I wish Firefox had some of the tighter integration that Safari has e.g. automagically injecting 2FA codes from Messages into a web page. It also doesn't play well with sites that make use of the camera for authentication.

Firefox reads the same 2FA codes from messages and emails as Safari does. This is on my laptop - I don't know how well the mobile version works.

Actually, Apple has considerable sway as to how / if it accepts an app to their store. The biggest issue is that they set what features may run in an app - 'sandboxing for security reasons' is their rationale, but more often than not, it looks more like their usual nanny behaviour at play.
If a developer has an app in the Store and elsewhere on the net on their own site / GitHub, the one outside of the Store will likely be more fully-featured. And often cheaper (if not free).
Firefox has to put the app in the store. Apple has no say in who puts an app in the store or not.

If Firefox tried to put it in the store and got denied that’s a different conversation but I’ve never found any information suggesting they tried.

Also the dev sets the price in the App Store. There’s lots of free apps in the App Store.

Back when I started using Macs, there wasn’t even such thing as App Store. And until now installation of Firefox is as simple – drag and drop. No stupid spyware-inspired “Windows style” installers, no folder choosing, just drag to applications and DONE. If it doesn’t work good enough - throw it into trashbin, literally.

Since Tahoe lacks Launchpad now you basically have to do the same for App Store installed apps too.

Actually I am glad Firefox is not on App Store, it is basically dead and serves no real purpose, their team doesn’t have to pay Apple any developer fees or taxes. I would have actually preferred no App Store on iPhone too, worldwide not just in EU or Japan

Google apple app store GPL v3, there are different types of open source, Firefox isn't in the apple app store because apple can't lock down open source software that is under GPL v3. you can get Firefox from Mozilla or download xcode and build Firefox.

I totally for about that, but you're right, GPLv3 licensed software can't be put on the App Store (Mac or iOS/iPadOS). It requires that the end-user be able to edit, compile and redistribute.

Firefox crashes every time MacBook sleeps. Also, there is no Firefox application in the Apple store. This is not user friendly.
Have you tried a "refresh" of Firefox? I'm also a user on MacOS Tahoe with a MBAir and I have no issues.

Step 2: Option A – “Refresh Firefox” in-place

If the app launches but is glitchy, a built‑in Refresh often fixes issues while automatically creating an “Old Firefox Data” backup.

  • Open Firefox.
  • Go to Help → More Troubleshooting Information.
  • Click Refresh Firefox…, confirm.

  • Firefox creates a fresh profile but keeps essential data (bookmarks, passwords, history, cookies, auto‑fill) and moves the old profile to Desktop → Old Firefox Data

So you think because not enough have been written it makes it the 2nd worst browser?

My understanding of this situation (which is admittedly very limited understanding) is that Apple limits extension capabilities in ways that make some types of extensions either impossible or overly cumbersome to implement and not worth it given the limited market share of Safari.

From a user perspective, I just use what works best for me and extensions are a huge part of that decision making process.

The best solution is not to use Firefox. I don’t understand why people have this compulsive need to use browsers other than Safari, which is the native browser on Apple devices. Safari is the safest and best possible browser to use on a Mac.
