Each version of the OS has it's characteristics, crashing of Apps in iOS 7 is not unusual nor a sign of a buggy OS. It is what it is, plus Apple tends to choose creating new operating systems rather than refining them.

If you're stuck with iOS 7, the good news is Apple will be promoting iOS 8 before long anyway. Good or bad at least it'll be different. Nothing stays the same.

and I bet you had few third party crap apps running in the background ;)
And even if someone did, how does that explain the whole OS crashing? So what if an app crashes, why should that make the OS respring? It would only do so if there is an issue on OS level not being able to handle various app crashes or states, which cetainly means that the OS has problems (in addition to perhaps apps crashing and whatnot, which most cetainly shouldn't crash the OS).

I will not try to argue about it and try to explain.
People don't listen anyway, so what's the point...
All I know is that both my iPad Air and iPhone 5s are running flawlessly under iOS 7.1.

I noticed thursday my iPhone spontaneously restarted. First time in years, I was only listening to pandora. I've been rocking with Pandora and on 7.0.3, since this was the only crash in memory I'll not say it crashes so much.

My opinion is that its quite stable.

I'm going to amend my initial post, as my wife and I have incurred a few more crashes. She has a big problem with safari crashing and I've incurred a handful of more full phone and iPad reboots. I was just using my iPad yesterday and it rebooted itself for no reason.

Your wife is probably (like all women) using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others, all of these apps have issues with iOS 7 and are known to crash the entire operating system.

She's rebooted the phone and gone into safari and it crashes, though the rest of your post is spot on :p

Weird stuff :D

Never had a device (iPhone 5s) that crashed so much. Apps crash constantly and once every couple of weeks the entire phone crashes and goes to white boot logo.

I should of kept my iPhone 5. But not sure if its the phone or the ios. Ugh I'm just venting. Is there going to be a fix for this?

Why didn't you get the iPhone 5c? That one doesn't crash.

It must be because of the 64 bits.

And on what planet is it seen as normal to have the whole OS crash and restart when an app crashes? People would absolutely see no issues if whenever they would launch an app on their OS X or Windows computer that their whole computer would have to restart, right? That would be seen as an app issue and not an OS issue? And there you go.

Because the 5S isn't?

yeah iOS 7 is unstable. it crashed a lot and it pisses me off, this is the reason I've avoided android. Mine as well just get an andriod now and have the added benefit of screen size and nfc. ok iphone.

I have the 5s and I'm having none of the issues you've mentioned.

The "every couple of weeks the entire phone crashes and goes to white boot logo" sounds like your iPhone is the cause of the crashes and reboots.

Have a look in Settings/general/about/ diagnostic & usage/diagnostic & usage data. Have a look for any entries in there that are called PANIC.PLIST.

If you have any of these, these can be an indication that your iPhone has a hardware issue. If you have any PANIC.PLIST entries, I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store with a view to getting your iPhone replaced.

Because desktop and mobile OS's are totally the same thing.

You have a point there too...mobile OSs that are used more frequently and by more people are expected and generally designed to be even more robust when it comes to things of that nature. So, yeah, makes it even worse that simple application crashes would bring down the whole OS (especially one that is designed to be and is usually presented to be as extremely stable, like iOS).

Here are my diagnostics:

A LOT of crashes and low memory warnings. Air on 7.0.4.

I'd highly suggest you avoid Android, you'll be sad that it's so smooth and rarely ever crashes. Nor does it act as erratic as iOS. It's not like Android of just a short while ago. I never thought I'd say that, but after being so annoyed by iOS 7, I was ready to try anything. Android 4.2 or newer is the best Smartphone to date for all of my needs.

My Nexus 4 is on 4.3 and I have this annoying problem where the phone would drain down to 50-60% in just 20 minutes after unplugging. It happened three different times last week and I have no idea how many times it's happened in the last year.

It's made me buy a 5S two weeks ago because honestly, since the original iPhone, I've never had the problems that I have had on my Nexus 4 and 7.
