It's no surprise that Walmart/Sams Club will not accept ApplePay. After the Target fiasco Walmart has built their card acceptance around the upcoming EMV (chip) cards. Check out the terminals in Walmart and Sams: they allow for a chip card to be inserted at the bottom of the front panel. EMV chip cards are more secure than a traditional debit or credit card and has a chip that has a ever-changing value which makes duplicating it very difficult.

Many places accept those credit cards with chips.
But not every credit card company even uses those.
Small percent of credit card companies insert those chips on all their cards and even though they are more secure than regular cards they are not as secure as Applepay.

And you know what's even worst is their currentC system wont be up and running for another year. So they are just trying to slow this down in order for their payment method to have better chances.
And their method gives no added benefits to customers besides making it cheaper for walmart and others to process payments by circumventing credit cards companies all together and getting their money directly from banks instead.
So this QR code-based payment form will make it less safe and harder for customers to dispute fraudulent and other faulty transactions and give no gain to the consumer besides saving the retailer money on fees.
And why would anyone want to use that instead?

why don't apple clear this on WWDC keynote , why they don't say applepay should be ready 2016 for all store .......

tim cook so promise ,,, and now what ... 10 of 100 store ......

Apple Pay is ready. But Apple has no control over how fast retailers implement it. And not all retailers are going to implement it at all.

If it annoys you so much, just go back to credit cards.

Not to their advantage to support

:apple:Pay

Apple does not keep nor track user metrics that the in-house systems currently grab, that is after all what a user rewards system is all about.

:apple:Pay is too secure, to private for them. I think that is it in a nutshell.

Then promote the rewards card more. I'll gladly use a rewards card plus Apple Pay like I do at Walgreens. You still get my purchase data through the rewards card and my payments are secure.

No difference mining a rewards card vs. my credit card.

There is nothing wrong with Walmart! Hating them for not wanting to use Apple Pay is stupid!

I am actually a field manager for Wal-Mart. We love NFC in fact we've been using it for some time to track our inventory, it can be daunting to keep track of 9 million dollars worth of merchandize in each store. As others have said Apple Pay competes with other forms of payment Wal-Mart has invested in. Some test stores are testing out NFC readers at each entrance and all the customer has to do is select what they want and leave, never having to go through a checkout line. Eventually if Apply Pay becomes big enough the store will have to adopt.

This + ApplePay would be REALLY cool. Pile stuff in your cart and tap your iPhone on a Verifone reader mounted at the door on the way out. A door greeter can watch to make sure people tap their phones or pay a special terminal cash. Walmart cashiers can work the sales floor where they're really needed (when I worked electronics we really needed the people), and Department Managers can be worked a little less. Of course in a perfect world.

Or even bring in-app Apple Pay with Scan & Go and I would be happy. Walmart was a leader in mobile tech and it's sad to see them go MCX.

Retail will change significantly within the next decade. Customers no longer want to shop in large stores or have a outrageous selection anymore. Apple Pay will benefit from this greatly, customer want to shop online pick it up in the store and leave I.E Wal-Mart express store's and pick up today. I dont believe Apple Pay will take off immediately in brick and mortar stores but it will online.

It will be interesting to see how Target manages returns with this.

Currently, if you don't have your receipt, and make a return to Target, you can give them the card you used to buy the item, and they'll look up the receipt. This is a great help and convenience at times.

Given the way Apple Pay works with a token, I think this functionality will not work any longer.

You can still look up the purchase with the device account number. The CVV is what changes

There is a lot wrong with Walmart. I don't buy anything from them at all.

There is so much wrong with Walmart.

I am no lover of Walmart and shop there maybe once a year. But I also see them as one of America's largest retailers that DO save people a good bit of money.

People hate Walmart and other big companies because they do not believe in free enterprise. Without it there would be no Apple.

Walmart treats their employees poorly? People are commiting suicide making your iphones and have to be fenced in to prevent escape!
