I love my iPhone 4 but the Samsung galaxy s2 just kills it!!! Hands down the best phone out now. The battery life has been good for me but not as great as the iPone but it lasts the day. The screen size is great for the web and the speed is as fast as my Mac for page loading times. I have ios 5 on my iPhone 4 and I do think that its an great upgrade but I like the customizations that I have control over with android better. The iPhone 4 feels laggy after using the sgs2. I do agree that it is super light and dose not feel as premium as the iPhone 4. But it is VERY FAST!!!

Disagree! Plus i've had 2 friends same as the OP who had to return due to battery not making it thru a day. They work in the field alot so SGS2 wouldn't cut it unless they were parked in front of power at some point during the day.

i just buy a samsung galaxy s2 it's mi first android phone i really love the iphone if i don't like the galaxy s just sell it but i really want to try it :)

Op I have to commend u for a very unbias review

I've always been intrigued by android handsets and you cleared some things up for me.

See I run a jb iPhone 4 and I wholeheartedly agree a stock iPhone 4 is a gimped phone missing some great features that android has.

Now OP is a jb iPhone better than an android phone?

Since I have used four androids (Xperia Arc, Samsung Captivate, Google Nexus S , Samsung Galaxy S 2), I can tell you once you take out bigger and vibrant screen, a jb iPhone 4 will fix almost all your issues and still give you far better battery life.

Browser: Atomic - great full screen browsing plus ability to download any file.

iFile: finder/windows explorer with built in unrar/unzip etc. functions. Can browse any part of your iOS filesystem.

Drag and drop: pwntunes. I literally haven't touched my laptop and iTunes for the last three months. Period. And my iPhone 4 had 300 songs and 7 movies downloaded off the web and synced right on device. No third party software on a PC needed. You can download via data/wifi and using ifile move your media into folders to autosync.

Customization: well there is a themes section of this site right? ALso modmyi is doing great work uncluding animated weather background that reacts to real time data. No battery life compromised.

Apart from sideloading, not much else.

I hate to say it but while Samsung's Super OMELED screens look awesome, there battery performance are usually average to subpar.

In fact, most Android phones are poor battery life compared to the iPhones. Some of it has to do with poorly written Android apps running in the background.

Right now, the only Android phone that can actually compete with the iphone 4 battery life is the Motorola Atrix. That's because Motorola put a huge 1930 MAH battery in that duo core.

My friend paid over $900 to import the unlocked Galaxy S2. He says his phone is "dying" by 7pm of heavy use. My original Vibrant was dead by 5PM each day (I carry multiple phone so always have a backup). But my Motorola Atrix still has 30% battery life by 5PM of similar heavy screen use (web
browsing, texting, youtube etc) and very little voice or music use.

With both of our iPhone 4 we are down to 20% by 8PM everyday of heavy use.

So he gets around 6 hours of battery life with his Galaxy S2, I get close to 7.5 hours on my Atrix and I get 8 hours of use of my iPhone 4. This excludes the 10-12 hour of standby time. We are both up around 530AM each day and recharge our phones every night.

In my opinion, my Atrix is just as fast as his Galaxy S2, despite running 2.2. The Galaxy S2 screen blows away my washed out Atrix. But my Atrix has a better and sharper resolution on the 4 inch screen.

That being saiid, I already sold my iPhone 4 2 weeks ago and will get the iphone 5 when it comes out to complement my Atrix.

i just sell mi iphone 4 and get a time with the galaxy and when the iphone 5 comes buy it i really love iphone :D if not i will sell the galaxy and get a factory unlocked iphone

Thats what zoom is for. Its a phone, not a computer.

Some people play games on their "phone" and it is much better on a 4" screen. I can vouch for that. I dont play a lot of games but something simple as Scrabble is much better, and i play a baseball game on it that just that extra .5" makes a big difference. Its just nicer.
If you dont agree, cool. Enjoy your 3.5" screen when Apple goes to a 4".....but im betting you will get the 4" and be very happy with it and say what a great upgrade it was.

As for battery life, that is my ONLY gripe about Android. Other that that, it is the absolute best OS going. If i can get thru a whole day easily with GS2, then im good with that. I dont run all that crap in the background or have my screen brightness all the way up so it shouldnt be a problem for me.

Really? It's just funny because Apple is suing Samsung for making touchwiz an iOS clone. Apple must believe it's a pretty good clone as well to sue.

Hmmm, i didnt notice a resemblance. I dont use Touchwiz on my phone. Dont really care for it and can do more on others. I use Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher EX.

Remember 4G isn't actually real 4G. It's just something like 3.5G (HSDPA, HSUPA+).

People go with what they are most comfortable with. While SGS2 can outdo the iPhone in the hardware department, for you in this case the overall user experience on the iPhone is superior to the SGS2. And that is Apple's advantage in the smartphone wars.
Come on man..did you even research this before you posted?
You clearly don't use your device the way many others do (which is fine). To me, and many others, the device isn't just my phone, email & messaging device but it's also the device I use to read on the go as well as browse the web. Granted when you have more time, an iPad or computer are better for these tasks but people are starting to use mobile devices for these tasks more than they have in the past. That's why I think 4" is the sweet spot. It's large enough to make reading and browsing convenient while also not making the device too large to not be comfortable to carry with you at all times.
I use my phone allot and the screen is pretty good but with the advent of bigger screens I do feel cramped at times though its not a huge concern at the moment. I could see a 3.75 or 4 inch screen being on the next iPhone but keeping the size of the device not to large.

thanks to the OP for this information.

i just received my SGS2 in mail, but i haven't opened it yet because i'm scared :roll eyes:

my current phone is iPhone 4 and i use it 90% for web browsing which i find the screen is so cramped, and sometimes it's lagging with complex websites.

i just had to buy the galaxy S2 after i read so many good reviews about it, and waiting for iPhone 5 to be released is driving me insane.

one thing that's bugging me about the SGS2 is the lower res than iPhone 4's screen but with bigger screen. because of my 90% usage is browsing and reading text in website, I'm afraid the SGS2 screen will be much blurrier than the iPhone 4.

is the text in retina display really that much better than the SAMOLED+? i think it's stupid to have a bigger screen but u still have to zoom in to read things, while with smaller iPhone 4's screen, u don't have to zoom in much to read small text.

can someone please post screen comparison between these 2 devices in macro shot with small text?

I have a Droid X and I love the big screen mainly because I can type so damn easily on it. Mind you, I'd love to switch over the an iPhone because of the battery life and the apps but I'm holding out for a larger-screened iPhone (unsure if I'll get one, though).

i hate my HTC DHD's keyboard, even with 4.3" screen, i find it easier to type on my iPhone.

Wont do no good. Your computer screen isnt SuperAMOLED or a Retina display. Neither one will look as good on your computer.

well at least i have my iPhone 4 in hand for comparison. so is the readable small text in iPhone 4 can be readable in the SGS2 screen? or i still have to zoom in like i did in HTC Desire HD which sucks so the bigger screen is only useful on watching movies.

actually i didnt have to zoom much on the sgs2 but yeah, on the ip4 one my eyes strained a bit less. Perhaps the retina is useful afterall, lol.

Anyways, try the sgs2 before returning. Who knows what you may like. In the end i didnt like it because IMO the device needs a specific android build for dual cores to take advantage of the hardware plus deliver better battery life, which might come with ice cream. WHo knows.

Still, the phone is not bad at all. I am glad tech is moving fast. And the fact apple has delayed the refresh means they are closely monitoring it and might end up unveiling another "wow" device. I am really hoping for it :)

A 4 inch screen can be made the same size as an iphone with a 3.5 inch screen. There's a lot of wasted spaces above and below the screen of an iphone, so making the screen bigger can be done without changing the phone size.

As for cheap vs premium phones, how is lightweight being cheap? Samsung could just make all the internal parts heavier and more metallic and all of a sudden people would think the phone is more premium. If you drop a phone, it doesn't break by hitting the plastic or metal edge, it breaks by shattering the glass front, and back in the case of the iphone.

You're absolutely right about that. A perfect example is the HTC Sensation which has a 4.3" display yet the phone is only a little less than 1/10 longer than the iphone (11.5mm difference). So basically that particular phone has almost a full inch more screen yet the size difference between it and the iphone 4 is negligible, and is very comfortable to hold. So if that can be done with a 4.3" screen, then it should be very easy for them to design a phone with a 4" screen without increasing the size of the phone significantly. It definitely can be done.

I love Moto's Multi-Touch Keyboard. Mainly because of the big keys which means easier to type. Absolutely hate the stock Android keyboard, however. Typing on my first gen iPod touch is a bit of a bear anymore.

In terms of keyboard on the Galaxy S2, I HATED the version that came pre-installed. However, I did find one on the market called Swiftkey Beta X which I grew to really like (but still not on the level of the iPhone keyboard). The GS2 also comes pre-installed with Swype which was pretty good but I prefer typing rather than swiping the keys (just my preference).

Awesome thread, man. Very objective.

I think after the luster wears off on having the latest and greatest, people do end up going back to iOS because they are either used to it already or didn't realize how satisfactory the user experience and ecosystem really is. This is no diss to Android, but there isn't much of a difference between the two OSes except iOS has more polish and is the mature platform with a wealth of apps.

The only Android phones that appeal to me are the ones that have a slide-out gaming pad because every slate Android look more of the same to me. Only the Xperia Play has one though. A quad-core processor doesn't mean much to me in gaming unless it has the proper controls.

As of right now, iPhones are as good as it gets for everything else except catering old school/hardcore gaming. Even after a year since iPhone 4, it still holds its own vs a much younger SGSII.

I think Android has surpassed iOS in the hardware specs, but it still hasn't caught up to iOS' simple and efficient user experience and Apple's design and quality materials it used on iPhone 4. It is the attention to details and its simplicity that makes Apple #1 in my book when it comes to appealing to the masses.

very true, even the sgs2 is smooth, but sometimes i feel my iPhone 4 is smoother, and i even turned off widgets and the live wallpaper.

retina display is da bomb, even with smaller screen i can read small text without zooming in while in much larger sgs2 screen, i still have to zoom in to read small text. especially in iOS5 with reader feature, it doesn't really need a big screen to read articles in sites with ease. well a 4" iPhone might help a bit though.

i'm selling my sgs2 today.

I find most people who venture to the other OS often times come back. It goes both ways we all heard of the verizon customers who returned to android after they tried the other OS. Most of the time its just because they can't get used to the interface. Other times they miss other things about the features. Itunes, customization, hardkeyboard, ratina all cause people to return

i switched to a mac 9 years ago and never looked back :D

I dont want to start a stink but c-mon. Quality materials? Dude, the iPhone is made in China. With a china doll glass front and back and a piece of plastic underneath that glass on the back. That isnt quality material. Im sorry but it isnt built any better. It is just heavier from all the glass that breaks a lot easier. IMO that is a flaw with the iP4.
Does it look nice? Sure, it looks nice and has antenna problems so stop with the "quality materials" claim. I never had a iP4 but the one i did have, the silence button broke which resulted in having to replace the entire back cover because it is attached to it on that model. Light leaks from the 3G and 3GS were common so please.....

Heavier does not equal better quality! Better support? Hec yes it has better support. Ill give ya that.

Well not to get into this too much....:p

My Samsung Charge felt horrible. Plastic toy that creaked and felt like it would fall apart if dropped. My iPhone 4 feels much better. Is that a sign of better quality....well no but to me...I guess it feels that way :D
