Wow! Didn't even know that was an option (AA's)...think the first of those Motorola flips that I had was a Ni-Cad. The brick that baked the whole side of your face while you used it that came previously was too. :) Good ol' analog. :D

Edit: Wait....I think the first BlackBerry I had that was Mobitex used a AA battery...and lasted about a month from a single battery!!! :)

We had two of those phones (still do!) and we had big, fat high-capacity NiMH (I think they were NiMH, not NiCd), the slim battery (which was genuinely slim, the phone was actually shirt-pocketable with that battery) and one of these 6xAA cases for emergencies. That was one of the three greatest phones I've owned in 30 years of cellphone ownership.

I’m sure they could if people actually wanted that.

Come on be real, people in the market for the Samsung G5 will not generally be the same in the market for a rolls Royce either ;) it’s good that there are options available for those who truly think they need a replaceable battery.

I rather have it fully integrated, and for those very rare situations that I’m longer than two days without being able to use a charger I’ll gladly use an external battery pack that is multi functional for my watch, speaker, phone etc.

With modern day technology there is simply no need for switching off your phone and swapping batteries. Heck here in Perth even park benches have usb charging ports in them. As does my seat in the aeroplane. Or my rental car.

It’s a solution where back in the day there wasn’t that convenience. It simply is no longer required in the western world.

Nobody thought to ask for user-replaceable battery phone in the last 3 years until this "Batterygate" came to light...

Just simple cause and effect.

I just what to be able to know the real health of my battery, and I want to have the decision as to when I choose to replace the battery in a device which I own, especially as I am paying an inflated price for the battery.

I don't know a thing about Android so I have no idea what their hardware is like.

I am happy about the larger battery in the iPhone X because I am getting outrageously good battery life, when I used to get home after a full workday with 30% left I now average 81%.

The iPhone 8 and X have a replaceable battery; it just requires a screwdriver or a visit to a local mall kiosk. If you are referring to a swappable battery, no one needs that as iPhone 8 and X have all day battery life or more.

Like I said in the other thread, enjoy your great battery life while it lasts. I used to marvel about the battery life on my iPhone 6s.

If you call 8 and X's battery replaceable then anything in the tech world is replaceable.

I can’t believe so many people defend these obvious cash grab tactics. Can you imagine if auto manufacturers started to make cars without user replaceable batteries? They actually try making simple repairs more and more difficult to do yourself but there is a healthy 3rd party repair community of mechanics to keep that from happening completely. I have no doubt that all the car manufacturers would make everything impossible to repair yourself if they knew they could get away with it.

Truth is you can have premium built phones with all the current options and have replaceable batteries but why would the manufacturers do that when they know that would decrease their year over year sales? There is no incentive for them to do that as long as all the big, premium phone producing players stick to their guns and don’t offer it.

As far as phones like the V20, why did I not buy it even though it had a user replaceable battery? Because the phone sucked. Would I have bought a Note 7 with a user replaceable battery if I had that option even if it was 2 mm thicker? Definitely. Would I have bought an iPhone 7 Plus with a user replaceable battery if I had the option even if it was 2 mm thicker? Definitely. Make a premium phone with a user replaceable battery and it will sell........but people who buy it won’t need to buy another when they can simply replace the battery. Gee, why would a manufacturer do that to themselves?

At the iPhone hacks section.

Pretty much.
Its kinda like many typical domestic violence cases where the guy beats up the girl but when it comes to him getting arrested when the cops show up she has a change of heart and blames herself for the violence.
Its my fault, I made him upset. I did it to myself dont put him in jail. I love him :D

Cash grab or not they should be able to make money. I personally don’t want an user replaceable battery in iPhone with an back of the phone that can be removed.

I swear to god all of this complaining about EVERYTHING Apple does is insane.

How dare they not give the phone away for free! How dare a company who is for profit as opposed to not for profit care to make money?

Why don’t you give up your paycheck since greed seems to be an issue and seem how fare?

I’m sorry the economy isn’t that bad because folks buy porn, hipster coffee multiple times a day, waste money on streaming services they don’t use because too lazy to cancel it but yet Apple should worry about folks who have psychological issues with 999.00. How is that short coming there problem? It’s not! Don’t buy it then.

This thread is about batteries and yeah I took it off the rail but my god iPhone X has unleashed something in folks and guess what?

Apple will never release a device that has a user replaceable battery with an external battery door before the pedantic people use the lemme fix that for you like this is reddit. You can see the receipts from Jonny Ive about the quest to make things thinner.

So keep that candle lit in the window. It ain’t gonna happen.

I used to love Mac Rumors but there is too much drama on here lately and it’s ruining the awesomeness that used to be here.

I’m about done with this ish for good.

I agree they should make money......and they do but this thread isn’t about Apple or Samsung, it’s about batteries and cell phone manufacturers in general.

Are you saying you personally would not want a user replaceable battery in an iPhone even if it was indistinguishable from an iPhone with a sealed battery? Because that’s the point, it is possible to do this but it is not something any manufacturer really wants to pursue. Not as long as they have the purchasing public convinced these $1000 devices are disposable.

Heh, yes I can. I have an electric car. Better start getting used to it because it's where the future is headed.

I want thinner devices with no modular components so no I don’t care for either.

Neither does Apple which is why they will never make a phone with a replaceable battery as it goes against them design process they have and that makes me happy.

Also I get a new phone every year so I never deal with bad battery life.
