Those are some silly justifications for getting the ipad mini. Especially the bit about how the ipad 3 is laggy. It's like "yeah, this new one lags, so I'm gonna go to a device that uses the previous generation's processor and hope it won't lag". Yes it has a smaller screen, but its the same as an ipad 2. So you're basically comparing the ipad 3 to the ipad 2 and saying that the smaller ipad 2 (with the same #of pixels) won't lag. :p

Personally, I think you should forgo any justifications and spend the money cos you can and want to (let alone post it on a forum to reassure yourself). I've got an ipad 2 and I'm still buying the friggin mini. That's literally having two ipad 2's for personal use. **** logic I've got money.

How much you wanna bet prior to the iPad mini announcement his iPad 3 was the greatest tablet on the market? Funny how when any new device comes out the former one all the sudden has a huge list of flaws/shortcomings. Plus IMO if you pay 329 for a 16GB mini w/o retina, you're a fool.

Ain't that the truth. All of these Apple devices were the greatest things ever, absolutely wonderful. Then the "retina" display came out and suddenly the old screens were awful, terrible, unusable. Steve was one hell of a marketer wasn't he?

Same reasons as OP, selling mine for 350.00 AppleCare, dock, and extras 16G white wifi ipad 3, listed in marketplace here and on craigslist.
I hope to get that much or might try eBay.

I feel the same , want something a bit more compact yet not iPhone size.

Hello

Some people just want the newest model. Stop justifying yourselves guys. Nothing was wrong with your 3 yesterday, and there isn't anything wrong with it today. You are buying it because it is your money and your decision.

I have a 3 and I'm getting a mini. I'm just not decided yet that I want to sell my 32gb VZW iPad for a rock bottom price... Kind of don't have a choice cause of the iPad 4...

I agree as well to the laggy part and then going to an older generation CPU. The new iPad 4 however has the newer A6X chip with twice the power so why not go with that one and hope the lag is not there on some games ?

I sold my iPad 3 for a Mini too; when I first got the iPad 3 (to replace the 2, which replaced the 1), I had a MBP and a job that didn't require my personal laptop with me 90% of the time. This year, I started a new job that requires me to carry a laptop with me constantly, so I got rid of my MBP and bought a 13" air that's on me at almost all times, especially during the week. Now, I used to use the iPad for moderate productivity tasks (i.e. notetaking, etc.) in addition to tons of reading (books, NY Times, science papers w/ annotation, RSS, magazines, browsing the internet, etc.) and video watching. Now, the iPad is used exclusively for consumption-type apps and my laptop that's on me is used for heavy duty processing-related stuff, I don't need the big screen despite how gorgeous the retina is. The mini can accomplish all I want in a nice light package. I'm pretty excited!

They almost serve different purposes, when I use my iPad it's always resting on something, if I hold it with one hand for too long it does start getting heavy, so for the low low price of £269  I'm pre-ordering a mini and flogging my kindle.

In the end of the day it is my money that I will use, this seems to be a big concern about this post and it wasnt my point at all. I just wanted to point out why it is not stupid to go from 3 to mini. But like someone said "you just want the latest version" no, the latest and more powerful version its the ipad 4 and I dont want that fat heavy ****.

Same here.. I'm really interested in the smaller form factor and especially a lighter one.

I find the iPad 3 just too heavy to read from while holding it in one hand. Which is why I have a kindle (keyboard, e-paper style) on the side. I often bring the Kindle on business trips and always hate the slow browser.

Once I have both for a few weeks I'll decide which one to sell. I know I'll make a loss either way but it's worth the try.

I forgot to point that out too. I could not use this thing comfortably in bed! Unless I would sit up but it is my bed, I would like to lay down.

And when you're all comfy lying in bed, the iPad mini also frees up one of your hands...

i won't be getting the Mini but i will be getting the iPad 4 and returning my iPad 3.

the Mini might make a great gift for the girlfriend though for December - she has a 1st gen Kindle Fire and that's one heck of a dated device now

Dear Diary...JACKPOT

I totally agree. No one needs to justify why they want one. It's your money and you don't need anyone's approval to spend it.

I've always wanted a smaller iPad since my first one. I returned my iPad 3 to get the new iPad mini. The retina display on the 3 is nice, but I never thought it was bad on my first generation iPad either.

Hate
- heavy
- bulky
- uncomfortable
- long charging time
- laggy (pretty often) I read it was because it had to power the high resolution retina display
.
These are similar to my reasons. I don't use my iPad-1 due to its size. I have no problem throwing my kindle in my backpack but my iPad doesn't fit all that well with the rest of my crap, plus its not that easily used on the subway with one hand.

we need to some people on hear working out. the ipad 3 is so light. 1.5 lbs

alright everyone start lifting some 1lb dumbbells . you can do it!

The original poster hit it on the head for me too.

Sold my iPad 3 32GB Wifi only for $560 on Ebay today. So, I am all set to stay up tonight to get my iPad Mini order submitted.

I too purchased a Nexus 7 because of the smaller form factor and I wanted to check out Android. However, its sort of like a red headed step child... It just doesn't connect in my Apple world... So, I sold it to a buddy of mine, who has since sold it on Ebay.

Heavier and more Bulky than the iPad Mini will be (hands down). I think it all depends on how you use it. I like to curl up with it and read, surf and the Nexus 7 was much more comfortable than the full size iPad. Now the mini will fit the bill.

I'm also selling my iPad 3 to get a mini. I mainly use my iPad for reading, web browsing, and email, and I've been looking forward to getting an iPad that is lighter and smaller.

Isn't that kind of the point? Good being relative and all... Prior to the iPad 2 announcement, IMO the iPad was the best tablet on the market. Does that mean I was wrong to think the iPad 2 was better?

From what I read, in the OP's opinion, the iPad 3 was the best (for his use)...until the Mini came out. Now, there is something suits his use case better. i.e. A new best tablet for him.

Good lord is there that many people out there that think the iPad 3 is really that heavy that they can't comfortably hold it?

Physical fitness must have taken a big plunge the last few years.

Too long of charge times? Charge it when you go to bed unless you spend all day on the thing, even then just plug it in when you use it.

Laggy? Never had such a issue, in fact one of the best things about the iPad 3 over my Xoom is that it is really smooth and responsive in comparison.

Admit it, you just wanted a new toy.

To the OP I am considering the same thing. Love my ipad 3 but at times it does feel rather heavy. I love the slimness and lightness of the mini. I wanna order it but seems like having 2 ipad's would be silly. Maybe I will do the same thing, sell my ipad 3 and get the mini. Seems like a great product

Is my arms shaking NO, but will the lighter smaller version work better ABSOLUTELY....

I think the bigger point is, no one has to defend their buying decisions. People are explaining their rational and if you are happy with the current model GREAT!

Why do people take issues with what others want to do?
