Don't put yours in a case/sleeve. In fact, I encourage you to use it to take pictures, fling it around like a frisbee with your buddies, etc.

Net result: 1 more iPad sale to you from Apple and us Apple shareholders. :)

I agree with porcupine8 that in the context of this discussion, functional implies better, because you were responding to her categorizing an iPad as a tool. Tools are supposed to be functional, therefore when you said Android was more functional, I too interpreted that as meaning that Android is better. But you've since retracted the use of that word, so let's not argue this point further.

As for your insistence that tablets are just toys and not tools, well that's your OPINION. As you said, this is a discussion forum, so people have different opinions, and if they see a different opinion than theirs, they argue with you. There's nothing personal about that. I don't think porcupine8 is taking this discussion personally at all, but if you do, well, that again is your OPINION.

I do, however, agree with you about people who buy keyboard cases -- I too feel like saying "Just buy a laptop!" But this too is our OPINION. We may not see a point in keyboard cases, but apparently other people do, and while we may be puzzled by this and feel it's stupid -- well, other people are entitled to their opinions and preferences. *shrug*

Lastly, in my opinion, you are the only one making a big deal of your having "dared to" mention Android. I mean, again like you said, this is a discussion forum devoted to iPads, of course if you mention Android it's going to provoke a discussion. That's so predictable it's not daring, it's just boring. Well, that's MY OPINION.

Sorry, I don't see your point? Are you saying I need to point out every time something I say is my opinion? Everything I say (bar facts) is my opinion so that would be somewhat pointless. I realise what your actually saying but I'm pointing out that I am more than aware these are peoples opinions.

As for porcupine8; his/her (you reference it as a her, which is why I suspect you're jumping to her e-rescue you e-knight in shining armour you!;)) first comment in this thread was a facetious comment, which was the one I was replying to when I first mentioned Android, but because I mentioned Android I have now had to talk about and explain myself repeatedly, that's why I believe people make a big deal about it. I don't even like the things!

Anyway, I believe this thread had run it's course as far as I'm concerned, so I will be reading/commenting no more. My appologies to everyone for my part in taking this thread off course. :)

Yes, I happen to know that porcupine8 is a woman from some previous posts she made. However, her gender has nothing to do with my jumping into this discussion. I've jumped into plenty of discussions where I knew nothing about the participants' gender. I just get annoyed when people are saying illogical things, and like to get my two-cents in, that's all. I think you have a tendency to jump to conlusions, as in this attribution of gender-related motive to me. And in my opinion, that is what I think dragged out this discussion, rather than your mention of Android -- you kept attributing imagined motives to other people. For instance, you keep saying that mentioning Android has gotten you into this discussion, when you are the one who is making it a big deal by keeping on repeating that it is a big deal. Does that make any sense?

The reason why I never put any sleeve or case around my ipod, iphone and macbook is because I take care of my devices and nothing has ever happened to me in the 8 years I've owned Apple devices. That is all.

Now when I see people carrying their ithings with cases, I understand why they do it but I still find that very ugly.

I care about my stuff, but I don't get sick or annoyed if there's a tiny scratch on the back of the device which, how amazing that sounds, I never look at ^^

Your post was really unnecessary, but thanks for taking time to write pointless things again :)

After I had a scare while watching a movie in my tow truck, I decided to make sure I was safe and got the Otterbox. I take it out on my days off and run a smart cover, but I can never see being fully unprotected. It's just piece of mind for me since I can't afford to buy a replacement.

When I am on a bus or train going to work or anywhere else, I use a case because I do prefer to protect it. When I am using it at work, I use the case as a stand so I don't have to hold it in my lap.

I don't care if you use a case or not, it's your iPad. If you don't want to protect it, that's on you.

But your logic is flawed. That's like saying, "I haven't gotten in a car accident in 8 years, so I'll probably never get in one."

I throw my iPad in my backpack, which contains other potentially sharp items such as keys, pens, an umbrella, etc. I also want something to hold it upright for viewing movies or at an angle for typing. Right now, I have a smart cover on my iPad for a minimalistic look, and I put it in a padded sleeve before it goes in my backpack.

Same, smart cover for when it's out, padded sleeve for when it's in my main bag with MBP etc:D

----------

I buy cases for one or two very good reasons:

I like to keep all my tech clean and in perfect condition as I like to update fairly regularly which means higher re-sale value.

Your 3.5yr old 3GS will be scratched to **** whether you think it is or not - the plastic shell is scratched so easily and the 'chrome' bezel chips off and scratches just as easily too.. I had one before without a case and it was awful when I wanted to sell it. Then I bought the iPhone 4 with a case and sold it for 75% of it's original price when the 4S came out. It will be the same when the 5 launches - cases = protection, therefore maintaining the quality and 'new' finish of the product from day one meaning I get more money when replacing it for newer versions.

And secondly, I like to look after everything I have for my own benefit too - I notice every little mark and scratch that shouldn't be there and it drives me insane knowing they exist so if it's wrapped up when it isn't in use then then it's far less likely to damage, even if you are careful with it.
:)
Simples.
