So why don't one of you inventor types come up with a led that fits in the headphone jack and an app that can make it blink with notifications. Someone would buy it (not me).

...start DEMANDING functionality.

I don't want it. Nor do I want cup holders on my iPhone.

Do you seriously expect Apple to dedicate engineering resources to a low priority hardware feature. Especially when:
  • There are more innovative/marketable things to implement.
  • Lack of said LED hasn't hurt sales so far.
  • Much of the advice here is to TURN IT OFF anyway (so what's the point?)

the OP in his/her provocative thread title said:
Why is Apple so damn stubborn to never include notification LED in its iPhone brand?

I don't think it's Apple who's being "so damn stubborn" :)

And you would post the worst implementation of LED ever.....the way it's done is very nice and definitely not tacky present day...good job defending your iPhone with this obnoxious post  And to answer this threads actual question, Apple is so stubborn because they will never give you guys what you actually want, they only give you guys what they feel you need... This is like the communist of phones. You want 2 gb ram you get 1 gb ram, you want a non bendable phone you get a flexible one, you want a 16 mp camera you get 8 mp, you want 32 gb instead of the 16 gb base version you get 16 gb.........

Don't kid yourself buddy. A LED notification light isn't any "big upgrade" by any means. I know many people including myself wouldn't want any tacky notification light like you would see on the Androids. Why would I need a notification light when I'm getting notifications every other minute? I have a 5.5' screen to look at not a dumb light that blinks. Not to mention all your Android specs are irrelevant. Apple doesn't care about specs but cares about overall UI experience. Specs means nothing. Check out geekbench too the 6 and 6 Plus owned your Droids on all categories. Go home buddy horrible attempt.

Cup Holders vs. LED... is that really even an argument?

Engineering resources... get out of here, it's an LED

More innovative and marketable things...? You mean like larger screens that Apple initially mocked? Yeah... Really innovative

The advice isn't "turn it off", it's giving the OPTION to turn it off... Why not have the option?

Stop being "Fan-Boys" and start DEMANDING functionality.

Simplicity is a feature too.

I'm not opposed to LED notifications themselves but I grow tired of people thinking that you can just throw EVERYTHING into a phone have that phone remain Apple-like.

Once it has an option for everything it's no longer an Apple device. And no, "you can turn it off" isn't an answer. Having a long Internet Explorer-styled list of settings is extremely un-Apple-like.

I've got no beef with an LED specifically, but please don't tell me we can have everything and still have an Apple-like device. It's just not possible. Something has to be cut.

Unfortunately LEDs were one of those things.

Simplicity is a feature too...

Wait, wait wait... Two scenarios:

Scenario 1 (no LED): I put my phone on the desk, go upstairs, take a shower... yadda yadda yadda. Come back down and forget to pick up my phone before I sit on the couch... "Crap..." I can't just look at my desk (across the room) and see if I have any notification... I have to GET UP off the couch, walk over, turn the screen on and see...

Scenario 2 (LED): All of the above... ASIDE FROM THE FACT I don't have to get back up... I can easily see if the phone is making a slight glow every so often... (depending on how I set it... a blink? a glow? a pulse? how often?)

So, which is more simple?

So, which is more simple?

I don't need any convincing because it doesn't matter if it's useful or not. EVERY feature Apple cuts is useful. But we can't have them all.

It's like if I give you $100 and send you in to a grocery store. No matter what you buy I can make a case for the items you didn't buy. But it doesn't matter how much I like that ice cream. The fact is you only had $100 so something had to give.

And yeah, I'm sorry that LEDs got cut out. But something has to be.

You're ridiculous. Not having an LED notification is a step backwards... It's an oversight... and it sucks.

Thanks. I'm bored at work.

In all honesty, led notifications aren't necessarily necessary. Sure it can be convenient to have but can also be distracting. For some it's a plus to have but not having it, I don't see it as a step backwards.

Plus we all know notifications are going straight to the :apple:watch in 2015.

Apple sent me a survey many years ago. It asked about the missing features I wanted to see on the next iPhone. I never even thought to ask for a flashing green light.

Now, much as I'd like to think I'm special and that Apple only sought input from me on these important questions, I suspect they asked many other customers too: Had there been a overwhelming chorus in support of an LED, I expect we'd have seen something by now.

This I do agree... Any insight on if it's waterproof however? I've heard it's not. Now THAT seems like an oversight!

Being that the :apple:watch is being aimed at all consumers, you'd assume the sport version might be water resistant. But who knows. I do know that Ive never seem people swimming in their rolexes and it seems like :apple:is aiming for that market of consumers as well.

One would think they would mention that, but fingers crossed!!!

I do know that I've never seem people swimming in their [Rolex] and it seems like :apple: is aiming for that market of consumers as well.

Again, imho it would be a HUGE oversight to make a watch/fitness tracker that one couldn't get nice and sweaty with... Go for a long run during the summer, your wrist is going to perspire. I honestly hope and pray it's an oversight they just didn't TALK about it, as opposed to not including it.

People talk constantly about "What would Steve have done?" and in this circumstance, there is little to no doubt he would have INSISTED on resistance if not proofing...

TBH though... I'm still not convinced "wearables" have progressed enough for my liking. They're "bulky" add on's that are cumbersome and somewhat obtrusive. We will wait an see, I would get an Apple Watch if the battery like was more than one day... but something I HAVE to charge on a nightly basis seems a little limited. When I go away for a "long" weekend (3 days?) it would be wonderful not to have to bring an ADDITIONAL charger over the two I already carry. (Laptop & Phone)

That is all, sorry for the off topic conversation.

"Hey Siri! Do I have any notifications?"

Not only is the LED function supplanted, but it's improved upon. An LED won't tell me why it's blinking. This tells me what's causing the notification.

Next.

By the way: so what if you have notifications? To act on them, you still have to either rely on siri, or get up and grab your phone. An LED isn't going to save you from that. And even if the LED is off, you're assuming it's going to stay off because, I dunno, you have no life or something. You're only putting off the inevitable: that you're going to have to get up and expend that half-calorie of energy to pick up your phone.

Finally retired that Treo 700p, eh? :p

:D

My previous phone was a Nokia Lumia 650. Before that an iPhone 4 (which was my first smartphone). If I was to order them in preference, much to everybody's disgust it would look like this-

BlackBerry Q10 > Nokia Lumia 650 > iPhone 4.

Seriously, bro... getting up off the couch to walk over to look at the phone? Who needs to do that?

Also, if you drop your phone, you dont have to bend over to pick it up and see if you have a message.

This is the argument I don't understand from the nay group. Isn't it the exact answer? If you don't like it, turn it off. None of us here has every iPhone feature turned on at all times, right?

As for "no longer an Apple device..." Do you mean the act of adding a function that some people want, and can be invisible to those that don't, makes the phone less Apple-like? How does that take away from Apple's build quality and UI?

You're missing the point... we're talking about simplicity. Seriously, after a long day at work (I stand all day... I'm not a fat slob like you imply) sometimes I just wanna relax.

Also, if you drop your phone, you dont have to bend over to pick it up and see if you have a message.

...keep making excuses for Apple, it's insane you can't see this is a real "issue" people care about

Hah!

This thread should simply be an experiment to show that nobody bothers to read anything besides the first post...

I'm simply going to change the OP to say what I've said a million times already:

We are talking about an LED that is hidden so you can't see it AND turned off by default in the settings so people such as you don't have to complain.

It's not going to be hidden! It will be so bright ships at sea will see it clearly!

This is the argument I don't understand from the nay group. Isn't it the exact answer? If you don't like it, turn it off. None of us here has every iPhone feature turned on at all times, right?

Common sense. Otherwise, all the accessibility options would just be ON with no option of turning them off.

As for "no longer an Apple device..." Do you mean the act of adding a function that some people want, and can be invisible to those that don't, makes the phone less Apple-like? How does that take away from Apple's build quality and UI?

Again, exactly.
