Can you be any more over-dramatic and exaggerative?

(yes, exaggerative is a word)

Don't forget, you can't burn CDs or create Podcasts without a Sueprdrive either, nor can you use your iPod or Airport Express device. And don't even think of ordering one of those fancy iPhoto Books or editing and applying effects to your photos. Connect your audio keyboard and create music with Garage Band? You can just forget about that without a Superdrive. Don't even think of watching DVD movies or maintaining a blog with iWeb either, or buying music, TV shows, and Movies with iTunes. Just forget about having all the above mentioned programs work seamlessly together. Without a Superdrive, none of this is possible, especially not right out of the box. It makes so much sense to buy a Dell instead.

I loves me some™ MacRumours irony.:p

Most people don't use Bluetooth. And that is certainly less important to the whole iLife marketing campaign than the ability to put your newly-edited movies onto a format that Auntie Mavis can watch.

Hmm you are right.

I never used bluetooth, but I burn way more DVDs in the meantime.

*gasp* Apple just wants to sell you a $100 more expensive Mac with the inclusion of a $10 more expensive drive. Apple is not a charity... so... like they always say.... we just have to **** it up.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I have actually tried a DVD burner in a MacBook and it was ludicrously slow-I'd much rather not get one, upgrade my RAM and HD and buy a faster, external one later (which I intend to).

It has nothing to do with the fact that DVD drives do not work well on Macs.

It is everything to do with the fact that even after you shelled out extra for needless things just to get a DVD burner, Apple doesn't even have the courtesy to put in a $5 more expensive drive that'd work much better.

Making statements like "oh, even the offerings from Apple sucks anyway, I rather not get that option outright" is... geez, I don't know, sounds like someone's in a state of total denial to me.

The right answer is "Apple's options outright sucks, and by association, Apple kinda sucks".

Hmm, when i bought my powerbook it was the top model and the default config had a DVD burner, I BTO it with the top graphics option (i think that was it, too long ago) and while i was at it down graded the optical to a DVD reader CD burner to help offset the cost, i've never regretted it

Also, i recently inherited a G5 with a DVD burner, and a while ago built my current PC up with a DVD burner (as it was cheap) and i've only burnt one DVD, that was purely because i'd run out of CDRs and had a DVDR that came free with something...

However, as long as it's optional, or so cheap it doesn't matter (as many people need/want DVD burners), much like the gloss screen on the MBP, everyones happy, so long as they read the specs of course ;)

If Apple offered 50 options the threads here would be moaning about how it's too difficult for grandma to decide between all the various options.

If there were no combo drives people would point to that as why Mac's are too expensive.

Sheesh. Apple can't catch a break with you guys.

And I found a phone with a cord on it in Staples! Why are they selling that? I'm going to get me a can of gasoline and burn it all down!!!

Actually Apple does have like 50+ options once you include all the different configurations. But what this thread should be about it why doesn't the OP just go solve his sister's problem instead of just posting.
