In my day to day life with my phone I don’t use a case, I prefer how the phone feels without a case. When I’m going somewhere on vacation or into nature I’ll put a case on for extra protection. If I break it or if someone bumps into me and it falls out of my hands I know I’m covered with a minimal out of pocket expense. I use my iPhone a lot so being able to get it replaced quickly and cheaply if it breaks or stops working is important to me. I’m planning to keep my 13 Pro Max for at least a couple of years and they are not cheap to repair without Apple Care.

Personally, for me, I think AC+ is a waste of money. And hardly any country other than the U.S. has theft and loss. With that included, I can see the point at least.

I hate cases as well. I like the feel of my devices as they were designed to be - with nice, high-quality materials giving that premium feel. When I pay this much for an Apple product, there’s just no way I’m gonna slap an ugly silicone, or whatever, case on it for that mushy ‘peace of mind’ crap. It’s a consumer product with a limited lifespan. A few tiny scratches here and there don’t bother me. I handle my things with care, but I don’t treat them like porcelain dolls either.

I’m also the kind of person who avoids almost any form of insurance. I put that money in the bank or invest it, and then use it whenever I need to. Life is too short to worry about all that **** dude… Anywho, yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, my opinion, man ?

I agree insurance just helps the company to earn more money in general except for people always get sick.

I buy AppleCare to be on the safe side knowing that I am covered even if my phone has issues

It's a great investment especially for high end MacBooks and iPhones etc,

Pay few years of Apple Care then nothing happen at all? LOL
Uh....... like 8 years of paying? Most people don't keep their iPhones that long. The majority of them that I know change out each time a new version comes out.
So, yes, it does actually make sense in that case. I know quite a few people that have utilized insurance (either Apple Care or Assurion) within 2 years of owning a device due to either loss or damage. I'd MUCH rather pay $100-$200 for an "aw ****" in that 2 year period than having to go out and buy a new device.
If you plan on keeping the device for 6+ years, then no, it doesn't make sense if you will RELIGIOUSLY set money aside monthly for a possible replacement (and how realistic is that?).

Like other millennials I can’t afford an unexpected expense of $400 for a new display (canada with taxes) or $750 for a new phone if it breaks. I can afford $13 a month for Apple Care and $39/$129 should something happen.

I 100% agree with this. I would rather save that money I would’ve spent at full price.

I don’t. I get a good case and have my phone on my home contents insurance in the unlikely event I smash the phone or it gets nicked. Don’t see the point in additional insurance on top of insurance I already have to be honest. It’s just yet another fee to give to Apple IMO.

It's the same with a lot of insurance. We have cats and have never had pet insurance. In 30 years, we've paid out a little over £1,000 which would've been covered.I shudder to think how much we would've paid out in insurance premiums!

As for phones, they've always been covered by home insurance as far as accidental damage is concerned. My wife dropped hers into a bucket of water and had a new one sent out the next day (£100 excess). I had an iPhone that failed at 2 years old. Took it to a genius bar and they replaced it there and then.

You pay your money, you take your choice.

Well said .

You can exchange a new one just because of scratch?
This was a deep scratch that you could feel and see even when the display was on - and it was right in the middle of the display. I was surprised too because I think I selected display cosmetic issue or something. They didn't ask for any picture (though I put a sticky note in the return package with a small drawing because I'm crazy and wanted to help them see it).

Never got messaged or pushback. They simply sent me a new one.

I have never purchased Apple Care which is why my iPad Mini 5 looks like this -

I’ve had this thing bounce off the floor many times but never a scratch or any cracks due to the rubber bumpers and shock resistance.

Not everyone wants their sleek iPads looking like a rugged tablet from a construction yard though. I don’t mind as the piece of mind is relieving as this thing is basically indestructible whilst within the Otterbox case.

Yeah, but AppleCare covers against hardware defects as well. So if your home button decides to give out one day or part of the display becomes unresponsive, you have to pay out of pocket if you're outside the device's original limited warranty period.

With screen protector and case, hard to imagine the chance to use Apple Care. If you really use it naked, I don’t think Apple Care let you get a new phone just because there are scratches. Then who should pay for Apple Care while the phone value drops so fast anyway?
Because screen protectors and cases aren't perfect. The phone can also have kernel panics and have battery longevity issues that don't show up later in life. While MOST of my iPhones have been perfect, my wife and I have gotten our $s worth out of AppleCare+ many times over. Between getting replacement phones, new batteries, and glass fixes - we're very happy with AppleCare+.

I had a 6+ that red-screened (kernel panicked) - was replaced on the spot, no questions asked, within 5 mins of walking into the store. My wife had a battery go bad and the phone was replaced on the spot. My wife recently sent her phone flying (with a screen protector and case) into a cement floor. We didn't see it at first but in the sun-light her screen had cracked - Was like a $10 replacement fee. They ended up "destroying" her phone in the glass replacement process and she got a new phone anyway.

AppleCare+ is a peace of mind - knowing that if I accidentally make my phone inoperable or the phone has some flaw within 2 years, I'll be able to walk into an Apple Store and walk out (historically) with a new phone within 5 mins - same day. I've seen the iPhones of family members who have had their phones repaired at mall stores - yeah, no thank you.

I guess I have been lucky having never experienced a defect with an Apple product. Even my iPad Mini 4 from ‘15 runs perfectly and I have been using it solidly since the day I bought it. Genuinely haven’t had any lemons since purchasing Apple products in 2012. I have saved a lot of money not purchasing Apple Care… the iPhone and iPad line are solid so I don’t think there’s much chance of coming across a defect once the warranty has expired. I would consider it if I purchased a computer such as a MacBook Pro, though.

I can see this and agree with it. Especially 2012'ish when things were a bit cheaper. Now days, with phones reaching $1.6k and iPads that I want north of $1.5k - AppleCare+ is a must for me for that reason alone (just like you said - it's a must on my MBPs).

Agree with the above.
I use a case and screen protector, yet I still get AppleCare on my iPhone, as I do on my MacBooks too - these devices are not cheap and I want the reassurance knowing should any fail they will be fixed with minimal, or no, extra cost to me....

If that happens within 2 years then Apple usually replace the device anyway whether you have AC or not. Outside of that I would say it’s rare. The last Apple device that failed on me was my Series 5 Apple Watch and that was replaced for free. Before that was an iPhone 5 back in 2013 and the same replacement process. If it works for others then fine, but most people are already insured if they own or rent properties.
