Hmmmm - now my drive can also stand for SUPERslow.

Not to take this thread off in a totally different direction but last week I upgraded to Toast 8 b/c I got tired of waiting for Roxio to issue an update for Toast 7 to run with Leopard.

Over the last couple of days I've been using Toast 8 in both of my Superdrives with +R DL Memorex discs (that are rated at 8x) and I can't seem to get burn speeds any greater than 3x according to the UI. I usually set speed to "Best" but I gotta tell you, waiting for 7-8gigs to burn at this speed is about as exciting as watching paint dry!

And from my MacPro

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D:

Firmware Revision: 1.29
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

So this threads Myth has been well and trully dispelled by now eh! :p;):D

For my 2 cents.

My MP that I got in 9/06 came with a Pioneer DVR-111D. Not too much after that I picked up a second one through some cheap place I found on Pricewatch.com.

I do a tremendous amount of burning and have had 0 problems with either drive although I know both only support DL +R. I have used both Ritek and am currently working my way through a 25-pack of memorex. The problem is that the pioneer drives support fast burning speeds for DL discs...I think 10x. So, I like finding 8x DL discs if I can. It makes a HUGE difference between the 2.4x and 8x discs when burning off a full disc's worth of data.

Err look above. Mine supports -R DL

I bought my Mac Pro in April 07 and it burns DL+R and DL-R out of the box.
no mods, no flashing, no windows.
it came with an "Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A"
I've burnt about 35 xbox 360 backups on it, all of them on Verbatim DVD+R DL Disks
*shrug*
