I needed a new computer and got sick of Windows. My wife had Vista for just over a year and had nothing but problems. After seeing all the problems she was having I really didn't want that, so I had money saved up so I got a Mac. My wife saw how smooth everything was going with my Whitebook and wasn't too happy. The new Macbooks we're coming out and I had mine for about 2-3 months and I wanted the Aluminum one. So I jokingly said to my wife "How about I get the new Aluminum Macbook and you can have my whitebook" and she said "OK!" (I wasn't expecting that at all).
So I looked at the Aluminum for a few days and my wife yelled at me to just buy it already so she can have my whitebook. We both been happy ever since.

You lucky bastard... My girlfriend would love a new macbook... her iMac is made out of plastic

I switched because using windows makes me feel like I am in 1995 again. As much as I loved the 90s I figured windows would have evolved a little bit since then. If I have to use my gf's dell I feel like I am using a toy. Although if I ever feel like going back in time all I have to do is open up that baby and I'm back in the 90s for as long as I want.

If I was going to have a next to impossible system to upgrade I might as well make it a laptop.

Then again on the Macbook it isn't that hard to upgrade the hard drive and RAM at least.

lol great post

Now does she envy the back lit keyboard? and the overall sleekness of the alu macbook?

No Registry!

That's what always got me on the PCs, every couple of years or so the machine would just crap out. No more of that, it was my biggest reason for switching.

I got a 2.4 MB because I didn't need the size and extra video power of the 2.4 MBP. And portability, I needed that.

My family has a PC that is a couple years old and my dad has a hp notebook and i watched in 2 years them going from awesome machines to a super slow piece of junk. The macbook lifespan is way longer than a PC so its was a good investment for college and i wanted something that couldnt get a virus and something that wouldnt crash in the middle of typing a 10 page paper that i forgot to save, true story. I hate PCs and will never buy anything but an apple product. Im trying to convince my parents to buy a mac mini but the value is kinda low right now so after the next refresh i hope to get one.

Also, i wanted a machine i can be proud of. when i work on my macbook in a library or coffee shop between classes i can be proud to pull out my macbook. If i had a dell i would hide in a closet.

OSX is why I buy apple products.

MacBook because I wanted something smaller than a MacBook Pro but faster then the MacBook Air.

I am getting the new 17" MacBook Pro as a primary machine and going to use this MacBook as a mobile system for School and Work.

i have been a Windows user all my life, and will continue to be. i work in IT so it doesn't bother me what gets fixed...

got my macbook for work, b/c we will be closing with a Mac client who is fustrated with their IT company, and willing to pay me to help them out with their mac issues (yes, mac has issues contrary to what everyone says).

plus, it's something else for me to learn, which is always good.

I decided to purchase the MB because I was tired of Windows. I wanted to try something new and I thought that Macs were also great computers. I also bought the MB because it's portable. The iMac was one of my options, but I decided to get the MB because I don't want to spend my vacation using a Windows laptop. The Operating System is also stable.

I bought one because all of my work apps have run on mac os since circa 1993. The technical specs weren't too bad for the macbook and turned out comparable to anything else so I can dual boot to run arch linux for personal use. I certainly didn't purchase it for the horrible build quality or to escape from one crap OS to another, though.

Well, I've used Apple computers since I was a youngster typing away on an Apple II. Been Mac ever since except for 1 laptop that was given to me as a second machine that was the proverbial PC POS.

What keeps me on Macs? The same thing that always has- I've always felt that Apple combines the best OS in the world with their own, high quality hardware. The user experience can't be beat- simple and powerful personified.

Previously the now wife and I had a G4 1ghz 12" Powerbook. After its years of use and its minor issues, it was one of the greatest laptops you could have. After we got married, we decided to go for a nice upgraded. Also I much prefer the OSX for home use because I sit on Windows machines for 9 hours a day. When I compute at home, I want change.

I'm a brand new mac user and owner. I've had my alum macbook for about 6 days, and I'm utterly in love. I have found OSX to be a breeze to convert to, and fun to learn.

Before this week, I last used a mac in the 5th grade, about 23-24 years ago. Playing some Oregon Trail :D

Based on my experience so far, I don't think I'll be going back to a Windows machine for home use any time soon.

I've always been a Mac user so it was really an easy decision when I wanted a laptop lighter than the MacBook Pro. (I didn't see a MacBook Air thread so I equate them to be similar enough to post here :p)

For me it was because I was just tired of Windows and how I was constantly "fighting" with it to work on it. I mean a Windows machine it can still surf the web, copy DVDs, download music etc... but the overall finish just isn't there. That's why I really like all the neat little features in OS X and the MacBook itself. I can browse the internet using three fingers to do everything from scrolling, switching tabs, copy/paste, and back/forward... It's stupid easy to use lol and I don't even have to lift my wrist. Plus the overall finish on the aluminum MacBook is ten times sleeker and sexier than any other PC on the market. Out of everything I would say that OS X was the biggest reason why I bought a MacBook.

The list gets bigger and bigger everyday of all the things that Mac has on Windows...

I was going to buy my first portable computer ever, and I needed it for schoolwork.

I wanted something which was easy to use, and I wanted to try out something new, and in my case, more exotic than Windows was. I also wanted a design that was slim, robust and problemfree. This is why I gladly payed extra for the aluminum MacBook, instead of buying a standard laptop.

Keypoint was the easy way to use it. It's much easier to organize documents on the MacBook. Same goes for pictures, videos, and even programs. It's also a more effecient system. Have you ever experienced Windows just taking "naps". Like it using a hell of a long time to just open a normal document? The Mac never does this, it's always sharp.

It is also a better tool for school. The callendar function is awesome, and helps me organize deadlines in one place, tying them up with documents and links

You could say I could just download a thirdparty callendar for Windows, but I don't want to do this. The OSX is a complete package of everything I need. The programs that OSX features are professional and easy to use programs, unlike Windows. Like I don't need to download Final Cut or Premiere on a Mac when I have iMovie. But on a Windows you need these programs, cause Movie Maker is just crap.

Windows is spreading everywhere in my country
And it has many problems

After I bought the Aluminum MacBook  on wednesday Feb 4 09, I fall in love with it
And my wife is jalousie!

I told my friends: Windows is coming without any software and any tremendous features with it.. so, it is like a naked guy!

You have to dress him with softwares!

But the mac .. Powerful!

The only problem in my country is the banks websites..

They require internet explorer  imagine that!

Since the original iMac g3 ive always had my eyes on macs but could never make the move, after seeing people's macbook/dual monitor setups I thought to my self "that's executive as hell". Then looking into the OS more I decided that a macbook would work as a desktop and laptop for college in the fall and work flawlessly. :)

So I guess It'd be ranked by most needed to least ::
1. OS change [[PCs on their last legs, hard drive failure and defragging]]
2. Flexibility [[desktop with keyboard, mouse and external monitor]]
3. Executive Look [[apples are damned sexy]]
4. OSX and Windows on a virtual machine [[best of both worlds]]

only con is price in my eyes [[and 300$ difference if you want backlit keyboard]]

1. I had a little experience with iBooks and really liked working with them and really enjoyed OS X.

2. After doing some price comparisons with Dell, with whom I was very close to ordering myself an Inspiron with my wife who was doing the same, I saw that Apple machines are not really priced that much higher, there is no true "low-end" model.

3. I was tired of my desktops slowing down considerably after being just one-year-old. After seeing that I really could afford a Mac (the Dell I BTO-ed was just a few hundred less than the MacBook) and knowing that the iBooks were several years old and worked like new, it sealed the deal.

No brainer

I actually switched from a Santa Rosa MBP to a 2.4 Unibody Macbook last week.

I was going to go for a previous gen 2.5Ghz MBP (non-unibody), however after trying out the Macbook at the Apple store, it was clear to see that the unibody design and multi-touch trackpad were game-changers.

These are the most beautifully designed and engineered laptops ever and are a joy to use. There is really nothing else that comes close.... and even if it did in external build... nothing can replace OS X.

As other's have mentioned, you are not fighting the operating system.. and this is important as it something you use every day, normally for hours on end.

I was a PC guy for years, but saw the light about 4 years ago.. :)
