Why are Slim Jims so hard to open?

Even the manufacturer is trying to tell you something......
It's like a waiver of liability for your actions.
If you are smart enough to get into the package, you're smart enough to read the ingredients.
It's because the packaging was designed by Randy "Macho Man" Savage, and you have to be as strong as he was to open it.

We need to organize a funeral or something! Such a pillar of our community, gone... it's going to carve a hole deep in everyone's heart.
I'm not familiar with Slim Jims, the only thing I know about them is that they used to be endorsed by the Ultimate Warrior and it strikes me that he was a rather strong chap. Maybe that's why he was chosen to advertise them, because you have to be really strong to open them properly.

You know Slim Jims are a plot by conservative business to do away with the aging populace. I grew up loving Slim Jims, but I think they have gone down hill in the last 30 years. We were traveling this week and I purchased one and it reminded me of beef flavored lard paste... Btw, it was an extra long version and it opened down the side, very easily.

Btw, it was an extra long version and it opened down the side, very easily. I love slim jims but yeah, they're horrible for you... and no, I don't want to know what is in them. On the other hand I never have problem opening one. I tear it down from the serrated edge on top or you can also peel away the clear plastic from the colored front plastic. Both ways work. I usually peel it 75% of the way down right away. The bottom piece comes out pretty easily. Only if you have two much of it still in wrapping and try to pull it out will it get "stuck".
I'm on a SlimJim diet. After some practise, I get it right first time, 90% of the time. But when the edge of the plastic tears away from the main body to the edge and detaches.. well that just sucks. But once you get it started don't stop until the juicy beef stick is only dangling from the wrapper by a little bit. Go all the way with it..

In addition most of us are eating out and portions at restaurants are much to large. It's not unusual for me and the wife to share an entree.

If you were strong of body then opening them would be easy. If you were strong of mind then your intellect would tell you to use a sharp instrument to help. Sorry friend, with what you have shared it would appear that your case is hopeless.
