I don't really understand why there is a need to carry a separate iPod when you have an iPhone. The iPhone IS an iPod!!!:eek:
I am going to answer you, but Jake already gave part of my answer. :)

...there have been so many times when I'm walking down the sidewalk or on the bus and want to listen to a particular song...
And that's why I carry both. I have my top-rated and exercise music playlists on the iPhone, along with vodcasts, but over the years I've grown used to having all of my music with me. Why stop now?

Plus, I'm a woman, so I'm usually not limited to what I can carry in my pockets. ;) Throwing the iPod into the pocketbook/laptop bag/overnight bag I'm already going to carry is no big deal.

My demand for space is only likely to increase with time - more apps, music, video etc etc, wanted to get as much space as possible.

My last iPhone was 8GB. If I was gonna get a new one might as well upgrade to a 16GB. And there is no telling how big those third party apps might get or how many I will end up installing.

yeah I agree that's what I did. When some of this GPS apps come out I think that's going to take quite a bit of space. Such as the Tom Tom one

I want TomTom with full european mapping (if it comes out). I currently have an 8gb 2g which is already pretty much full so am waiting to get my hands on a 16gb as the TomTom app is going to take a couple of gb minimum.

Went for the 16GB for resell value aswell, hopefully if theres a better iphone out next year, will be able to upgrade to it and sell my current 16GB.

But thinking that, most first iphone buyers have to wait untill oct? or were they able to upgrade early?

Before the WWDC keynote, I was expecting the new phone to be the same price as the old one, so ws planning on spending $400 on a new 8GB. Since the prices were so much lower, I figured why not get the 16 as I still have spent $100 less than I was originally planning. But yeah, with my playlist management, I'm only using about 3-4GB on it right now. Time to put some video on it.

Yeah I expected the new iPhone to be $400, but when I found out the 16GB model was only $300 I knew I was gonna get that one. Also, my original iPhone is 4GB so it would be nice to quadroople the storage so I have space for apps and what not.

I got the 16gb iphone, because it came into two great colors. The colors are so great that people decided to gender-ize them. :)

I'm considering switching to the 8GB from my 16GB to recoup $100, as I honestly don't need the extra space after playing around with the phone for awhile. What made you decide to get the 16GB over the 8GB?

Oh, and before anyone says anything about the restocking fee:

No restocking fee will be assessed on iPhones returned within the 14-day return period.

I didn't get the 16gb because my iTunes libery is on 40 gb so I'd have to choose which songs should go on my iPhone and since they can't all be on the iPhone I might as well just choose the 8gb 'cause I still have to select which songs I wanna on my iPhone whether I took the 8 or 16gb.. So I'm happy with my 8gb iPhone and 80 gb iPod Classic :D

It's like the 4 gig getting discontinued. Nobody wants it and its value is damn low. The 8 gigs resale value will probly be more than 100$ less than the 16 gig when the 32 gig comes out.

If you're just planning to keep it forever though, one good reason is turn by turn GPS: if a company makes this, and the file is several gigs large to fit all the maps in North America or something, on an 8 gig you'll only have 5 or 6 gigs free whereas on a 16 gig you'll still have tons of space for songs and movies.

But with the 16GB... you can select MORE of your music.

That's pretty much why I got the 16GB. Maybe I'm not filling it right now, but I don't want to be stuck with an 8GB 6 months down the road and thinking "damn, I wish I had gotten the 16." Besides, I think this will probably allow me to skip the 32GB when it comes out, and wait till next year when the 64GB will probably come out. :)

Or hopefully.. HOPEFULLY... Apple will get the hint and figure out that MAYBE including a mini/micro/SD slot would really be nice. It would be nice to be able to toss one of these in.

I got 16GB so I could fit more than a couple movies + my music on it. I maxed out the 16GB the first day I got it. If it had 32GB, that'd be perfect because then I could fit ALL my music on it and some movies for good measure.

I went 16GB;

1. Because I could ...

2. To avoid that insane feeling of regret I would have felt when the 32GB model comes out next year and I was stuck with 8GB.
I would have been more inclined to upgrade to 32GB, if I was using 8GB, than 16GB.

I can live being outdated by a model which has twice the storage capacity, but a model with 1 + 1/2X more storage capacity? - no thanks.

Simple really. :)

If there was a 32GB version, I would have that right now. I use my iPhone as an iPod a lot. I currently have 8-10 movies on it (and yes, I do watch them). I'd love to be able to load it with even more movies, but I can't. 16GB is fine, though. I can swap them out.

Well my 16GB iPhone has replaced my 15GB (3rd Gen) iPod. It seemed like a pretty good upgrade considering that I went from a monochrome screen, to a colour screen that can browse the internet, make phone calls, take pictures and has the same storage capacity in a slimmer form factor. :D

I had the first gen 8gb iPhone which was filled with music and a video or two. With 3rd party apps coming out, I felt the $100 was worth it in order to keep everything I want on it.

Yes, I can see that point. But as a man I don't have the luxury of being able to carry an iPod and a phone in my pockets!! :p And I just love the way the music fades out when a call comes in. It also means I can keep my phone in my pocket while walking to the tube and calling my girlfriend (even if I look a little daft talking into my headphones). :D:cool:

I've got a 9GB smart playlist prioritised towards highest rated and certain artists (about half of my music) and it contains most of what I want. I've then got 3GB of photos and some room for more stuff.

I got the 16GB (actual capacity is 14.64) to hold 11GB of music, 2 movies, and as many apps as I want. And so I could get the white iPhone :D

Because I wanted white. And more storage space is never, ever a bad thing.

If you're that hard-up over $100, maybe you should consider a PAYG flip-style phone instead of a killer yet not inexpensive iPhone.
