Isn't that the truth.

Just remember that they need to be useful posts, not fluff as some other people have done occasionally. Spam will be deleted.

I think as well, it's memorable when people have just posted in every single thread and go to 0-500 in about 2 weeks. It certainly makes me respect what they have to say far less, and I remember them because of this.

If you see spam, report it, we'll deal with it and we'll remove repeat offenders to, this forum is simply too large and active for the mod team to see everything...

Incidentally, spamming as an ironic statement is just as bad. You know who you are. ;)

I've been posting about once every two days for over two years now. Seems like I should have an avatar by now, but its not big deal to me. Within another year I'll be there.

I think that a years worth of member ship and 1 post/day or two years of membership with .5 posts a day could be alright...

If you contribute to Macrumors (pay the $25, or however much it is), do you bypass the "500 posts minimum" for an avatar? (Can you get an avatar before 500 posts by contributing)

No, you still need 500 posts. As Blue Velvet said, is a little picture under your name really that big of a deal? If you truly like the Forum and become an active member who genuinely participates, you shouldn't even care about how long it takes to get an avatar. Patience is a virtue.

Good things come in due time.
Made me think of the award winning Guinness advert :D ;)
He waits; that's what he does.
And I tell you what: tick followed tock followed tick followed tock followed tick...
Ahab says, 'I don't care who you are, here's to your dream.'
'Here's to you, Ahab'.
And the fat drummer hit the beat with all his heart.
Here's to waiting.

[q end of advert, insert slogan]

Good things come to those who wait.

edit: video link - wicked advert.

i like the idea of # of post more then time spent, but a 300 would be good( not spammer is going to get to 300 post)

How about 451 posts that seems about right. ;) In the beginning I always thought 500 posts sucked but now that I am getting closers I think its fair.

If you think its hard getting an avatar, think how hard it is to rank as a moderator to get a 100x100 avatar.

I was thinking about this and from point of view that might not be such a good thing. I mean should someone really take pride if have a zillion posts on a website were people discuss and drool over rumors of upcoming computers. There is something very nerdy (and almost unhealthy) about it. Oh well who needs a social life. ;)

On a related note... what do the numbers mean below someone's username? Like MacRumors 68xxxx

EDIT: d'oh, I saw it all in the FAQ. I guess I definitely don't deserve an avatar :p

And another thing... where the heck is the hash key on Mac keyboards? I had to use "x" for the numbers!

On the UK keyboard, which I'm guessing you have, it's option (alt), 3 like

Thanks Applespider, that's been bugging me for a while. Hey, there's loads of useful characters: ¡€#¢∞§¶•ªº

For that, you deserve to have your Mac replaced by a PC.

Humblest apologies. I normally search but tonight I'm obviously lazy/tired/both. My PC has been banished to the cupboard - please don't make it come out!

I agree. I think that would be good for the people that have been a member for sometime but just don't post a lot on every all of the topic.
