Yeah one thing that is disappointing is it just freezes the app instead of continuously running it in the background. So when you go back to the app, it needs to queue any videos again.

Is this something even possible with the iPhone 6/6+? I'm tempted to return my phone for the Galaxy Note 4 but would prefer not to if split screen multitasking is planned in a future iOS version.

I dont find it useless. ill probably miss this when my 6+ comes. two web browsers concurrently? useful on a PC, useful on a big phone.

There are apps that do this. I have split browser which works

Update: holy...didn't know that app was no longer available. Have it in my first gen ipad(old bus still works)

There are a number of apps that do this, although personally I find split-screen multitasking to be much more viable on a tablet. I wouldn't say no to the capability on the phone either, but I'm also not desperate for it.

"Only Apple can introduce such a seamless and smooth split-screen experience, making iOS9 the most advanced operating system in the world and the iPhone 6s the most powerful iPhone we've ever released!"

This is awesome. Lol.

Video pane

Thank you. I looked into video pane this week but I thought it was only for youtube videos. I will now read up some more on it.

there was actually an ipad jailbreak tweak back in the ipad3 days where u could multi screen. it was kind of buggy but when it worked it worked well. you could resize the windows and everything.

:) you learn something new everyday.

Because our phones are toooo small . I tried it on android and it sucked big time , most apps were not compatible , and the ones that were could not get enough screen real estate to justify split screen .

I never used it, slows phone down also , it's just a gimmick and nothing more on small devices , I think I even have the capability on my Samsung note tab and never use it on that also.

Just switching beteen apps is perfect.

Why don't we get split screen multitask so half could be like internet and half messenger or whatever? Android has it and has for a long time, even iPad doesn't have it which i really thought it would.

It's not an Android thing. It's a Samsung/LG thing.

Switching between apps when you are following a chat session in whatsapp or imessage is a pain.

With a multi window I can follow a conversation while doing other stuff with ease.

I find multi-window clunky and cramped when on anything less than a large tablet or a laptop. I currently have it on my Samsung GS3 and I never use it. I'm considering a switch to iPhone and lack of split screen capability is not on my radar at all.

You have a device thats almost 3 years old. Anything that old will lag and be slow besides multi window isn't intended for the GS3 (I own one) unless you hacked it it some way. Multi window on a Note 4 works seamlessly and yes it would be a desirable feature on a 6 Plus because of the screen size.

Those claiming it is perfect without multitasking remind me of a conversation I had when I lived in Texas for a while.

Friend: Texas is the greatest place to live in the world.
Me: Really? Where have you travelled outside of Texas?
Friend: Why would I travel outside of Texas? ? I just said it is the greatest place in the world.

then we'll soon see threads about the crappy battery life. can't please em all.

Good example. I love my Apple products but also love other platforms and devices. Those of us who have tried other platforms know how much Apple still lacks in features and see plenty of room for improvement. Those that put blinders on, don't like and need features they never had or know absolutely nothing about. Don't knock it till you tried it.

Which jailbreak tweak can do this? Thanks in advance for the info.

VideoPane - Made by one of (if not the) best jailbreak tweak developers, Ryan Petrich. Can put any video that uses the native codec to play into a moveable/resizeable window that goes on top of the App/Springboard. The only downside to this for me is that it only works with the native video player - so any third part apps/videos that don't play in the 'videos app' won't work :( - So Youtube generally works great, but say any common MKV with AC3 audio will not play correctly.

Quasar - No longer supported as of ios 6, was the multi-tasking tweak for iPad running ios 5. Launched apps in resizeable/moveable windows. Was buggy but some got it to work great.

OS Experience - The new multi-tasking tweak for the iPad running ios 7. Had a lot of promise. Unfortunately very buggy and the developer 'lost motivation' to work on it. The issue with it for me, is it tried to do more than just resizeable/moveable apps - it tried to achieve other complicated things by adding more 'Mac OS' features - such as launchpad / multiple desktops. May or may not be updated when the iOS 8 jailbreak comes out.

WindowPane (official name unknown) - An upcoming tweak, teased by Ryan Petrich that will allow apps to run in windows similar to 'VideoPane'. Development on this is supposedly still ongoing (ignore the comments on youtube, it is not dead - confirmed multiple times by the developer via email), the dev is known for his 'perfectionism' so if this ever gets released it should be very good. The preview is on youtube here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2YLbhPrXJM). This is definitely a tweak to look out for in ios 8.

Knowing Apple this will be a big feature they will advertise for the 6+ 2 #

I'm thinking it will be 8.2 big feature.

8.1 big feature is Apple Pay
8.2 -- Split screen? Around the same time they announced the 12" iPad Pro -- makes perfect sense.

Maybe they will hold a small event in February to announced the 12" iPad, new Apple TV and talk in my depth about the Apple Watch.

Eh. Who knows...

Split screen is not a pure Android feature. It is a TouchWiz feature. I have a pure Android HTC One and it did not have split screen. Hell, it did not even have lock screen notification. I had to use Nils for that which a clunky alternative.

My GS3 doesn't lag. It's stock/rooted. I didn't like multi window on the Note 2 either. I still thought it was clunky and cramped. I realize this is just my personal opinion, and I just chimed in to share it.

Because its Apple. I remember the 3G did not have copy and paste. Every phone back in 2008 had copy and paste but not the iPhone.

I also remember reading in here of the Apple lovers who said copy and paste is not important on a phone. LOL.

Those Apple lovers will say anything to defend there precious purchase. Been a reader here since 2006 ish.

Android does NOT have split screen multitask.

Is it in android L? NO
Is it in KitKat? NO NO NO
Is it in Jelly bean? HELL NO

Where is it? It is on SOME skins and overlays, and commonly associated with Samsung phones featuring Touchwiz.

Not just any Android device, either. You'll need a Samsung device. And the split screen is not supported in all apps, just specific ones that make use of Samsung's specific API.

Not true the LG G3 has this its called multi-view and custom ROMs can make it work with every app.
