Only Apple knows if the watch is a success or not by whatever internal metrics they use to determine that. They won't truthfully tell us directly but if they keep selling it they likely consider it a success. It is limited to being a peripheral to the iPhone which reduces its overall appeal.

For a Watch with similar pricing, the Apple Watch sold ok this far. However, where I live, you can get a GPS Casio watch for 20 percent of the apples price,
Or a swatch 007 edition at about 10 percent of what the Apple Watch will cost you.

i think it's a pretty pointless product , not very well thought out or designed and a perfect example of pipe line timmy and his utter lack of creativity , vision and taste

in the old days everything had to be sieved through jobs' laser like focus on usability and excellent taste , cook clearly hasn't got a clue and just fields it all out to jony etc

his only interest is in how much profit he can make and where to source the cheapest components

look at the mac pro - do you think steve would have allowed that joke out of the labs ?

And none of them can do even a tenth of what the Apple Watch can let me do.

You get what you pay for.

To me, I interpret your post is nothing more to throw jabs at Apple, Tim Cook and Jony Ive, all the while labeling the Apple Watch "Pointless" in an Apple Watch forum, which I am assuming you have never even used an Apple Watch?

My question in return for you, is if the Apple Watch is pointless as you claim and you see no need for one, then what draws your attention to an Apple Watch forum? Because it appears you are intentionally disparaging against the Apple Watch/Apple using terms like "Pipeline", "Lack of vision", "Cheap". And then you want to compare the Mac Pro?

And your definition of pointless may not be shared by other forum members, who view the Apple Watch as not necessarily as a necessity, but more as a convenience factor for fitness and notifications.

I believe you came to this forum with the intent of hating on Apple in general, especially in the fact that you have zero interest in an Apple Watch and your Post is a direct reflection of that.

Thank you!!
Is anyone else getting sick of all these types of thread recently? I remember when these forums were mainly occupied by people who actually knew about tech and were not here to jibe at Apple or make ridiculous claims. Threads being opened for the most basic and irritating things. E.g. Apple changed my iPhone PIN. Members need to be vetted here.

I think Jobs has clearly made more mistakes in his time than Cook has in his as CEO. If anything - your post was condescending. Spouting off personal opinion like it was fact. Go take a holiday instead of using an Apple Watch. Clearly you need to relax if a Watch winds you up so much - so spend your cash on something else, ignore the Apple Watch and save us all the pleasure.
Edit: looking at your other posts, clearly you don't like much of what Apple do - bar the Mac Mini.

i think if they'd sold it as a stand alone product rather than one that required an iphone to function properly they'd have sold a lot more. ( it was hidden from most users as far as i can discern from looking on the net at various sites )

Not everyone has that much disposable income and if they do there's far more prestigious ways to blow it than an iwatch....Rolex , Omega , Panerai etc etc

At least 3+ days battery life , a built in phone ( without having to use an iphone ) , a blood pressure monitor and a price cut I reckon they'd sell like hot cakes - maybe by v4 ?!?!

How could Apple Sell the Apple Watch as a standalone product when it needs to be a direct reflection of your iPhone for notifications? They have to be able to communicate in tandem. Unless, Apple decides to release an LTE model that isn't dependent on the iPhone. The Apple Watch is still a new device and expanding as you can see with the different models.

I'm not following your second argument about not everyone has that much disposable income on an Apple Watch, but then you're talking about blowing money on a $5,000 to $10,000 watch Panerai or Omega? Again, technology versus a mechanical watch. Two different things.

And as far as the other advancements you listed with the battery life and additional health sensors, take in the consideration Apple Watch is still expanding and Apple likely is experimenting with various health advancements. But the battery life as it currently is not horrible and what's the difference of charging it on a daily basis as you would your iPhone? Is it that much more inconvenient?

I have seen this argument made by others as though it is somehow a pox on the Apple Watch. I have a stand that holds both the watch and phone and charges them simultaneosly. I can only speak for myself of course, but I have never found that it takes significantly more time to add the watch than it does for the phone alone.

Do you know how to check blood pressure?

Apple watch would look more like this, though it would open up a whole new market for bands :)

That said, aren't the wrist ones of questionable accuracy? I seem to recall that they are ok for basic / non-critical monitoring, but very sensative to fit and position on the wrist.

Edit: I guess the QuardioArm is currently the best solution for blood pressure monitoring with your watch?

I agree with you, except strangers on the streets, i have seen 0 person i know who wears the aw except me.

I've seen a ton of  Watches in the wild, and on techies and non-techies alike.

I'm tempted to get one, but I'd only wear it for hiking or working out, and I can't justify the $500-$800 I'd spend on it. Obviously I wouldn't spend $350 on the cheapest one because they're ugly.

Well, all smart watches are ugly when you compare them with the Navitimers, Speedmasters, Submariners, and those panda bullheads.

Breitling's doing so well that they had to sell themselves to an investment firm. Omega and the rest of Swatch Group are sitting on years of unsold inventory. Rolex… well, they may be the only mid-luxury brand left standing in the next ten to fifteen years.

I couldn't care less about how popular they are or how well they sell. I am curious about the unsold inventory through; I haven't seen that yet; do you have a link I could read that myself? Thanks!

All I know is that the classic watches will always be better looking than a wrist computer that happens to also tell time. I'll stick with my '69 Accutron and Hamilton Automatic. :)

Then why mention them in a thread about AW sales?

First source I thought of. It got discussed on forums for watch enthusiasts when the financial figures came out. I can go back and find more later, if needed.

Doesn't help current sales at all.

Thank you for the link, I'll bookmark and read later. It looks interesting.

Dude you're the one who mentioned low sales of traditional watches, not me. :)

I've got a drawer holding mechanical watches from Seiko and Squale all the way to Omega and Rolex...but guess what's on my wrist at the moment? A simple 38mm first generation AW in steel. lol

When I first got my AW a year and a half ago, I felt a little hesitant, because it made me feel a bit like people would confuse me for a "brogrammer," but now AWs are so ubiquitous here on the West Coast that no one notices them anymore.

I also have a 100+ year old gold pocket watch heirloom that I don't wear, and I wouldn't be shocked if the same will be said about mechanical wristwatches in another 50 years.

It kind of amazes me how wearables have really grown in population and popularity because of what they can offer. And Apple has done a great job marketing this device as a fashion piece, fitness option and notification device.

I want to like the apple watch. When it first came out I had no interest. Now that more smart watches are in the market I have the urge to pick one up. However I can't bring myself to drop that much money for an extension of my phone. It looks nice, but the thickness of both the bezel and the watch itself annoys me.

As for just a fitness tracker and notification thing, the Samsung Gear Fit 2 caught my eye, and I love the long screen design. So for more than half off the price of an apple watch I may be heading towards Samsung and see what Apple does to the watch in the future.

You can send your unused Rolex to me if you don't mind. :D

 Watches are a common sight in western NY, let me tell you.
