30" and opt for the newer displays.

I honestly only care about the led + maybe H-IPS displays, but for me though I could care less about HDCP as I dont work with bluray contents for work and have a even better hdtv at 52" bravia xbr4 with a full surround hifi system with a ps3 for a real true experience in viewing bluray movies. ;)

One thing I DO want is an optical bluray burner for burning massive amount of data onto 1 bluray discs but other than that I'd never play a bluray movie on my mac pro, just like I never did with dvd's or hddvd's and especially since x264/h264/mkv/wmv/ogg/avi movies are available on the *ews******(not suppose to say) to watch real quick on my current mac pros with the 2560x1650 and 1920x1200 anyway. But like I said I would love to be able to burn all those formats onto 1 single bluray disc for storage other than my 1tb drives.

One thing that bothers me with the new 30" ACD that I bought is that the right side seems to be a bit brighter and it is at times does bother me... but I guess I'm scared if I exchange the monitor I'm going to get one with dead/stuck pixel (which is worse) + dancing pixel problem. Not to mention this thing is heavy to carry.

The brightness difference isnt night and day but sometimes such as grey would look a tiny bit darker on the left side as to the right and white as well... but if I'm playing WOW in full screen or COD4 the brightness looks even and perfect. The way to describe is not really brightness differences but the left side seems to have a cooler (bluish push) and the right side seems to have a warmer (slight yellowish push).

Because most demand quality...

So, I was the fool that actually bought an Apple Cinema Display. Here are my hard lessons: too expensive , color display is comprable to a Dell or HP, and it is a brick after 4 years. This is the first time that a monitor has given out on me after a measly 4 years. It is all about merchandising, and I was the fool that fell for it... In fact, given my vocation -- I really knew better but was hoping that Apple was going to actually start shipping quality products. I guess after the original PowerBook facts, I didnt want to face reality. Well, lesson finally learnt.

So vote with your money and demand quality. I should probably mention that after paying premium for Apple Care, Apple Service is a joke as well.

I havent had a problem with my Dell products yet, but I certainly hope that their customer service is better.

Dell displays suck... my Dad's company ordered a 24" Dell Ultrasharp and a 23" ACD (older tech btw). The Dell has uneven backlighting, so they returned it. The 23" ACD just had a very little scratch on the bezel (this was a refurbed model vs the brand newness of the Dell). Second 24" Dell had dead pixels (like a whole patch size of finger tip). The third 24" Dell made a buzzing sound and had a couple dead pixels. Add in about 5 days worth of complaining to Dell and their so-called customer support, it makes disaster. They returned the Dell, and got another 23" ACD.

Oh, and my Dad, being fair, tested both displays on the same octo core Mac Pro using the same color profile, calibrated and otherwise.

To each his own. I returned my Dell 30" for a 24" ACD and aside from the pixel count it's in a whole different league.

I've found the dell screens I've used to be great - same with any product, check the revision (and model obviously) and know what you're getting. Their cs has been infinitely better than apples from my experience.
