But we don't complain about the Otterbox adding more weight. I never understood the complaint about a few more oz.'s. Would the difference cause more fatigue, droopy pants or heavier purse? Doesn't Apple make their iPhones from a slab of metal?

That's because somebody chooses to use an OtterBox case on the phone, which is their choice, which inevitably makes it heavier.

But when you factor in all the technology an iPhone has incorporated into it that is less than an inch thick And incredibly thin from where the iPhone was ten years ago, It makes difficult it to argue about a "Few ounces."

i can only say that the 6S+ feels VERY heavy, and i put the minimum protection i could find.
still, i would expect in this day and age for it to be half the weight.
i hope they don't keep them heavy ONLY BECAUSE people demand "premium" heftiness ;)

Iphone X weighs 22 oz more than the Galaxy S8 which has a much higher PPI, a headphone jack, a bigger battery and also wireless charging. Wonder why? Are Samsung engineers smarter?

Update: sorry bad math. 22 grams more. 6.14 oz to 5.36 oz.
1,000 nits brightness vs 625 for Iphone X

The answer is the 3D Touch module.

The iPhone 6 display assembly weighs 12 grams. The 6s assembly weighs 29 grams.

The 3D Touch module adds considerable weight to overall phone.

There's a lot of hate towards anything not Apple, but the Galaxy S8 is made of the same aluminum and Corning glass. Any difference in the weight of the materials don't account for 20 grams between the X and S8.

I have an S8 collecting dust in the box and honestly it feels like plastic to me. I was shocked at how cheap it felt. I thought they were using aluminum now.

Neither PPI, nor brightness is releated to weight.

Steel vs Aluminum.

Even if it is heavier, which is only by a slight margin, it will only add to the premium feel of the device. People often complain of a phone being too light and feeling cheap because of it.
My aluminum iPhone 5 felt light as air compared to the prior steel chassis iPhone4. Still felt like premium quality.

Weight is irrelevant.

Apple has gone back to Steel, for whatever reason. They do consider it more premium, as with the AppleWatch lineup.

Apple can't win. If they make a phone too light, it doesn't feel "premium" enough (and for every person like you that thought the 5 was in comparison to the 4, there were 3/4X as many who did not... just look back at the threads on launch day).

Then they make it heavier again and people go back to wanting it to be light.

The grass is always greener, but weight does NOT equate to "premium feel". If it did, I'd be hella "premium"!!!

Weight doesn’t make me feel one way or another about the quality of a device, but it does to a lot of people so I’d hardly say weight is irrelevant.

once a fully premium made phone
with best light metal and components will be around a 100 grams (3.5274 ounces)
people will slowly accept it as a "good" premium and it will be the next step.
the problem is that people like to "get their money's worth" so weight = money justified.

I'm glad I didn't get my "money's worth" with my wife then =P

I can't comprehend people who complain that an iPhone is too heavy. This past weak I upgrade from a regular 6 which is one of the lightest models ever to an 8 Plus, the heaviest iPhone ever. The 8+ has never felt uncomfortably heavy in my hand or pocket. It certainly doesn't drag down my pants or cause fatigue when holding as some have claimed.
