Why do some people LITERALLY get SO MAD at iPhone users for liking iPhones?

I agree with the OP and its something I have noticed across a range of sites. Of course there are fans of iOS that do this to Android users but I would say its definitely worse going the other way. There does seem to be a large dislike for the iPhone amongst techies and this is reciprocated on many of the tech sites like Engadget, Gizmodo, Tech Radar, Tech Crunch etc etc. Perhaps people who are passionate about tech feel every device they use should be totally customisable and free? I think iOS gets on peoples nerves because its pretty locked down and it annoys people that others are not bothered by this?

I'm an Android defector in effect and I've been interrogated many times as to why I chose to go to a different platform. Something I don't really have to justify and its something that really is about as insignificant in life as what toaster brand I have in my kitchen. We all enjoy gadgets and for different reasons. The hate we see is just arrogance that others don't all share the same opinions. :)

Same reason meat eaters get mad at people who don't eat animals. The people who like iPhones are happy. The people who don't eat animals are happy. This happiness causes anger. It's really weird because the people who are happy are also happy for the people who are angry. Maybe the people who are angry see how they too can be happy but fight and rebel against it. Maybe. Who knows. Just know I'm happy :)

lol androids? the phones that use a cheap knockoff version of iOS and consists of mainly plastic phones?

people in 3rd and 2nd world countries move mountains to get an iPhone.

I always tell my android loving friends that if you'd probably be iPhone fans if you were born and raised in those countries because its just simply hard to afford.

rather than getting a basic android phone that everyone else has

It's always funny to me whenever you're at a party and someone says "hey go have some food!" and you're like "no, thats ok I'm not hungry", but then they keep pressing and you have to tell them nicely "well, I don't eat meat". For some reason they always give you this look...

... like you're gonna try and convert them at that moment or something

I personally never had anyone get mad at me tho for not eating dead flesh. If they did I would tell them to shove it

This kind of behavior is very widespread, just read the comments on pretty much every tech site.

I have never understood this and I never bother to argue with these people as its pointless anyway. I have my reasons to like my iphone (and Mac for that matter) and as long as I'm happy with that that's all that counts.

I'm pretty sure its the other way around.

i can careless if theres more vegetarians, Beef is going to be expensive in the future because of population growth. Its just weird, and you have to spend more money on food to get the needed proteins in meat. If you dont your not doing it right, and is possibly a health risk.

its usually the vegetarians that go "how can you eat animals", you mean animals we were naturally meant to eat as omnivores?

the lack of foie gras in the US (besides high end restaurants and vegas) is the only thing that pisses me off. Damn PETA, what a worthless organization.

I think you might be one of the causes why Android lovers get angry on the internet. I am an iPhone user but have respect for tech in general and enjoy watching these giants try and push the boundaries. When people make elitist comments like yours, it doesn't do either side any good.

I think it's funny because without the iPhone there would be no Android like it is today to be defending. Android was not a touch interface, until 5 mins after SJ revealed iOS LOL.

A high level Apple executive (i forgot his name) left apple for google and thus they made android.

its a complete knock off.

So silly. My mature friends with Android devices never get upset when i get a new iPhone. Maybe because they are MATURE and have more important things in life such as families and jobs and they don't care about the type of phone I own. If you know people like that, either they need to grow up or you need to grow up and find new associates.

Problem is your "mature friends" aren't the ones trolling the internet every time an article on the iPhone is published. They also probably aren't the people Samsung is paying to engage in guerilla marketing against the iPhone. Samsung's CEO has admitted to paying for such antics, so that's a known issue at this point.

Too fervent a hater...

I know. Right?
I had a new dental tech acting like she was interested in my new 6 when I was texting my wife from the chair. After I let her look at it, she pulls a board out of her front pocket and says but can it multitask like mine? And starts going on and on lol
My dentist and long time friend tried to save me from her. Apparently she has strong feelings about lots of different things lol
Her phone was huge. I didn't want to flame her fire by asking what it was but tried to end the confrontation with something like.. Well, it's what we get used to and what WE decide that we need.
I'm afraid to go back. :p

Android users are pretty intense in their hatred against Apple. I can't even read the comments on Engadget anymore these days. For the most part I've stopped even going there.

Yeah, I noticed this too. Lots of anger from android fans on any article Apple related. Yet when I was on android I never noticed nearly as much hatred from Apple fans. They seem much more content to get on with things and not bother android users lol.

To some degree it's human nature to divide up into tribes, and psychology shows that once we've made a decision we tend to see things in ways that support that decision. There is almost as much of this kind of thing going on for video game consoles and cars and just about anything you can name. If it's more pronounced with Android fans it may have something to do with the kind of personality that's strongly drawn to Android (and that actively posts online -- the vast majority of Android users are not "fanboys"). I suppose these would be people who value openness, power (as they perceive it, anyway) and customizability over things like user experience and refinement of the hardware. They can't understand why anyone would accept a phone that seems to do less while cost more, and of course anyone who does buy one must be an idiot or a sheep who has been bamboozled by Apple. When they see millions of iPhones getting sold it must be infuriating, since to them it's obvious that there are better, cheaper options that these poor fools are just too stupid to appreciate.

But of course we don't all value the same things. I have an older Android tablet (Nexus 7) and while it's not a bad piece of hardware, I really never warmed up to Android and have no interest in using it when I can use iOS.

Identification. They are so identified with Android that they take criticism towards "their" OS as a personal attack against themselves as persons. This is a psychological mechanism that often begins with having some insecurity in one's personal emotional life. So you "team up" with something strong, in this case the total number of Android users as a group, backed by a powerful corp like Google - in order to feel stronger and more safe, to feel that one belongs to a strong group. This is a well known survival mechanism.

With iOS being the main competitor to Android, then, Apple is perceived as quite literally the enemy. In extreme cases this grows to actual hate, for those with a particularly strong feeling of insecurity. It's much the same thing as football fans being prepared to use violence against fans of another team, or nationalists wanting to kill citizens of another country based on no rational reason at all. Quite common obviously, and always disturbing at any level.

"Fandroids" hating "iSheep" or vice versa, it's all the same and goes equally both ways. It is at this level that any interesting, constructive discussion in the forums comes to a halt, and petty bickering takes over. The remedy is to notice the anger when it arises, take a moment to look at it and realise that this is after all only about who prefers which phone or OS, and just let it go.

Theres a lot of idiots around.
My iPhone is better than your crappy Android phone
My Xbox One is better than your PS4

Whatever you have, I don't care!! I do not care if you think my phone is crap.It is a piece of plastic/metal and glass.I am not going to get upset that you do not like it.And if I do, please, PLEASE feel free to give me a slap.

Really, if the people saying this are above school age (and even that would be pushing it), then they should be avoided because they obviously have some sort of mental deficiency.

Part of it comes down to justification of choices and a consequence, money spent. And having to justify is rooted in insecurity as well as the constant need to force their will upon others.

Why do Android users LITERALLY GET SO MAD when iPhone users talk about, and use/like Apple products such as iPhones. I mean, they literally get SO MAD when someone likes a iPhone over a Android device. Oh, and NOTHING makes them more livid as when a iPhone user goes to Android, only to go back to iPhone after a couple weeks, month, or whatever it is. There must be a ailment of sorts for this when someone doesn't like what they like. They LITERALLY GET furious at the thought that someone would like a iPhone over Android. This release of the new iPhone has made it even worse with the haters. They are going to any blog, video, and comment sections just to dog the iPhone. They are spending so much time to read all about something (they think) they hate. It's so interesting to me as to why??? Does anyone have a serious explanation?

I have never seen it. In the real world most people have other things to worry about. I can't imagine even getting into a my phone is better than yours argument. I don't know people like that.
