And instead of taking a step back and getting some clarity, you dove head first into the hype..
Since the display quality issues what op mentioned was nowhere described before, your example doesn’t help.iPhone 17 Pro Max, the iPad Pro M5, the MacBook Pro M series, and a M3 MacBook Air,MacBook Neo is not the same type of product as this, just like the difference between an ordinary person and an athlete. Which one would you like to watch when running?
Read what he wrote. He has a 15“ and wanted to go smallerWhy did you buy it in the first place if you already have MBA and MBP? It’s like having an iPhone Air or iPhone Pro, getting the 17e and then returning it, as it is not good enough. 🤷🏻♂️
We’re seeing more reviews coming in where they talk about the hit in picture quality even compared to the MacBook Air. Something we didn’t hear about at first
At about 3 minutes in
And just anecdotally, my wife and i were at the mall yesterday and stopped in for a second to take a quick look before heading to the food court. Yeah. The display was immediately noticeable as lower in quality. I’m used to pro devices but my wife has a MacBook Air and she was the first to remark on the “screen looking different”. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it and just said it “looked different”. I asked jokingly if she wanted to trade her air in for it and she said “absolutely not”. But then again…it’s just one little thing.
Personally, i think for the market they’re aiming for, the screen quality isnt a big deal. It hit a pretty magical price point and it’s going to get ALOT of newcomers from windows over to the Mac side so I’m very for that. If you’re comparing it to an air or a pro, you’re not the market for it anyway. I’ve seen people with m2 or m3 MacBook airs actually saying they wish they waited for the Neo and thinking about trading theirs in for it. To them i say…maybe dont? Lol backlit keyboard, better screen, faster processor, more ram. The air is better in a lot of ways. If i had an air, I wouldnt trade for a Neo obviously. That’s just trading down. I think people get caught up in the excitement of new products.
That isn’t what I took away from this video, the very opposite in fact. Summary statement “M5 Air 2-3 times better performance”. Yes the M5 MBA runs hotter than the Neo which is hardly surprising with a much more powerful chip in nearly the same size fanless casing.Shocked to see both computers have equal performance. Much better thermals on the Neo wowl
I feel like a lot of this could have been avoided simply by going down to an Apple Store and playing around with the Neo for a few minutes. But hey, Apple's 14-day return policy exists for a reason, and they obviously operate at a large enough scale to absorb the costs of supporting this.Exactly the logic behind defending the MacBook Neo:
“Of course the screen isn’t great — it’s supposed to be worse.”
Sorry, but I do get his/her point: why buy a Neo if you have an M3 MBA and a MBP? A third laptop, why? Two I get: one from work maybe, one personal. Or are these owned by spouses? Otherwise, it does sound like buying something of which you know beforehand is not up to par with what you are used to: ie buying based on hype.I did not get caught up in any hype. Just stop trying to argue. Move on.
What did you expect for a basic entry level laptop? For what purpose did you buy it for?Got my Neo today. Put it through some paces, and just got back from the Apple Store to return it.
Why I returned it:
The Neo’s screen made me feel like I was stepping back in time. I can’t go to a screen like that when I use devices like the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the iPad Pro M5, the MacBook Pro M series, and a M3 MacBook Air.
- The screen size is just a little bit too small for my liking. The 13.6” MBA size is a better size for me. I could sort of live with this, if it wasn’t for:
- The screen quality is just not good enough for me. Two main issues with it: the viewing angles are noticeably worse than a MBA and MBP screen and the clarity and crispness of the text and graphics is noticeably not as good as a MBA or MBP. Everything looks slightly blurred on screen in comparison to Apple’s Pro devices and even compared to the MBA.
I did side by side comparisons with the same content as well just to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.
Overall really nice device though. Great build quality, nice keyboard and trackpad, decent sounding audio, ran apps well, etc.
Given the (many) other devices that you use, my feeling is that you should never even have considered buying it. Sometimes this (and other US-dominated) forums are a bit off the ground. Many threads about first-world problems of people with too much cash in their hands.Got my Neo today. Put it through some paces, and just got back from the Apple Store to return it.

Not surprised by the OP.
I found the mba screen average after using my ASD, sold it bought a Mac mini and a iPad Pro.
It’s a very interesting point and maybe the most important. Arguably Apple had to cut corners. I don’t mind the lack of whatever P3 colors, but the sharpness and the anti-glare are non negotiable, especially if this Neo is aimed at students or low-budget or older people, because if one not notice, eye strain is bad for the sight. The jumping to conclusions with no evidence is pretty widespread here.
I did not buy this thinking I would return it. I didn’t know if I would keep it though because I had to test it but I did buy it with the intention of wanting to keep it and having it work out. Knowing it was inferior spec wise kept me on the fence as to whether I would keep it.
This is the first time I have ever returned an Apple product in 20 years of using their devices, with the exception of the first gen MacBook Air that had defects out of the box.
I like a lot about the Neo. The build quality, the trackpad, the keyboard… ultimately it was the screen that killed it. If the screen was laminated and on par with the MBA, I would have kept it.

You could say I don’t care, the difference is minor, but unless you have short screen sessions, your eyes will pay the price on long term. That’s why I hate Apple to have cut on the reflective base iPad, aimed mostly at young people, even children, it kills their eyes without even them knowing. I hope the Neo coating is more efficient, although it seems not on par with the MBA
It boggles my mind why you could not determine it wasn't for you before you bought it!Got my Neo today. Put it through some paces, and just got back from the Apple Store to return it.

If you read this thread, you would have an answer. Why did you buy it in the first place if you already have MBA and MBP? It’s like having an iPhone Air or iPhone Pro, getting the 17e and then returning it, as it is not good enough. 🤷🏻♂️
Why post in a thread with a question like this? You clearly have not read the thread because this question is addressed MULTIPLE TIMES.Sorry, but I do get his/her point: why buy a Neo if you have an M3 MBA and a MBP? A third laptop, why? You could have tried it in an Apple Store (or within a few days, other stores) and see if the screen fits your needs.
It is addressed MULTIPLE TIMES in the thread.I have just re-read it and 15” is not mentioned anywhere. 🤷🏻♂️ The OP said:

I feel your pain. Can be frustrating. MacRumor Forums are not always the most supportive... these are the times when everyone a) feels the right to have an opinion, informed or not, on everything and b) feel compelled to share that opinion every chance they get, hence multiple people commenting on the same thing as if somehow there is a poll being taken or whatever. Heck there are folks who seem to have an apple axed to grind and whose goal seems to be to pick apart every posting with the same messgage (on macro?0 a) something negative about apple, b) bring it back to Tim Cook's 'greed', c) Steve Jobs would have done it differently, and d) more recently, its is all Tahoe's fault. And it doesn't matter what the post is, that is their message. over and over. and if you point that out, you are accused of trying to censor! lol.It boggles my mind that people post repetitive things in a thread because they don’t read the thread.

So DeepSix, are you going to put your money where your mouth is and trade in your iPP M5 for the Neo then? Your iPP is literally the thinnest apple device ever made.Thinner isn't always better. I'll take a slightly thicker chassis that doesn't cause the laptop to throttle so much every time. Those Airs get really hot.
This is absolutely not true. Maybe you are referring to Intel Airs. The cool running of Silicon Macs is perhaps their most well known characteristic. Those Airs get really hot.
