Nothing made me cringe more than hearing people call the 3rd gen ipad "The New iPad".

Ex:

"I had and ipad 2, then upgraded to 'The New iPad', and now I have the ipad 4"

The problem came about because of the way apple introduced and subsequently advertised the ipad as "the New ipad". I'm sure the lesson Apple took away from that is to not overestimate common sense.

Actually, it wasn't "The New iPad". It was "The new iPad". Big difference.

They used lower case n.

So rather, hopefully they learned that the majority of Americans are illiterate and never made it through primary school English.

Still can't fathom why anyone thought the adjective 'new' was part of the name.

Actually I did. Apple fans only take seriously what they want to take seriously. They think the names Apple give their products are a joke. This is evident by their refusal to use the names Apple gave them.

Very correct. It's not illegal to call it whatever you want. I was just trying to find out why the people here do this. And it seems the answer to that is "they call it whatever they want to no matter what anyone else says no the subject.

So, when you write out the current date, I'm guessing you would write "The seventeeth day of October, two thousand and thirteen years after the death of Jesus," right?

Oh wait, no, you shorten it to 10/17/2013? But..that's shortening it..

I fail to understand why people simply refuse to name the product properly. This is an Apple fan site with some pretty fanatical Apple fans on it. That is cool. But for people who are that into Apple, they are pretty stubborn on using the incorrect name for the iPad.

We had similar issues with iPod touch vs iTouch.

We don't mind what you use as long as it makes sense and there's no bickering about it. :)

This thread is hysterical. I totally agree that calling the 5th generation iPad the "iPad 5" is legit for shorthand.

But what's funny is that it contradicts what a lot of people said to defend calling the 6th Gen iPhone the iPhone 5 prior to it getting that official name. ;)

Granted, it's just a name and with the way the iPhones were previously named it made some sort of sense. But it's also probably a factor in what caused a thread like this to be created in the first place. lol
