I don't care about notification lights but you can't disagree that if the touch id ring lit up with different colors or maybe pulsated clockwise with a glowing color it wouldn't be cool. because it would be sexy as hell.

As is an really annoying LED light that tells you nothing about why it's flashing.

What about a non annoying LED that tells you something about why it's flashing, mr irrational?

BTW it's not the lack of LED thats a deal breaker to me but the aggregate of apples draconian policies, simplistic /childish os interface, and mobs followers who happily take what their overlords give them.

It's nowhere near childish. You know what is childish? Samsung Comic Sans in the interface, now that's childish lol. Simplistic? Yes. And that's why we love it, actually. You are free to use whatever you please, though. Seems like you have an alternative in mind, so why are you spending energy on bashing apple here?

Oh , damn, joined October 2014, my bad, you got me, haha

Totally agree... Imagine if the Apple logo on the back (like on a MacBook) could also glow if you turned the option on... Oohhh... that would ALSO be sexy as hell. (imho)

I though about that one more than once but the truth is..Half of the people use cases and we all put it down on the back so .. I don't know if anyone would ever see that :D

So many idiots in this thread. The notification LED is to NOTIFY you of something you missed. It's not a notification when you're using the phone, it's so you don't have to turn on the screen to see if you've missed something. I have an android for work and use an application that changes the color of the LED depending on what I missed. I'm not an advocate of the LED but man, some of you are too dense to realize the functionality of it.

Apple actually hates LEDs from what i can tell. I mean.. My iMac has NO light indicators, not one. Power, HDD, SOMETHING? Nada.. Same thing with MBA, not even a little light that says it's on. I don't know why, and i don't really care to tell the truth.. But it seems that they do it on purpose :D

It is absolutely childish. And bland. And almost completely uncustomizable (relatively speaking). You know, apple doesn't want to give the simplistic too many options to get all confused and stuff. But like I said, if that was the only issue I would have an iphone 6 on order right now.

I agree about the Samsung crap UI, at least I can easily change it though.

Yada Yada Yada, october 2014. You Samsung fanboys became like Jehovah's Witnesses, coming to our place and trying to convert us. Same brainwashed dudes every Sunday talking about Jesus. Please, go away.

I swear Apple and Samsung fanboys switched positions from a few years ago.

I remember it was the Apple guys spreading hate all over Android forums before and now it's the other way around but worse. Get it together folks. If you don't like the current design, don't get it. If you dig a notification light, get a Note 4, no one's mad at you for it.

How about the iSight/FaceTime camera? :D

If this was directed at me, I've never owned a samsung phone in my life. I went from the 4S to a lumia windows phone to a 5s to an M8. I'm not a hater, just calling it like I see it.

As the poster above me said. Why is this even a debate? They should include it and if someone does not want it then they can disable it. The constant pressing of the sleep/wake and home buttons is the reason for so many repairs and replacements. I try to minimise the touching of these buttons through numerous tweaks eg springtomize, activator and auxo. Anyway who to tell maybe this button dependence is a part of apple's planned obsolescence strategy.

What I would actually love for Apple to do is integrate multicolor LEDs behind the top and bottom bezels of the iPhone. There's a lot of otherwise unused space, especially when compared to competing smartphones. They can be used for both notifications, and relaying of context-specific information.

It's especially odd that they haven't done so already considering the iMac G4 and current MacBook Pros have concealed LEDs in their chassis to indicate a sleep state.

I mean it's not that difficult to do, what gives?

And no... the camera LED does not count.

EDIT: I am talking about an LED notification light that...
1) Is hidden underneath the glass or earpiece grill
2) Is turned off by default

This way no one can whine and say "but that is ugly" or "but I dont want it" since those types won't be bothered by the LED, only the people that want it and turn it on will have it.

That is one of the first pet peeves of mine when switching from Android. Thanks for making new thread dedicated to it! I miss that notification light! Green for messaging, Blue when a new email comes in...

Maybe Google has some patent on that sort of mechanism? If you look at some of the other nifty features like Face unlock, Apple will never get anything like that unless they pay Google licensing fees.

To my mind faceunlock is more of a software feature and led notification more of a hardware issue. So I think google and android would not necessarily come into play. As one poster said though a light around the home button would be AWESOME and unique!

I'm not going to argue why Apple should or shouldn't have LEDs, but here's why they don't...

The vast majority of iPhone buyers these days are brunch chomping, tote bagging, latte sipping selfie obsessed millenials, who have their phones surgically grafted to their hands. Not only do they check their phones every .075 seconds, they have developed a tingly feeling that occurs just BEFORE they get a text/call/tweet/tinder/vine/snapchat notification.

Why would Apple waste money on a feature that humans are evolving toward never needing?

Why is Apple so damn stubborn to never include notification LED in its iPhone...

Apple won't get that feature because face unlock is a dumb ass idea. Never ever used it on any of my android devices. Not only does it waste battery it's dangerous to unlock during driving :)

Is this still a discussion? God I hope Apple never does.

Yes because of all the weird people who are against a new feature that most likely will be able to turn off and not use if desired.

To be honest it wouldn't be a problem if the iPhone constantly alerted you via screen on or noise or vibration until you acknowledged the notification, but it doesn't. So if you don't happen to hear the phone you are forced to touch the device to find out if you have a notification.

The ability to have it constantly alert you is a mod I would support. I can see times where I might need to switch it on.

I'd think having it on regularly for vibrate or sound alerts would drain the battery faster, though.
