If I buy an iphone do I have to update to iOS 15 or I can continue using iOS 14 without a problem?

Thanks!

You can keep it on iOS 14 if you wish. Apps will likely support that system for a few years. I also wouldn’t give too much thought about unsubstantiated forum noise claiming that every update makes things worse. That’s just nonsense.

It’s not like Microsoft and Google are Saints but I actually feel more comfortable with them.
Apple gets away with most stuff because it’s treated more like a religion and people always commenting “my phone is running great, get a replacement”.
Then use MS and Google. No one is holding you hostage. And my phone IS running fine.

I mean seriously. Sure there is a thread about this here and there but no news site reports this or any reviewer.

My iPhone 13 pro max AND my M1 iPad stutter very often when scrolling. Even in safari. How has this not been solved yet?
Late to the party with this thread, but don't see poor performance as I define it on my m1 ipad, xs max or xr. If poor performance is only about stuttering, our devices do not stutter any more under ios 15 than ios 14. (Yes, there is an occasional stutter here and there)

Isn’t it not common sense anymore that new features added in the new iOS versions would be more taxing on the older processors than the latest generation?
I can’t speak to how much of an impact they’d have on each older model but it’s basic sense that newer processors are more powerful and efficient at the same time. This would lead to better experience on the latest devices no doubt. Granted, Apple could optimize each and every new iOS/iPadOS to work almost as well on the older devices given enough resources but in the end it’s still a corporation and you have to strike a balance between profits and customer satisfaction. And this is where they draw the line apparently. Years of software updates but not enough optimization.

FWIW, my iPhone 6S seems to run better than ever with iOS 15. Have you tried a completely clean install?

I think Apple has optimized iOS 15 for older devices. My 6S is very usable with iOS 15 even though it is 6.5 years old, which is an eternity in the world of smartphones. Obviously, many of the apps demanding a lot of CPU/graphics processing don't run great, which is to be expected, but if we are talking about things like messaging, pictures, web browsing, standard res video streaming, shopping apps, etc., it's as usable as it has ever been.

Grown up talk right there....

That's great but doesn't change anything about the touchscreen problems that every iPhone 13/Pro/Pro Max I tried had.
Nothing is speaking for a hardware issue, unless apple managed to have a 80% failure rate.
App store descriptions are lagging and downloaded pdf files too but it's not as bad as the touchscreen.

And yet I don't see those issues on an older XS max, at least not the App Store stuff (I don't read PDFs on my phone, they're a bad fit). I just browsed the App Store and things popped up more or less instantly (within a fraction of a second). Aside from being on a slow internet connection, I don't see why a 13 would see any noticeable lag. So we're back to the standard recommendations for troubleshooting - do a clean install, check this stuff on that. And by clean install I don't mean restore a backup but an install from scratch.

If the performance issue still happens, check internet speeds. You shouldn't need much for App Store browsing of course, but I'd still check speed, ping, etc.

But drop the silly crap about treating Apple as a religion. That's nothing more than cheap trolling. And yes, it IS adult to say "look, if you're that dissatisfied with Apple or you like other stuff that much better, then just use the other stuff." But some of you seem to get off on frequenting Apple forums and whining. Why is a mystery to me. I dislike Windows, but I don't go to Windows forums and bitch about it.

Is your only reason for being here is to complain at every opportunity? If I was as unhappy as you are with Apple, I would sell all the Apple gear I bought and purchase from another company. I certainly would not constantly complain on a open forum. You just sound angry and are lashing out, like a child, when someone disagrees with you. All you are doing trolling.

Life is too short to be constantly unhappy about something. Go do something more constructive with your time.

That is the first instance that I have encountered that my 13 Pro Max has lagged. That is pretty bad lagging. Honestly, that is the first real lagging issue I have experienced in iOS 15.2.

I went ahead and reported it to Apple Feedback. Anyone who is encountering issues like this make sure to open a case with Apple Support or report it to Apple Feedback.
I am opened a new project in iMovie and preparing video with all performance issues. It's hard because some issues are random and my business phone recording in 30FPS.

Everyone that encounters an issue should be reporting it back to Apple. I have had some very frustrating issues, in the past, and I have let Apple know in no certain terms about it. Usually, I open a case.

I reported that two times and after that Apple tag the case as resolved at 15.2. I added more information and url to the app.
I also reported it by sending a link to the app you posted. That is a case of horrible lagging. I opened a case with Apple about the screen registration issue. Not fixed in 15.2. Going to call Apple again about that issue.

EDIT: I spoke with a senior advisor. There is already some reports of the lag issue in the App Store for the app you posted. It was reported for iPhone 13, iPhone 11 Pro and iPad.

I also, refreshed a case I had opened for the touch registration issue I report in 15.1.1.

Very well said. In real life if I’m not happy with company A I buy a competitor’s product from company B. I don’t seek out forums if products I don’t use anymore to complain dozens of times if I’m not committed to said products.

Yeah I am angrier than I should be.
I’m new to this and since Apple didn’t even address a bug that is months old, it feels like it’s not getting fixed soon with the “it’s fine comments”.
But seeing people actually report it like you, makes it better. If I know it’s getting addressed, I’m good.

I just switched to iOS because the last good android phone series stopped producing compact phones.
I’m trying to understand why iOS does so many things differently but often it doesn’t make much sense and I’m asking myself why no one is saying anything.
I mean maybe we could have an organized photos app, a dnd mode that actually hides all messages, battery stats that shows usage after last charge if this community would gather and send feedback to Apple.
Maybe you already tried that, I don’t know.
These community’s are here to talk about those things. It’s not about telling everyone how great his phone is running.

The “community” here has a large contingency of trolls who will criticize absolutely anything Apple does because they think it helps Android and/or Windows somehow. Those of us who have been around a while just don’t care for the complaining and are tired of litigating every single little product decision Apple makes.

If there are this many dealbreaker problems for you in iOS, the simplest solution is to just not use iOS. Conversely, the silliest solution would be to stay on iOS and then expect random people on an Apple-centric message board to just indulge all your nitpicking.

Someone who’s never heard of Apple would see this forum and probably think they’re a struggling company who has released dud product after dud product since the 70s and are simply coasting on the fumes of their mercurial founder. This of course couldn’t be further from the truth, but it’s the narrative that keeps the complaining alive to this day. Fortunately it’s sounding more and more ridiculous every passing year and people are starting to look for other companies to unload on (sometimes).

iOS 15 was a significant performance IMPROVEMENT for me on my SE 2020.

Ditto for monterey on my Macs, other than the memory leaks. 14 for me however was a bit of a cluster...

Yeah I think the internet needs to keep in mind that the users on this forum are some of the most vocal and unreasonable critics on the planet when it comes to what Apple put out.

Things that would be a total pass on PCs costing as much or more are the next "-gate".

Butterfly keyboards excepted - they were real pieces of garbage.
