Personally I like phones to be fairly heavy... Light phones tend to feel cheap & tacky, while phones with a bit of substance to them are more satisfying to use and hold :)

I feel the opposite. I prefer the phone to be as light as possible.

but i want NEW things! i hope Apple can release a whole new product every year not just an update.

That's stupid, wastes R&D time, wrecks your supply chain, is expensive and alienates accessory makers.

The Apple template is not special as Apple has already followed the same model with their laptops and desktops; where there is a midlife refresh before introduction of a fully new model. It's a model that works well and Apple should not break it just for people that want somthing shiny to show off every year.

Hi All, I did some 3d renders comparing the iPhone4 and iPhone5 (model inspired from leaked parts) Hope you guys like it :)

I assumed the new gorilla glass will be thinner and flushed to the metal frame. I added more colors options since the back is metal like the iPod nano.

I'll be excited if they do other colors! Otherwise, it's a white one for me this year...

I found this on a Chinese website. Often it's some false stuff, not sure how authentic is this one:

i still think the glass on the front screen is going to be totally flush with the metal. The edging of the frame makes it seem like it will be. your glass is a little raised and you can see the edge. It would look better if it totally flat with no visible glass edge .

No we haven't. We've seen RENDERS, we never get actual physical hardware unless it's real. Before these parts leaked there were articles that described that exact design.

iPhone 3G back leaked, whole iPhone 4 leaked, iPhone 4S leaked (diff model #, making it distinguishable from the 4).

I'm 99% sure that's the new iPhone....

I seem to distinctly remember "parts" that turned out to be a sham pretty much every release after the first iPhone. Frankly, it wouldn't be hard to fake an elongated backplate byt actually making a physical item yourself. For some reason, not sure why, but likely the publicity and hits it provides, people seem to enjoy spending countless hours trying to convince fakes are real. As I said, I am not saying what we have isn't real, but just because we had someone show us a couple parts of what looks like nothing more than an elongated phone (again, this would be the easiest fake to fabricate) I am reserving judgement. Frankly, we cannot be sure. You say you are 99% sure. That still means you are not sure. :)

i very much like this and it would be nice to have different colour options.

Little thing I noticed since getting the S3......

I use my iPad a little less. The S3's screen is sometimes good enough to make it not worth the effort of going into the other room to get the iPad.

Could Apple perhaps be worried that a class of iPhone with a bigger screen might cannibalise iPad sales?

iPhone 5 will be different but not major compared to Android devices. LTE is a given and a 4 inch stretched display is all that I can see Apple doing. Maybe a different gpu to handle the higher screen res and a ram bump to 1gig. Tweaks to the antenna or some other small hardware bump.

yeah... i agree with this. and the iphone after that will have a small speed bump and a retina 4" screen... yawn

Agree, i see no benefit of a heavy phone and is what ive been saying is why many here feel the Samsung Galaxy phones feel cheap. It's just because are light and these people are used to their heavy iPhones.

The Samsung phones are built very solid. Sure the plastic back will pop off sometimes if you drop it but thats better than it shattering into pieces. Just pop the back back on (unless you have a case and that wont happen) and go on your way.

If you look a bit out of Apple you see that other suppliers are there already.

Example, what is Apples market share of ~7" pads? Well, 0%

Example, what is Apples market share of phone with a similar screen size as the S2? Again, 0%.

Apple is very slow in releasing new products and it's obvious that they missed that trend quite badly.

Apple doesn't want to join the junk phone, sell poorly, make no money trend...

Phones with 4+ inch screens and 7 inch tablets aren't junk because of their size. A 4 inch iPhone will be the best-selling one yet and Apple would have huge success with a 7 inch IPad.

Exactly! Apple simply missed that trend. When the iPad came out they were very firm about that THIS is the size and no other size will be really useful. I totally agree! But it looks like many others don't think so (yes, to my surprise too) and the Kindle Fire and Samsung Note do really well.

It'll be bad for business if they keep the same design for 3 phones.
It will be a redesign,%100 Guaranteed.

Not to mention that Apple has never used the same iPhone design for 3 generations.

That whole common sense thing might come in handy here.

Apple actually needs a 7" tablet, otherwise its ambitions in the publishing market will come to nothing. I don't find the iPad at all pleasant for reading books on as it's just a bit too heavy.

More than likely, #1 is the culprit. Automobile makers tend to keep the same designs for 4 years minimum before major redesigns. But when a tech company such as Apple keeps the same phone design for more than a year they never hear the end of it from the opposition. Desktop UI such as MS Windows, and OSX has looked the same for years without question. While iOS on the other hand after 5 years is already becoming stale to some people? It's crazy how some things work.

People buy new phones every year or two... Therefore they don't want their new phone to look exactly like their old phone.

Cars are a slightly different animal as far as their longevity with the customer. Not to mention design changeovers for automobiles require a lot more resources and engineering and then changing the design of a 5x3in phone.
