That seems crazy.

So let's say, hypothetically, that Apple comes out with iOS 8 this year and iOS 8 lacks an app store, safari web browser, and text messing app. You're telling me it would be ok for Apple to do this because they can?

That would be a stupid thing for Apple to do, and they would lose lots of customers. Doing stupid things is not illegal. Not that Apple would do that, because they don't tend to do stupid things. But if they produce something that you don't like, then don't buy it and don't install it.

But if you have something that you like, like an iPhone 4 with iOS 6, and then due to Apple's fault there's a gaping security hole that they finally fix but to get the fix you have to change completely what you like and go with iOS 7 that you don't want, or live with the security issue, all due to a problem that Apple themselves created, what then? Not that much of a choice really at that point (technically it might be one, but realistically it's silly to think of it as much of a choice).
