It's easy to match with other colours and can be rendered 'invisible' when you want it to. A black rectangle doesn't stick out as much as say...a bright orange rectangle. The 17 Pro looks awesome in orange, and I want it in this moment, but colours go in and out of style and most people see their phones as tools.

Ultimately I like different colours based on my mood, but for something I carry with me every day and almost everywhere it's simpler and safer to pick the plainest colour; black (or grey). Perhaps it's risk aversion.

As for heat; I live in a place that regularly gets to -40C, so any additional heat is much appreciated! Seriously though, I don't recall the sun impacting my phone's temperature levels, unless I was using it in a phone holder to navigate on a hot summer day. Even then, I doubt a white phone would fair much better.

I think for me it goes back to iPhone 4 maybe 5 where these sold in huge volume and set the standard for iPhone colours.

I know there was a white one, but I think the black looked particularly good!
4, 4s and two iPhone 5's (5, not 5s).

The white iPhone 5 is my wife's old phone, purchased Summer 2013. The black one is mine, purchased September 2012 (pre-ordered, launch day delivered).

Right now the two 5's are being used infrequently as speakers for my MacPro (through Airfoil).

Hi

Why do people like the color black on an iPhone ? isn't the color black on iPhone more prone to overheating in the summer months especially if you live in the desert south west like extreme southern California Arizona border nv and Phoenix area ? then other color iPhone
For the same reason that people buy black cars …
This is just another pure nonsense post

In what world is white a “gay” color?? She sounds insane lol.
You are not far off, well, maybe spot on when you say “insane”!

Interesting that some have implied that black isn’t a fashion statement. The sister in-law dresses in black as a fashion statement - she always wears black! My daughter likes to dress in black too. Very different reasons and for her it’s part of her teenage fashion.

Lack of color is important for people that look at color for a living, such as graphic design where ambient color distorts color perception. Others simply prefer gray or black. Personally I prefer unobtrusive space gray.

As to heat, mostly folks have the screen side up so all smartphones will quickly overheat due to insolation gain in bright sun. Turned face side down the iPhone 17 Pro silver will be a good reflector of insolation. All the other colors will be generally absorptive of insolation.

Looks better than these colorful rainbow colors.

I think there are a lot of people who have convinced themselves that really cutting edge and powerful tech items must be in black. That if you have a white or colorful phone, you're not in a Matrix sequel. And lots of people want to think of themselves that way, it's tech bro wish fulfillment.

Case in point. After the Air was introduced, I knew I wanted one. However, the color options were white, (with a hint of blue) white (with a hint of gold) real white, or black. I didn't pay close enough attention when purchasing the black to note that it didn't come with polished rails, which I like, and comes with the real white color. I do like the contrast of the different black colors offered with the black Air. If I had to do it over again, I would get the real white with polished rails.

Because I do, I couldn’t care less that others don’t.
I also like blue, teal, green and grey, all towards the mid to dark end of the spectrum.
I don’t mind silver, red, orange or purple depending on the exact shade. I’m pretty picky about gold and brown.
I don’t like white, yellow or pink.
Other people do, so what? Doesn’t affect me in the slightest.

Black will actually run the coolest when it’s not in the sun as it radiates heat better than other colors.

Also, I prefer a black bezel/border as it is less distracting when viewing the screen.

I live in the desert southwest. You don't leave anything in the sun or your car - nothing happens with normal use. I only had 1 iPhone that wasn't black because I don't like the pale pastel colors typically offered.

I'm in canada btw lol

I did not know that the world has now been reduced to “the desert south west like extreme southern California Arizona border nv and Phoenix area” and this is now the only inhabitable area. If air will only be breathable there, let me know so I can go.
