I have an Aztek, it gets ~22 mpg, so not too bad. I don't do well in compact cars though as I'm 6'7" / 250 lbs.

I'm with you..

Jeep Liberty (CRAP GAS MILAGE!) / 6'6" / 270lbs

Compact cars. <snort>

I know what you mean . We have something in common. I'm a girl and a parent too... my kids are age 1 and 2.

But macrumors is the only forum I have time for. I did want to change my user name to something that didn't sound quite so masculine, but never got around to it, and now I have about 400 posts or more, this one is here to stay.

i used my own name (Blue) in my username but that does me no good, Blue is a very androgenous name; i've met one other "Blue" and it was a guy [shrugs] so be it, i love my name. i put the woman symbol in my sig and then when i became a supporter the "goddess" aspect helped identify my girliness ;) i don't mind being a "minority" though, i'm pretty used to it, i've never been what you call ordinary, although i admit i try. (i don't like to call too much attention to myself)
anyway, yes i have a 3 year old son - and he will be an only child... [haha] it's not easy and i am definitely the least maternal person that i know. i love the little guy but i have no idea what i am doing with a kid

Well that's why Ford and GM's financials are in the toilet lately. I have an Aztek, it gets ~22 mpg, so not too bad. I don't do well in compact cars though as I'm 6'7" / 250 lbs. Still even for trucks and SUVs foreign car makers do much better with gas mileage. It really irritates me that American auto companies have ignored hybrid technology or even just create more fuel efficient gas engines. Now that gas prices are high and people don't want a gas-guzzler their cars aren't selling. Ford is in such a tizzy that they made a version of the Escape hybrid but had to lease the technology from Toyota because they didn't invest in it themselves in a timely fashion.

I don't know if I'd say you are getting what you deserve but Ford and GM certainly are. I think it was GM that lost about 2 billion USD last quarter alone.

i have a Nissan Pathfinder. the sucker still only get 15-17 miles per gallon. come to think of it, i've never had a car that got better than 22 mpg - i'm doomed.
my husband's truck is a Chevy Silverado (surburban sized behemoth) we used to need it to tow our snowmobiles but we sold those. it's handy to have but i really think we could do better. our cars are paid for though and you can't beat that (sometimes)

i am so not an american car type of person, so i hear ya

Wow nice to know that there is hope for me! I am definitely not much of a little kiddie lover... I have no problems w/ making googly faces and cooing at other peoples' kids, but the thought of having my own personal monster to look after and worry over 24/7 makes me feel sick to my stomach. But perhaps, I will have one (or more? ) since you are shining a ray of hope in that direction. Hee.

I have a tiny car, but my mileage is still pretty lame... I get anywhere from 24-27 mpg city driving. *shaking head* It's actually getting a little better now that I'm breaking it in a bit more. I've had it for over a year and a half and I have yet to break the 8K mile mark. :p I don't drive too much.

My Avatar has nothing to do with this forum. It is simply a reminder not to get your head to close to a wheel on a RUF CTR2 (With Special Apple center caps) while it is on the Dynamometer !

That is something everyones parents should teach their children during their early years.

;)

I need a truck but don't have one (2 KTM dirt bikes), however I do enjoy German cars too much to buy a truck at this point, While also not having car payments. I bought a VW Passat 1.8t back in 2000 (now paid off YAY) and have been happy with it's 32+ MPG highway (I have 220k miles on her already). I drive about 45 minutes to get to work.

It is also a great car for people over 6' Tall like myself :)

There be strange things a happenin' round these 'ere parts....yarrrrr...
I guess everybody ended up going to get the same bad haircut.

I guess that's what happens when you try the new gay guy at the expensive hair salon, and he turns out to be straight with all the style of the marine cutting the hair of the new recruits.

i dont think my 'eye' would look right with the hair.... maybe when i change my 'tar i can join the party, or maybe i just won't follow the herd either way, who knows, i gotta keep you guys and gals guessing here :D

bout to change my 'tar to this to see if it gets hair :p

The hair thing is amusing, but you guys are getting way too wound up about it.

It's an inside joke, if you are not on the inside just accept it and don't get all wound up. All I know is there must be lots of crazy secrets on those private forums.

I always let me hair down during the summer. As for the others, I don't know what the heck's up with them.

cars just piss me off... well, rather gas prices just piss me off ;)

and yes, there's hope for you with regard to kids. i often question whether or not i was meant to be a mother but it works out somehow. it's the hardest thing i've ever had to deal with in my life though - being a parent really sucks sometimes but then there are those times when they are so cute that you can't imagine it any other way.
i digress :)

i.e., the other day i was just in an uncommonly bad mood and ended up crying over something (lord help me i don't even remember what sparked it off) but he came up with his huge blue eyes looking so concerned and put his little hand on my arm and said "it's ok momma." then he took his finger and wiped a tear from my face and put it on his own cheek. [sniff sniff] it was seriously one of the sweetest things i've ever seen... and it made me cry harder :p
you just never know with kids.

that looks like a BMW rim in your avatar to me but i could be mistaken. i have a fondness for the german vehicles too, heck many upscale european cars and motorcycles (ahem: Ducati ;))

so how do you transport your bikes? do you have a trailer? we want one, i'm tired of loading into the truck really, towing them would be much easier. i nearly dropped my XR onto myself while loading it in on an unfortunate incline. that's what i get for being stubborn and not just letting my husband do it.
nice to hear from another dirtbiker here! :)
