No slow down here. Keep my phone clean and do not put a lot of junk on it. I also have lots of memory left. Never noticed any of my iPhone's slowing down, even after two years.
Same here. Keep phone memory 40 % clear. Get all the latest iOS updates. Never have noticed slowdown.

Hi,

I did see this on my iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus occasionally.

I know you can't have this on your iPhone 5 but downloading a Content Blocker worked wonders for greatly reducing this occurrence on my devices.
Content blockers have been a wonderful addition. Use them on both iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Air 2. Speeds up downloads, reduces data used, and saves on battery. Once in a great while a sight will not load and message comes up that I must turn off content blockers. Instead I just ignore and don't use the sight. I use Blockr the most, and Internet browsing is back to what it used to be years ago. Fast, add free. And not downloading all those surveillance trackers may have a great deal to do with keeping my iOS devices running fast and smooth.

From my experience iOS slows down when storage becomes low, which is why it's a good idea to back up the device and free up storage.

Also experienced is when updating to a new version of iOS. Even though Apple suggested iOS8 worked fine on older devices, upgrading iOS7 to iOS8 on some devices was terrible, slowing down the device.

Apple suggesting users upgrade to a new iOS version is an example of planned obsolescence in my opinion. This view is supported by the fact users can not rollback or downgrade their iOS*.
(*Except for a very small window of about a week after the new version has been released. After that Apple stops signing older versions of iOS making rolling back or downgrading not possible.)

My view is that devices with a 64 bit architecture appear to be more robust than those with older 32 bit architecture. For instance, devices with an A7 processor including iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 or later appear to be resilient from iOS7 through to iOS9. Hopefully that's still the case come iOS10.

I think the bigger question is why does Safari for iOS keep crashing when visiting the MacRumors forums.

Thanks....that is consistent with my experience. I don't fill my phone up with junk so the flash memory isn't bogged down. Probably it is just the architecture is not able to handle the new iOS.

Battery issues other mentioned...I know of that and just bring a battery recharger pack to refill. Also probably again where the architecture has challenges in digesting the new iOS.

If anything, android devices are said to slow down (more) over ios.

At one time this was very true, early versions at least up through ice cream sandwich were very bad. Newer versions are really good though. We have a mixture of ios and android devices and android holds up at least as good, for the last few versions, as ios and I think even a little better. I backup and reinstall the ios devices regularly (probably every 6 months to a year) and the android devices I don't have to. The system "wear" as I call it has gotten a LOT better with android.

That being said in a month or so I am going to get a 6s plus through apple's iphone upgrade program. Backing up and restoring is easy through itunes and it does not bother me to do it.

I would go along with the degradation being due to installing and uninstalling but the wife never installs or uninstalls anything on her phone, sets it up how she wants it when new (iphone) but I have to do hers ever so often. The last time a month or so ago.

It's interesting that you say w/current version of android, system wear/slowdown is nearly nil now.

It's all good...

Yes, I agree. I would say since Kitkat, lollipop and marshmallow it has gotten really good and getting better. Jellybean was better than ics but still not quite there. Ice cream sandwich I was reinstalling every couple of weeks as I play around a lot with apps, customization, etc. With Lollipop though and now marshmallow they nailed it, well at least a whole lot better. Some things I do not like with sdcard handling but there are trade off's on both sides.

Both are very usable, a couple of relatives have windows phones and I am surprised how stable they are.

Like you say, it's all good......

My coworker doesn't update his phone because he said it will never run as fast as the original software. In my experience it slows a little but I'm on s 2 yr upgrade cycle. Games and apps get more complex. No different than a computer.

LOL!!!! Samsung doesn't slow after and update!!!
.....hehehe.....
OK....wow.....well....I haven't experienced any iPhone slowdown after a one year update. It does slow down after three years. I can still use my 3GS, for example, but I didn't upgrade it after iOS 5.
Of course, by three years, any Samsung is a hot mess of processed bovine feed. Heck my Note 4 couldn't manage the update from KitKat to Lollipop.

iPhones not usually slow downs within such a small time span. People do not clean their iPhones and keep lots of junk data, due to which iPhone might get slow, otherwise they have great features, storage and warranty.

It always makes me smile when i see someone say "troll" basically translated, i don't like what you are saying so I'm going to dismiss it right off the bat...

I have 5S's and 6S's both of which did start to slow down like the OP stated after a period of time and i was talking to a former coworkers who's are now at apple and they gave me a good time. DFU the phone and download the full OS though itunes, don't apply the patches in a serial fashion. I did this and it did make a difference to my devices and how they run. If you DFU you will need to restore your data, if you dont want to do that running the upgrade via iTunes also helps.

Hope thats helpful rather than condescending or simply dismissive and insulting.

Please explain "DFU"

After purchasing iPhones, they slow after a year....after the iOS updates and especially when a new release is install.

I had that experience with my iPhone4...and with my family's 5s and 6s. For me...I hate to say but I defected to a Samsung and I have had it for 2.5 years and it is just works as fine as day one.

Why do iPhones slow down so severely? I really want to get back to an iPhone but that is preventing me.

purchased for half year, not experienced any slow phenomenon now

My iPhone 6+ is approaching 2 years and it still runs just fine.

I would suggest you stick to your Samsung. Pour some champagne on it for entertainment.

A bit melodramatic. But i would agree samsung has made far too many questionable decisions.

Both my iPhone 6 and my iPad Air 2 are as buttery smooth as the day I got them. Not sure what you're on about. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

I have a 6 and it runs terribly now. Surprisingly, my 6+ runs much more smoothly. Might have to do with the lack of free space on the 6 since it's a 16GB model...

Im running 4s with iOS 8 and its working fine, dont feel any slowdown. Im guessing its all about your needs and usage...

For sure newer iOS demanding stronger hardware, but the biggest reason for slowing down is fully loaded storage and memory with hundreds of useless apps that no one ever use, huge media libraries (mainly pictures, videos and music) and dozens of apps running in the background.

So basically a lot of comments saying the thread creator is a liar. Can't be because the Apple experience is inconsistent.

Who called the OP a liar? I must have missed that. I certainly didn't. The OP public ally supposed on a forum that bc of his anecdotal experience, all iPhones dramatically slowed over the course of a year or two. What I read were example after examples from other folks that their experience was something different. No need to be so dramatic.

Interesting. I too have a 6 with 16GB of storage. Currently I have ~1.5 GB free. Also running the latest OS.
