Performance on ios 15.x has definitely been worse for me than with 14.8.1. It's slower. Apps crash. The phone crashes. It takes far longer to open apps. Safari pages take longer to open. And more.

I would go back to 14 if I could.
So.... whenever I see people say things like this, I want to tell them (so I'll tell you) - this isn't typical. If you have a fairly recent phone (X or newer), you definitely should not be seeing this. If you have a 6s... devices at the very end of life can be pretty slow on the newest OS.

But presuming you have a reasonably new device (8 or X or newer), this simply isn't the norm. So, do these things:

1) hit the App Store, make sure all of your apps are updated.
2) If they are, wipe your phone and do a clean install (yes, I know... it's a hassle. But if you want to fix this, it's a necessary step). I assume you do iCloud backup but at any rate, make sure things are backed up somehow.
3) If it's still happening, it's likely a hardware issue, not software. Hit up the Apple store for an appointment and have them diagnose it.

It is a clean install on a brand new warranty replacement iPhone 7. All apps are up to date.

You can refer to:

for the background info.

The old phone was on 14.8.1. It worked well, until it needed to be replaced under warranty.

The new one, on 15.1 perforce then on 15.2, has issues.

Hmm. The 7 is getting a little long in the tooth but it's well inside the supported device list. If it's still crashing etc, I'd push Apple on that since it sounds like a hardware thing.

My point (aside from making a few suggestions) is that 15 isn't generally crashing phones etc. So when I hear that someone is having really serious issues like this my old tech support instincts kick in and I think of what it could be in that person's setup that's different.

I appreciate the thought.

Here's an example. In News with my previous iPhone 7 under 14.8.1, when I would click on an article, it would open. Now, with this iPhone 7 under 15.2, it can take 20 seconds to open. I just did so, and timed it--twenty seconds. This is with house wi-fi with a strong signal. The person sitting next to me, using an iPhone 8 on 14.8.1, had the article open almost immediately.

I had intended to upgrade to a 13 Pro this fall when it came out. Instead, I've been waiting for iOS 15 to stabilize first. Maybe I'll place the order this week, with the thought that 15.3 will come out before it arrives....

I mean seriously. Sure there is a thread about this here and there but no news site reports this or any reviewer.

My iPhone 13 pro max AND my M1 iPad stutter very often when scrolling. Even in safari. How has this not been solved yet?

No news site is reporting this because the issue is not widespread, me thinks. Just DFU the iPhone and don’t restore from backup. See if that helps.

It is unfortunate that there are people starting threads and it appears that they are only interested in using the thread as a soap box to complain.

It could be as simple as doing a backup, doing a Recovery Mode Update and Restore, setup as new. Test out as new device and determine if the issue is iOS. Could then Erase All Contents, restore from backup. Problem returns after backup restore, the issue is within the backup. Takes some time but can narrow down where the issue exists. I won’t discount iOS as the issue.

They might think a new thread is more likely to get attention and hopefully quicker resolution ? I don’t know, I rarely start new threads for a simple thing.. that tendency of mine sometimes makes me post off-topic if I only have one or two queries!

I really don’t understand the angry, venting threads like this one.

I have a 13 Pro and M1 iPad Pro and very stable and not glitchy for me. I’m not saying you aren’t having issues. Just saying, we essentially have the same hardware and I’m not having an issue with scrolling or glitching.

it makes me crazy when I scroll to the first springboard page and the animation lags behind. By the time I click an icon it presses the one from the wrong page.

Good thinking in my opinion. Try a fresh system and no backup to get as close to a fresh start as possible and rule out any additional factors.

I have iPhone 13 mini. Arrived a week ago. Two apps in particular freeze and luckily can still swipe up and close. But today had to restart - again - to get back control. Tumblr, figured it was their app and recent updates. Lightroom, it’s dealing with 50k photo library but it happened earlier before I imported the last 20k.

Never in 9 years have I had trouble with iOS. Until now.
Joined beta so I could try 15.3.

Does not happen on Android Duo. Nor on desktop and laptop running Windows and Mac.

I’ve always thought Apple sets itself up putting out new devices and OS, but then I see Samsung will test in the fall and bring out its new flagship Galaxy phones in January- and usually see a major update to OS around March.

I have to agree with the OP to an extent. There are some bugs here and there like: Stuttering in Safari, Instagram crashing when watching too many Instagram Reels ? But nothing too annoying that has stopped me from doing a task. Since I am WFH, I heavily rely on Microsoft apps and they work really well for me on my iPhone. The issues in performance are minor for me, a quick restart or hard reset does the job.

When apps crash, do they leave corrupt files behind, that could trigger another crash?

That sounds a lot like what happened to my iPad mini 2 when I upgraded to the last supported iOS version (12, I think?). It was a little slower the last couple of updates but the very last one killed performance.

I think 15 would be fine on a newer iPhone for you. I have it on a XS Max and an article in News opens in about 1 second. That said, the 7 shouldn't have dropped performance THAT drastically. If you want to keep it for a while longer I'd push Apple on it.

I've had extremely slow scrolling and animations on the new iPad mini on ios15. Perceived 20or so fps instead of 60. I couldn't even focus enough on the crooked scrolling with all the slow animations of opening/closing/multitasking between apps.
Thankfully ios15.2 fixed that 90%. It still seems slower than an Air on ios14, but not crazily so. I'd say a perceived 50fps instead of 60.

In my family we are using iOS 15 / iPadOS 15 on a great variety of devices: iPad 2021, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 13 Pro and iPad Pro M1.
no one is experiencing what you are saying here ??‍♂️

I upgraded my X to 13 Pro a couple months ago and have to say am not very impressed with performance. From the beginning safari has been jittery and still is. I can't tell any improvement with promotion, most of the time it actually feels like it's adding a burden to the processor. In general the phone feels just as slow as my x did towards the end, maybe slightly better. I was hoping for more 'horsepower' and faster load times / processing speed as this has had several years of improvement over the X.

Was the 13 setup as new?

So let's get real. Here's a video of how 15.2 works on my XS Max. All I'm doing it scrolling up and down and opening things in News and Safari. This seems fine to me.

PS: If you have crappy internet so the stream lags, that's not the phone obviously

I don’t have performance issues, but things keep becoming less and less intuitive. They keep changing things, for the worse, for no reason.

Been using ios15 for about a month. I came to iPhone when the 13 was released. I came from the s21 and my experience is good. Small bugs here and there but other than that, performance is fine. And I’m constantly playing pubg and codM.

i forgot if i posted here, but we realize just now how we are at the mercy of .
unless they make mojave iOS for 2022.
i did not upgrade to 15.2 yet, and wont

Wait 1 year and performance will be horrible thanks to Apple's custom-designed malware.
