I'm not here to toot my own horn, but I know that I'm one of the oldest active members of the board. My member number is 540 and I registered almost 6 years ago...

But it is sad to see those people go. They've been dropping out here and there over the past few years. Hopefully the rest of us can step up to the plate. I usually only get a chance to post frequently during the summer months. I know a few of the older members have moved on to different careers, or had other life events that have affected their time on MR. Again, as Applespider said, I hope all is well with them.

Sweet. I really respect people that have been here for a long time.

Looking at blogs around the internet, jefhatfield/jhatfield is a fake personality and he is actually a she.

I think some people found out that jefhatfield or jhatfield was/is actually Juliana Hatfield, a minimally famous rock star from the 1990s. Some of the posts are hers and I think some belong to her friends/family.

Also, look at the avatar from jefhatfield's posts. It's her 1962 Gibson SG-Les Paul with the "small" plastic pickguard, just like the one on Juliana Hatfield's website. Also, way back in jefhatfield's posts, King Cobra and iGav, a couple of oldtime members, seem to know that jef is Juliana Hatfield but they are not telling.

Just a theory to put out there.

Heh, its an interesting theory but I doubt it. I've been around when jef was more active and watched this particular one come and go, I'm not sure how much weight it holds. Having family and other people post under the same account seems a bit far-fetched to me although I'm sure it happens among the many members here. Keeping it up for 6 years? jef's been remarkably consistent for all that time.

Great theory. I love stuff like this. Let's investigate the macrumors cover up. Haha. What if there really is one? :D

Coincidentally, a couple of weeks ago was the 6th anniversary for jefhatfield, whoever he/she is. Perhaps there was a decision to make a clean break after a long run. While the last post was on 7/4, I don't know when his actual last "online" time was.

And in the end, I suppose it doesn't matter who he "really" was - he had a positive impact on the site and on a number of members here, and that's what counts. It's too bad he's moved on, but if that's what he decided was in his best interests, I wish him luck.

Or her.

That is really touching and heartfelt. Really, that's how I think most of us feel toward the MacRumors community. Anyone that's here, participates (especially over that duration) is an asset to the community as a whole.

just wondering, how do you figure out what member number you are? :D

This thread (sadly) brings back really bad SpyCrack memory of the whole 'zmai' scandal.

:(

For the record, jefhatfield requested that the account be closed.

When I do my periodic post count studies, it's always kinda sad to see somebody's posting curve suddently drop off. :(

jefhatfield's left??? :( so that's what the Guest thing means then??? :( I guess that's the easy way out, so does that mean that his profile won't say if she's been sneaking around??? maybe he's just decided to let MR take a backseat in his life for awhile??? :(

Hopefully he just had a bad day... :( it'd be a shame if she's quit permanently. :(

I dunno. I think it'll be time soon for a new old-skool. ;)

wow, that's very interesting

but we are really no closer, from info from this site, to knowing who this hatfield person really is

i just went back to the juliana hatfield site and coincidentally, the photo of her guitar, which is the same as jefhatfield's avatar, came off the site very recently

Wow, it's as advanced as studying a famliy tree.:p
michealrjohnson is member nr. 540, and arn is nr. 1. I think those are the two oldest members, despite MacRumors and MacBytes, but I believe they're administrated by arn...

That doesn't seem to work for me...

When you hover over your name, look in the status bar at the bottom of the window. It appears there.

Wow!

I sure didn't expect that. There used to be a bunch of folks who registered before me.

I feel sad and alone... :( ;)

Doing my own search, I just found the following list of members:
barefeats
blakespot
curmi
Jim
kainjow
lgivens
macmvn
mdntcallr
mlucas17
otlguy
outZider
SalsaShark
tobyc
Zaren
These folks registered before me (08-09-2000) and have posted on or since 01-01-05. Most of them, however, are newbies except a few notable differences. Blakespot and kainjow , who both have 'tars (and have been active in 2006, also). (These are some of the folks I was talking about remembering)

So it turns out I'm not the oldest active member... whew! that's a lot of responsibility...

FFS! arn is still active!:p

Wow....I'm # 15,082. I feel so middle-aged :) Doesn't seem like I've been a member all that long though. I guess time flies when you're moving from one Apple product to the next :)

Member MacRumors is the name used when arn or any other MacRumors "staff member" posts a Page 1 or Page 2 rumor or news story. So for a given thread, MacRumors might be arn, me, Mudbug, longofest, etc.

Similarly, MacBytes is the name used when a MacBytes item is posted.

Aaah, I c. BTW, if a newbie/member/regular contributes to the site, will he/she be given avatar status right away, or will it still require the member to reach 500 posts? I know longofest had a 'tar before 500 posts, but that was because he was a mod...
