You probably meant to say that just because you don't care that animations might last longer it doesn't mean that they don't in fact last longer.

umm, NO, I meant exactly what I said... here let's watch this video and see a side by side comparison to see how much slower iOS 7 actually is in the real world, not in your perception of an animation.

so, is this really an issue with app load times, or do people just think ios 7 is slower because of the animations?

I've created this video for you to see how slow animations cause the UI lag.

The screen does not react to the finger swipes until the animation is 100% complete. The 1-2 second delay can surely drive you nuts, especially when you're in a hurry. It definitely affects your general workflow on the phone.

Unlocking screen is not the only place where it lags. Multitasking switcher is another one.

Anyway, here's the video, please note that the swiping speed is intentionally exaggerated in order to make it obvious how long the delay really is:

P.S. Here's another video of the multitasking switcher lag:

Is there any particular reason you feel the need to start doing things before it settles?

The point is not that something is slower the point that has been made repeatedly throughout the thread is that the animations are more pronounced and somewhat longer in duration. They are not as snappy as they used to be. It's pretty clear they they aren't, and the main difference is that some people don't care about that (which is fine), but it doesn't change the fact that they are not as snappy as they used to be before.

I could quote 50 posts complaining that ios 7 is slower than ios 6, now that they can look at a side by side comparison and are proven wrong you want to complain that it's because the animations are "TOO PRONOUNCED"

I don't think there are very many posts complaining that the animations are too pronounced in this thread.

Saying that they are not as snappy??? Does it matter if the animation is not as "snappy" when in the real world the app opens faster? You guys complain about speed, saying iOS 7 is too slow, but when it actually opens faster than an app in iOS 6, you want to complain and say you would rather wait longer if the animation is "snappier"

So are you really complaining about how fast apps open and how much time is wasted here???

I mean you are basically telling me that after complaining about how long it takes for an app to open, you would prefer to wait longer as long as the actual animation is shorter.

Like I said from the beginning... peoples perception of speed is what they are going off of. You would prefer to wait longer for an app to open if it had a very quick animation because it's making you think that it opens faster, while in the real world, your app IS opening faster, you just don't think it is because the new animation is different from before.

I mean, you, yourself said that people "shouldn't have to change the way they use their devices" in terms of having to waiting, and that "quite a few people don't really care for animations since they aren't using the phone to look at animations but to do things on it."

So if they are "using their phone to do things on it" why would they want to actually wait longer to open an app just because the animation is shorter? Why would they want to have to change the way they use their device and wait longer to open apps??? I'm confused...??

Newly purchased iPhone 5s, and an extra second required to complete the animations is driving me ********* bonkers. It's pretty much everywhere: unlocking the phone, switching apps, launching apps, control center, notification center.

That's the ONLY reason why I hate iOS 7.
Sheesh. I think I'll stick with iOS6 on my 5 for now until they get some of this stuff sorted. I'm sure it will be sorted have faith in them but probably won't have anything ironed out until a few months. I'm not just hearing it here either my brother in law was over today and he said his phone is buggy and glitchy ever since updating.

I have had every iPhone since it's launch iOS6 is my favorite by far so not updating is not hard for me.

Have you seen how long before the device respond after every animation? And yes, that delay happens after the unlock animation also, which is BEFORE you can go on and open any app.

Do you think that half a sec quicker app opening is gonna matter? No, perception, experience in using the device matter! That's why I love Apple in the first place

Did you even watch the video I just posted??? Real world comparison.... and guess what? iOS 7 is actually faster than iOS 6 in many instances. Go figure....

I matters to me and many others. If you don't care about, don't notice it, don't think there's anything there...that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that we do and it matters to us. We don't have to convince you of what we see and what matters to us. If you don't see it or don't care about it, that's all good. No video or anything else is going to change our perception of it--the bottom line is that something changed about the animations no matter how you slice it, and whatever it is (even if we simply go with the animations just being different as you suggest) it's not having a positive effect for us (even if it might for you and some others). We are discussing what we see and think about it here, since you don't seem to see it and/or care about it, sounds like the thread isn't really for you, and that's fine too, since not all threads are for everyone.

You seem to misunderstand, I am not complaining. I am merely remarking upon the absurdity of the "issue" in question.

It can go both ways.
I'm also not complaining but just remarking about the absurdity of making slower animations in ios7 while io6 animations were faster and gave the feeling of a faster and better iphone.

I've never heard such bitching and moaning in my life. iOS7 runs fine on my devices and is a good product. As with any product it will evolve. Until try not not commit suicide people!

Yup, I did watch that nonsense. I did admit that ios7 open app faster (in case you haven't read, or unable to understand). What we're talking about is the animation affect the over all system smoothness

Try this: return from multitask menu and immediately tap an icon (or scroll a page). Tell me you didn't have to do that twice in order for the device to respond

And don't blame yourselves if you're too slow to notice but everybody knows what i'm talking about

Again, experience is more important than half a second quicker app loading

I don't know what is wrong with you if you can't accept this simple thing that some poeple have an issue here. I personally unlock the device (4S, iOS 7) the icons fly in, animations seems to have completed, but if tap some icon (my natural speed i operate the device) - nothing happens. Even though nothing is moving it's either animation is still on, or something, because UI is not responding that half a second. AND THAT CREATES THAT FEEL OF SLOWNESS. If you are slower moving person then it's fine, but i naturally am faster in the way i operate the device.

If it's bothering you, it's still complaining. For me it's more for the sake of argument. I like having people explain to me how a split of a second is a life changing experience.

It highlights the inconsistency of the cleaning up process behind iOS7. This was the release that was supposed to cut out unnecessary clutter, skeumorphism and whatever from the iOS experience. So the powers that be decided to shoehorn in some completely unnecessary twee animations that add nothing to but detract from usability.

Now people used to the relative slickness behind previous releases of iOS find themselves tapping the screen to no effect in error and are understandably annoyed by the pointless GUI bloat.

Apple's left hand does not have a clue what the right hand is doing.

So, you complain about speed, and how you are wasting time opening apps now with the new animations.

I prove to you that in the REAL WORLD, apps are actually opening faster than they were before, and you tell me you would rather wait longer for the app to open if the animation is faster.

A bit hypocritical of a position after you just complained that you don't want to waste time waiting for apps to open, but ok.

I mean if your problem is that you don't like the animation, that's fine. But don't sit here and complain about the speed of the animations saying it's unfair that you had to change the way you use your device and that you shouldn't have to wait for your apps to open; and then completely try to change your stance that you don't care how long it takes the apps to open, you just don't like the animation.

To most of us it's what we can best describe as the "speed" whether actual or perceived. We notice it that much more than in previous iOS versions. Doesn't really matter what might be behind it all--as to why we notice it more--the fact is that we notice it and we didn't before and that is annoying to is. It might not be to others, but it is to is. You can nitpick every little thing that people have said to describe the difference given that it's not something easy to describe, but it still won't change the fact that it's different to is, and not in a positive or at lest even non-noticeable way. That's all there's to it.

Why does something have to be life changing or even close to it to still be annoying enough for someone to notice and care about it? If you don't notice it or care about it, great, but it means nothing to the those who do. Feel free to post in threads about the animations being great.

ok, I'm just saying it's pretty hypocritical to complain about speed and how unfair it is to waste your time and having to change the way you use the device and then ask for the solution which is actually slowest. If you don't like the animation, that's fine, say that... but don't sit here complaining about speed and how its unfair that you are wasting time on your device when in reality you want to waste MORE time as long as you get your old animation.

no need to try to be a jerk about it. I'm not some grandpa who doesn't want a fast responding phone. Here you go with another video, proving that you are wrong again. I can open apps after unlocking with no lag that you speak of. In fact I can even click the app to open it BEFORE the animation is complete and all of the apps have flown in. The video has been slowed down to 20% speed at the end to show you in case the beginning animations are too fast!! I mean you honestly can't tell me that anyone needs to use their device any faster than in this video. I can open apps before animations are complete, as soon as one app is closed, the next can be opened, and then the next, and then the next, and the next.....

But I'm sure someone will complain that iOS 7 doesn't read their mind and predict the next app that should be opened because it just can't keep up with the speed in which you use your phone in the real world. Right???

I guess youtube is being slow about processing the video, if you can't see it above, try the link.

Aside from the poster above me proving that you guys are wrong to begin with concerning icons not responding after unlocking, i've noticed that it's not possible to navigate to another page instantly after unlocking. I am pretty sure this wasn't possible in iOS6 either, but as to call this "lag" or the system being anything in terms of "slow" is just ludicris. I doubt this is a "huge error" on Apple's part anyway, infact I think they are fully aware of this and decided to keep it that way as intended.

The underlying point in all of this is that whatever the explanations might or might not be, there is something different about the animations--no one rational can deny that--and at lest some, if not a good chunk if people at least don't like that and at most actually feel some physiological effects from it. That's the bottom line, not justifications of why it might be different or even rally how, but the mere fact that it is and that it is enough to be an issue (on one level or anther) for some. Nothing anyone can expalin, "prove", or say would actually change that reality.

HAHAHA, the real problem is that you guys are just a bunch of fence hoppers and can't really decide what the actual problem is!

We figured out what the issue is from the beginning: the iOS 7 animations.

If there is an actual problem of some sort with any of this is that there are a bunch of people who don't see the issue and don't care about it who somehow feel the need to continuously "prove" something for no particlar reason, and in the process of it insult others too (directly or indirectly). None of what they say changes anything for anyone who see animations as an issue, yet they feel the compulsion to participate in something that they themselves clearly imply is none of their business since they don't see the issues or care for them. Now that is truly the definition of pathetic.
