Aaah, I c. BTW, if a newbie/member/regular contributes to the site, will he/she be given avatar status right away, or will it still require the member to reach 500 posts?
Yep, they'd need 500 posts even if they're a Demi or Contributor – unless they've earned a 'tar by winning one of the Avatar contests that are held every so often.

Oh dear. I've just checked and seen that the members who joined either side of me have 18 and 37 posts respectively. Something tells me I'm spending too much time on here :(

Bizarre – I just had a look at that myself, and the members who joined either side of me both have 18 and 37 posts as well.

It's conspiracytheorytastic.:p
They must be boosting the member numbers. Only 1 in every 3 accounts is real

Either that or you're really me or vice versa. Or maybe we're actually each other

Or the people who registered either side of us are the same people, or something. My head's hurting just thinking about it...

Otherwise, you're right – we probably are the same person and I ought to kit my Jaffatar™ out in a little County strip.

Now you're talking. Did you hear we submitted the squad numbers for this year to the FA and allocated number 12 to The Blue and White Army?

How cool is that? Now every fan gets to put number 12 on the back of their shirt and be part of the squad :)

Yeah, I saw that. A few teams do it and I must admit I'm torn between it being a nice gesture to the fans (you being the twelfth man and all that) or it being a little cringeworthy.

I'm definitely in the nice gesture camp. I've been at away games where 600 County fans have outsung 10000 home supporters and really made a difference to the result. Jim Gannon always makes a point of thanking the Blue and White Army too :)

What the heck are you two talking about?

PS: I looked at the members that registered on either side of me (#539, #541) and both have zero posts!

My registration neighbors each have 1 post. But of course the one who registered right after me (later the same day) hasn't been a member as long as I have and therefore wouldn't be expected to have as many posts as I do.

People don't just suddenly disappear off the forums. What was the reason they just left?

lol... Right.

I wonder, are there any two members with high post counts who registered immediately preceding or following one another?

The highest "neighbors" I found were solvs with 4,162 posts and bouzouku with 10,235 posts.

Man, I can't believe there's so much history in one site...:D

In 10 years, I'm gonna be Old Skool...

LLLLOOOOOLLLLLL!:D :p

When did MR actually start. I mean, from the entire beginning. I know vBulletin was introduced around 2001, but before that...

MacRumors began February 24, 2000. I think the vBulletin version started April 9, 2001.

Man, that's 15 days after my birthday...:D

Can you see the profiles, posts and other stuff from pre vB. And yes, vB came at April 9th 2001, the day arn "joined".:p

Arn may have imported previously defined users (including himself) when the software was installed. That's one possible explanation for how user #9 (co-founder blakespot) could have joined before user #1 (arn).

What was it like in the early days of MR? How long did it take before MR reached 'critical mass'?

I would assume critical mass started about January 2002 around the time of the new iMac.

I made a note to myself to answer your question when I had time. Today's the day!

I declare the winners to be solvs (member 5514) and bousozoku (member 5515). solvs was once projected to be #46 on the Top 50, and in fact made it to #51. bousozoku is currently #10 among active posters.

There are 4 pairs of highly posted members who registered with only one intervening member:
arn (member 1) and Macrumors (member 3) have both been in the Top 10, although Macrumors isn't a real member.

jelloshotsrule (member 3996) was in the Top 10 while iJon (member 3998) reached #13.

Hemingray (member 3485) and G4scott (member 3487) have both been in the Top 50.

revenuee (member 21385) reached the Top 50 and MongoTheGeek (member 21387) the Top 100.

There are 3 pairs who are 3 member numbers apart:
cr2sh (member 5176) and Royal Pineapple (member 5179)

Chaszmyr (member 11601) and MacBandit (member 11604)

Former member MacAztec (member 2624) and sparkleytone (member 2627)

The reverse prize goes to Applespider (member 28180) and Mitthrawnuruodo (member 30694), who have no high posters between them, leaving a member number difference of 2,514, even though they joined only 50 days apart!
