why do i feel iPhone 5 will not be a MAJOR redesign?

We have no clue what the design will be. Those materials you speak of are just that....materials. Apple could use the all glass concept again but still redesign the phone. Prepare to be Excited. Let Apple disappoint you first before you are disappointed. People are getting upset prematurely.
This rumored iPhone design goin around is still only a rumor. Relax!
Which would make it more uncomfortable to hold in it's naked form. I reckon it'd be better if they kept it the same thickness and used the extra space for an even bigger battery.
I don't think making the iPhone thinner is going to make it more uncomfortable to hold 'naked'. I think making the backing curved would help a great deal with respect to comfort in hand while holding.
Crazy to make the case against making a smartphone thinner/lighter.
If you like it the way it is now and think it is perfect then why would you want a major redesign?let's face it, iPhone 4/4S is perfect but all these rumors we've been having lately are depressing....all of them indicate it's going to be 4-inch screen blah blah.
everything i've read so far about the iPhone 5 makes me think it's going to look exactly like the iPhone 4/4S but only with a few minor design differences like a 4-inch display instead of 3.5 or different back cover etc...
as much as i love my iPhone 4, i'm hoping for a MAJOR redesign.

phone changes from a brick to the iPhone era, and it's getting much thinner.
if you were in the year 1998 and u use a nokia 3110. then i tell you about iPhone features in only 9mm thick case, will you say the same thing about design failure?
well, iPhone someday is going to be that thin (the image i posted earlier), and durability is much higher even with that thinness. maybe im exaggerated to hope the next iphone will look like that, but i believe in 2015 all smartphones will be that thin, more durable, more battery life, and packing more features than the current smartphone.
battery life is advancing, maybe in the next couple years a 2mm sheet of battery could power device for 10 hours.
did u know about microsd card? i'm still amazed how they crammed 64GB of space into that thing that is so thin.

There is no front facing camera and it's not thick enough to hold the battery necessary for 4G.
In the future, technology may advance far enough to give us thin batteries.

it's gonna be another incremental upgrade like the 4s which was nothing more than siri added on with a bump in processor, etc. gimmick. apple is just trying to milk it as long as they can. ip5's screen will get larger and they will now tout it's revolutionary and magical with more siri commands. yea.. like anyone really uses it.
And your implying the iTouch is uncomfortable to hold? I certainly don't agree with that.

Just look at the leaked parts on youtube or on this site. We pretty well know exactly what the phone is gunna look like, we have the back and side frame, the front glass, what else is there.
Apple are not some Godly wonder company that can invent materials that are cost effective to mass produce and sell at a profit.
They have listed to the customers of their phones and made the changes that they see doable, with the production capability available.
First is the size, its 4", im dissapointed that its just gunna be longer and not wider, I don't see how a screen that is just longer is relevant. They needed to keep the aspect ratio the same for a more usefull form factor for a portable device.
LTE is obvious.
The headphone jack on the bottom is brilliant, the jeneous that thought of that should be promoted.
The back won't be glass, nobody liked that. Hopefully the design will make at least some people think to use their phones Naked and not have to buy a case to cover up its design. I would never use the current iphone 4/4s without a case, its too delicate and uncomfortable in the hand. But it is beautiful.
The processor will be from the New Ipad. Next gen iphone, the Iphone5s will probably have low voltage upgrades and bettery battery and maybe better IS on the cameras.
Apple listened to their lemmings and they made the changes that will make the new iphone the No.1 Phone for years to come.
What I hate about all this is new design = no cases, screen protectors, 3rd party accessories available for at least 6 months. And then they will be priced at a premium until the market is flooded like it is now. The fact that they are changing the charge port rots me. I finally have a cable in every corner of my house/work/vehicle.
Surprised to hear anyone say the current iTouch is uncomfortable to hold. It's so light.

I certainly feel that it could be, but that is not concrete evidence. We have seen other "leaks" that seemed legit that turned out to be fakes.
Personally I like phones to be fairly heavy... Light phones tend to feel cheap & tacky, while phones with a bit of substance to them are more satisfying to use and hold
No we haven't. We've seen RENDERS, we never get actual physical hardware unless it's real. Before these parts leaked there were articles that described that exact design.
iPhone 3G back leaked, whole iPhone 4 leaked, iPhone 4S leaked (diff model #, making it distinguishable from the 4).
I'm 99% sure that's the new iPhone....

Hi All, I did some 3d renders comparing the iPhone4 and iPhone5 (model inspired from leaked parts) Hope you guys like it
I assumed the new gorilla glass will be thinner and flushed to the metal frame. I added more colors options since the back is metal like the iPod nano.
