I all due respect, you don't represent us professionals so please stop talking on our behalf

"Us professionals?"

Pretty funny. I have a shoot this Wednesday and will be in meetings with casting directors on Friday. I'll be using my machines for both.

Pray-tell, what is it that you do that the new tMBP can't handle and in what "professional" field?

The above question easily partitions the professionals from the gamers and RARELY gets an answer. Here's your chance to be only the 3rd person to answer it.

[doublepost=1483897564][/doublepost]Why does ANYONE care if Apple is making money off adapters? Don't any of you work for a living? I charge 25.00 per processed photo when I shoot catalogue and that's a minimum. I don't throw anything in. That's, on average, 25.00 for every 7 minutes of work. Unless I make an error that costs a client time, there is NEVER any adjustment and no expectation of such.

The mentality around here is hilarious. I guess these last few generations feel truly entitled and don't even realize it.

Apple designs and builds. You buy or don't buy. That's it folks. You're OWED nothing by Apple beyond what they promised within the contract of the sale. Don't like it? Buy a toaster.

Why don't you folks call up your electric company and ask them to throw in some free electric!

R.
[doublepost=1483897938][/doublepost]That kind of attitude is what sets a professional and non-professional apart. I've never seen business where the machines weren't about 3 to 4 years old on average.>>>

4 year old computers in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY? In film/photography?

LOL!

No way, no how. I work with some large PP houses and some boutique outfits. They don't keep anything for 4 years except maybe the lamps and chairs.

The things people say here are just total amateur hour.

Mate, you are a photographer ..... you don't even need the new MacBook Pro. You just want to show off .

I respect a lot of photographers on this site, but frankly you are so arrogant , and if it meets your professional needs, it meets all professional needs lol. Enough of this silly stereotyping , especially telling us 16GB ram so plenty.

Have a good weekend

What company is this you are talking about ?

Funny. I will clarify what I mean by "nickel and diming". Maybe you all have different definitions of this fairly common American euphemism. There are flea market vendors that will sell you the seat they are sitting on or try to sell you a kleenex to blow your nose for that last dollar regardless of any brand value. If you feel Apple behaves this way, I would love to hear examples of companies that don't (not just computer companies). I need to give them my business. Glib comments like this or "$$$$" don't really help my understanding or make a case. These are internet soundbites, and I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to a room full of children.

Once again...let's go through this point by point.

1) Which pro photographer here has stated that the tMBP in any configuration can't handle pro photography? The 8 MB 13" tMBP can handle RAW files in LR and PS simultaneously, if that's what you need.

2) I'm also a working screenwriter and I work with production companies. Photography is a remnant of my previous career and I now only carry two clients as a favor to them.

3) My arrogance is actually EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE. I've backed up what I claimed with evidences, pics and so on. You, and the minority of detractors here, have given virtually NO INFO at all.

4) More than a few people here have been caught lying about owning the tMBP and/or using it. Amazingly, some of those people just kept right on chugging. I won't mention any names, but his initials are....

5) No one "needs" the new MBP, unless they have a really old machine. But I do a huge amount of writing and the new keyboard is saving me time. The brighter screen is also a help. So for a minuscule investment I have a better work experience. Who are you exactly to debate what I "need?"

And as I said, you were NEVER going to explain how the new tMBP effects your workflow (I just did). You'd get a lot less arrogance if you'd back up what you say/claim.

If people here groan on and on without backing up what they say, they will get called on it. Pretty simple. A "real" member here outlined his needs for longer 4K editing/rendering and additional tasks that would challenge ANY laptop and certainly the tMBP. His views are VALID and deserve respect. Yours are not and do not.

I have him blocked so I can only see what he writes when someone quotes him but you are SPOT ON! I have serious doubts as to if 90% of what he says he does and has is even true but I'll digress...

He claims he is this and that and he claims has a lot of things but read his posts and match them up against facts and you quickly see the claims are most likely bogus..

I don't think I've ever seen anyone try so hard to impress others.. That's usually a tell tale sign that something is amiss... Also, those who so frequently toss out that others are lying, are usually the ones doing so and just trying to mask it...

I dunno, it's the internet.. Very easy to post whatever you want and make all kinds of wild claims from the basement of ones parents house.. LOL

My sister is a pro photographer in NYC and she will not buy anything with less than 32GB of RAM..

Indeed you are..or at least people who haven't a very mature view of business.

This is an absurd discussion and you're wasting your time. Fiscal station is not an issue here, but irrational expectations and unsubstantiated requirements are.

The tMBP is an incredible achievement. Apple added so much in the way of improvements to an already highly capable machine. The only thing they probably should have kept was an SD slot, but beyond that...this is a better performing machine to such an extent that the detractors have been reduced to begging Apple to mail them extension cords and 5 dollar USB adapters.

Stunning stuff.

I thought I gave you your victory already. Didn't want to continue with our circular back and forth. I am attacking glib, immature, unsubstantiated statements like "$$$$" and "what company are we talking about" that you "defend so staunchly" for some reason. These one liners are never backed up and are just piling on. Keep defending these and I'll keep calling them out as immature.

That's funny. We are on the same side of this, but you think they should have kept a SD slot, and I think they should have kept a usb-a. Yet both of us aren't severely hampered either way and just deal with a minor inconvenience. We think pros greatly outweigh the cons and just move forward. #Adultbehavior, #notentitled

So...here we have another story. His sister is a pro who needs 16 MB, but could it be that she was TOLD that?

As always I BACK UP WHAT I CLAIM. Please pardon the mess! We just moved to LA from NY!

BU3.jpg

So what's going on with the terrible base 8 GB 13" tMBP here?

Well...on the 4k@60 display (I have two, but office is not ready yet) we have Zenfolio with RAW files available and some downloaded into PS Elements. 4 RAW files are open in PS. On the tMBP itself is Lightroom with some party portraits I'm working on. You'll note that iTunes is open and a superdrive is playing through a set of AKG headphones.

No issues at all and these particular files are from the Nikon D810 and D800.

Back up what you SAY!!! Calling me names, like "arrogant" is not going to prove anything, except that I know from experience and others appear to have some sort of agenda.

And now I will enjoy my Touchbar in this fashion....

Exactly right. I don't need the SD slot, but once in a while it was handy as part of the machine. Doesn't effect me at all. But I think a SD slot that let the card go in FLUSH with the edge would have been nice, allowing for extra portable storage with no weight/form factor penalty. Spec hunters would have loved it.

R.
[doublepost=1483905591][/doublepost]Oh..he wrote his sister won't use less than 32 GB????

That rules out the most used laptop in all of pro photography, folks! They must all be amateurs with Barbi cameras.

Haha, burn. You are right about @CaptRB. He's arrogant and abrasive and he drives a rubbish American car, but he is very specific about how he uses his MBP and gives endless examples and backup of how and why it works.

I respect his opinions since its coming from heavy lifting experience and his livelihood depends on a working computer. I can't brush him off because he is SO specific on how it works for him in a field that is relatively demanding on computing resources. MR frankly needs more members like this because they have knowledge to pass to others. I always appreciate thorough and accurate (as far as I can tell) posts as opposed to the other kind. Even people I don't agree with I value their knowledge. And there are many.

He can come across as a d1ck and he might report me for saying so. But I personally appreciate him as a member. YMMV! Haha.

Thank you, sir. I usually don't worry about how I come across. People are either FULL OF IT or they're for real. There's no reason for people to be cagey and dismissive about how they use their computers. And if they are, then it's clear that they are all BS.

Quite literally there are just a few "regulars" who seem to enjoy bashing & trashing the tMBP daily. They've got their work cut out for them since they can't back up a thing and make silly statements. One fellow actually goes on about how Apple NAMES these machines! LOL!

Crazy world, eh?

Now...let's get serious. Did you just call the SRT Charger Hellcat "rubbish?" You do know that the Charger Hellcat in stock form managed 1:32 on the Contidrom track. It beat the M4, 911 Turbo S and came in 9th in a field of 35 cars. It was beat by two seat supercars and barely! Crushes my old M5. I test drove the Aston Martin DB11 last week and the interior was awful for ergonomics. Beautiful car though. Right now the SRT Hellcat has the highest reliability for its HP rating of any car currently in production. I desperately wanted a Lambo Huracan, but at 6"3 I just don't fit. Rubbish? It eats most Euro metal for breakfast while matching the M5 handling numbers.

Yes...I know it's a silly childish car! Perfect for me!

It's the internet and not everything someone posts is true.. I've never and I mean never met a true professional at anything that constantly puts down others in their respective field.

My take is if the attitude displayed here is a reality then nobody would work with the guy.. It's all smoke and mirrors...

I'd love to see some of his real work... But let me guess, it will never be posted! Why? Oh cuz it's the internet... If legit, links should be posted to his published work..... What we will get is vague photos offered as proof that could be obtained from anywhere........

And there you go. A perfect example of what I was talking about.

I've stated EXACTLY what I do, the software I use and camera and file types. I've posted PHOTOS of it as well. How this poster cannot be embarrassed by making such a comment is a pure wonder.

What can be done about members like this? They operate within the guidelines, so not much. It's a real shame.

I use it as a developer machine , running multiple instances of visual studio, SQL sever,
Multiple VMs and an assortment of support apps. This is for web development , I also encode videos for web and mobile . Yes a professional developer. And I've spent 7 years working with the Top Gear during it peak , so very aware of the workflow of photographers and editors.

Does it really matter ? I'm not here to force my workflow on others. So let's just say my hardware requirements are in excess of yours , so please feel free to say as a professionl
Photographer my opinion is x, but do not represent us professionals as a whole.

Quite simple.

Heck your are passionate , I'll give you that and that's a good trait, yes that yank is crap :p

I think it matters a lot and I appreciate you outlining your usage. If I say a car is slow, what's the context? Slow compared to other family sedans or slow because I plan to do track events?

The new Mac is a LOT of machine for a LOT of people. So if you're critical of it, at least give the context so the criticism has meaning.

And as a British car lover (1973 MGB was a favorite I miss enough to be hunting for another), and a former owner of a lot of European stuff, let me say this:

The car with the most track records (Here and in Europe) is the Dodge SRT Viper ACR. The worlds fastest sedan is the SRT Charger Hellcat. There is no "Yank" anymore. FCA is SRT and they also own the Fiat, Alpha Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati etc. The best handling full sized sedan on the planet is now the Caddy CTS-V. The Nissan GT-R has been the car to beat for 8 years and the 2018 version will likely murder everything else. Euro cars have a LOT of catching up to do!

My M5 was the same as a windows PC, always having problems, needing parts. The Hellcat has not had a single issue after 16K miles. Wish I could say that for the Euro cars I owned.
Next car will likely be the new GT-R in 2018, unless the Euro cars catch up.

OK dude! I just said it to get a rise out of you. I feel the same way about cars that I do about these computers. I don't care what anyone else gets. We all have different needs and wants. I don't judge American cars (or PC's). I appreciate them for what they are, and they HAVE come a long way. Come to think of it, those car forums are a lot like this one ironically, spec pissing matches and fanboy/hater arguments. And I feel the same way, I don't care what anyone buys with THEIR money. Car guys appreciate all cars, not just the one they own. Doesn't Ben Affleck drive a Hellcat? JK, please don't respond!

I have said several times over that I like my 2016 MacBook AirPro..... :D

And after his recent spat of insults against others, I added him to my ignore list as well.. I don't come here to read insults tossed at others just because they have a different opinion, want or need..

As with most threads where someone has anything negative to say about the new machines, it's quickly and completely derailed by same few over and over and over again... I can't see most of the posts here in this thread because I have that user on ignore but let me guess.. The derailing includes talk of cars and photography along with a steady dose of insults? All of which have nothing to do with the topic and all of which is why most of the threads he posts in get locked and closed down..

Oh well..

I agree 100%. I appreciate most cars and I'm no snob, except to tease people. My father thinks anyone who buys and expensive car is a dope and I see his point/

A lot of celebrities bought Hellcats, but the Chargers are very rare.

I only get mad at cars I don't fit in! The Alpha 4c was a car I wanted, but it was designed for dwarfs. When I went to the Lambo dealer, even he admitted that he'd sell twice as many cars if they'd build them for people who were 6 to 6.5".

If a computer, car or can-opener works for you, then be happy!

Even if any it is true..Who says any of this stuff out loud, let alone in writing? I'd be embarrassed I memorialized such mindless drivel that contributes nothing to nothing quite honestly-especially this forum.

From what I've witnessed the entire thing is a sad sad state of affairs really.

I guess it didn't bother me all that much. Like many of you, I have owned a lot of Apple laptops and I have about eight of those extension cables in a drawer. I never really use it anyway--guess I am usually always close enough to a wall outlet. As to the C-A adapter... They aren't that expensive. But, I do see everyone's point. They probably should have included them.
