this list doesn't make sense because most phones have a majority of those functions.... name one phone that doesn't have a calculator nowadays? it would make sense, however, if the iphone existed in the early 90's...

I can type pretty fast on the iPhone, but to be fair I am marginally more likely to type gibberish whilst using the iPhone than on a laptop...

Until I can get an iPhone with 80 Gigs or more, it does not replace an iPod for me. I carry an iPod and an iPhone with me 99% of the time.

See i thought i would need my 30 gig creative when i got my MBP aug 08 and iPod Nano, but i ended up being able to use my 8 gig ipod on the go, and then would be at my destination so i could use my laptop for more serious music stuff lol.. so i sold my Creative to my mate for a coupla bob and i 've not had any problems since. Im not to sure what im gonna do when i get the iphone, i might keep my ipod as a removable disk :D

Nobody is going to do 1 hour of calculating on a non-QWERTY phone, but this is quite doable on the iPhone.

if you like to climb mountains or going btt etc don't take your iphone as a gps.
take a garmin extrex instead - its better at handling and almost crash-proof

in all seriousness, an iphone replaces the following for me

my phone
my ipod

thats really it

it hasnt replaced my calculator, my laptop, my garmin, my camera, chekbook, gamegear, whatever lol

I think it is possible to do maybe 40-50 wpm on the iPhone if you really can get the autocorrect down. But PERFECT typing with no need for autocorrect would be extremely impressive.

The iPhone replaces an iPod, camera, compass, GPS, game handheld, and emergency wi-fi (or random fact checker)....but I still need my macbook for leisurely surfing (or responding to 5-10 posts a day on macrumors).

For me, my iPhone replaces:

Phone
iPod
GPS (once TomTom is out)

In addition, it gives me a lot of functionality I wouldn't otherwise carry around:

Check email
Check things on the internet
Have the ability to take decent snapshots without carrying another camera
Have the ability to take decent videos without carrying another camera

It's a great device and easy to justify the cost IMO. But it doesn't replace my laptop, DSLR, HD Camcorder...

Way to photoshop it.
