Why is PCs laptops the display screen is inferior to Apple laptops?

I have a 32" OLED display for my desktop PC, and I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of brightness when there's lots of white onscreen. It's great for gaming and media consumption (which is what the PC is for), but I'd want something else if the primary purpose of the computer was productivity.

It's nice to see tandem OLED technology start to appear in larger displays, but I can see why Apple was so late to adopt to OLED in their laptops. OLED by itself isn't necessarily a panacea.

My point was given in that other comment. We've had great quality OLED screens in smaller devices (iPhone, iPad Pro), but nothing at the sizes needed and the quality / specs needed until Tandem OLEDs came out (Apple was the first to use them in a large, consumer-focused display with the iPad Pro).

It's only been in the last year or so that larger (14 - 16") laptop screens using OLED technology have started matching the quality of the LCD screens in Apple's MacBook Pros. This is a good indication Apple will switch to OLED in the MacBook Pro soon, as has been rumored. That wasn't going to happen until the screens were good enough, which they are now.

My Lenovo Yoga is a mid-tier machine. Cost was $1,513 or so, similar to the MacBook Air with the same specs (32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD).

Well this thread quickly turned into another pile of trash featuring the usual suspects sniping back and forth with the decades-old Windows vs Mac yapping, now with the addition of the Neo in the mix giving people another excuse to complain about keyboards, for example, in a thread about display resolution.

This place is useful so often, but just as often it's unintentional self parody.

I am having fun with my comments, some what. Nothing nefarious about them. You have to admit the "Oregon Trail" comment was good. Come'on.

That price puts it solidly in the premium/higher end laptop category for Windows (for ultrabook style and not "gaming" laptops). And if that's the Pro 9i Aura with the tandem OLED screen, that's an awesome price for what's normally over $2000.

If it's the standard Yoga 9i, that's still a good machine with a nice display.

This thread has been much better than expected and better than many threads that start with a inflammatory title. I thought it was much less of the typical Mac vs. PC flame war than we typically see.

In a former life I was one of those Anti Apple everything. Getting older helps with all of that. Now (I am typing this on my 10th gen iPad with Logitech keyboard) I am OS/system agnostic. I use it all. Windows will be my number one because It's what I grew up with. I think I will have an apple system sooner than later too.

It's all good now. Really the crap about windows is completely overblown by the tech community to garner clicks and views. I have had one little hiccup with a payment method on my 365 account and it set me off because I was worried I would lose my data. Here is one area where I think Microsoft can really improve. Customer service. Have a phone number where you can talk to a human and get some stuff fixed. Apple does have the best customer service after the sale.

It's the regular 9i. I paid $3,100 for my MacBook Pro 16. Same RAM and SSD as my Yoga and that's a premium price.

As I said, the price is comparable to a MacBook Air which is not Apple's premium laptop line.

Glad you and others are enjoying it, I've set it to ignore. Happy 50th anniversary Apple, it's the same discussion people have been having almost since Day 1.

Speaking of clichés, thanks for your concern about my arm. It remains untwisted.

There are already 6 page of comments on this, so I'm probably not adding anything new at this point, but there are so many Windows computer vendors, that it's entirely possible that one's experience is 100% interacting with Windows computers that have crappy screens. But there are also a lot of really good screens. Some better than Apple's I'm sure.

My Windows experience is limited to work laptops, but I've had HP, Dell & Lenovo laptops & the HP has a really nice screen, the Lenovo was fine, and the Dell wasn't so great. But I think that has more to do with the specific models my employers have purchased than anything else. I don't think all Dells are bad or anything like that. I guess my point is just that the there is a lot of variation in screen quality on the Windows side, and some of them are really fantastic.

I notice lot of PCs laptops today only have 1920 by 1080 display screen where has Apple laptops are all Retina display like 2.5 K and 3K. Why is that?

Well sure there are some PCs laptops with 3K display but not many and well price over $1,000.

That's been the case for a long time. The original rMBP in 2012 converted me to apple gear because it was cheaper than than the equivalent windows laptop. Not cheaper than a lower spec machine for sure, but when you compare all the components Apple gear has long been the best value
 
I wonder if Apple will use mini RGB it seems Samsung and Sony is investing a lot into this tech which is supposed to give the best of both worlds Oled and mini LED.
 
Why? Cost cutting that's why.

Apple stuff is all done in-house now. Operating system, silicon, display. If not manufacturing, then at least designing. Optimizing and quality control is achievable.

Over at the Windows world (which I am still a participant of), everything is mashed together from different companies and manufacturers. Profit margins are slim, made slimmer by splitting the earnings across the many stakeholders. Corners have to be cut.

Unless you have really specific needs (not wants) that require a Windows platform to work on, I highly recommend switching to the Mac.

1) The appalling state of Windows 11 now, after about a decade of ensh1ttification from that CEO.

2) No needing to use a Microsoft account for anything. If you need a platform agnostic cloud storage other than iCloud, I highly recommend NOT using Onedrive. Happiness is getting through a day without touching a single Microsoft product or service, and that includes stuff like Linkedin and Github (if you code).

3) Waiting for Qualcomm or Intel to get their act together.

4) The ick and massive failure known as Copilot. Why? See point #1 above.

5) Hit-and-miss after-sales support, both online and offline. Another consequence of cost cutting.
