That Rolex is super nice looking.

I know it sounds stupid but I wish a person could wear a watch that nice on one wrist and the Apple Watch on the other. :)

These days you can do what ever you want. I have tried to wear a watch on the other arm but it seem cumbersome to me. I do slip on my FitBit Surge on the other arm when I go out for a run, but the Apple Watch is worn everyday for now.

The problem is that so many of the posters are here to slam the watch and imply that those of us who purchased it are misguided and then go on to tell us how superior they are for not having bought one.
I think you're being over-sensitive.

I like the AW...I don't love it. It doesn't make sense for me.

That shouldn't devalue your experience or love for the device...or anyone else's for that matter.

The fact that I didn't buy one should mean absolutely nothing to you. You did and you enjoy it.

Unless you're regretting your purchase? Doesn't seem from what you're saying that you are, though

That's why I have gone back to the Charge...so I can still enjoy my watch collection.

No regrets whatsoever. I only wish I could justify having two of them :)

I can honestly say that i was a non AW believer when they were announced, and about a month or two after release. I didn't believe that they could provide me any usefulness. UNTIL I had to go into the apple store to fix my iPhone screen. I had to wait about 30 minutes for them to fix the screen so i poked around and there was a associate readily available to help me check one out. I tried one on and really paid attention to how they function and feel. I think the biggest thing that makes people skeptics is that there are not enough spots that offer "In hand" availability so customers can feel and actually see them. I now love mine and use it everyday.

Since you asked for it, I'll play. When you read this, keep in mind that there is a decent chance I enjoy my Apple products more than you do... I've been an iPhone jailbreaker since 2007. I'm not bitter about Apple products.

You: What can Totally's $400 dumb watch do?

Me (Totally): Tell the time AND the date;). What can your (Macwick) $400 smart watch do?

You:
Tell the time.
Track my activity/workouts.
Display new text messages/emails.
Warn me when it's about to rain (Dark Sky).
Control the music throughout my house.
Remind me of upcoming appointments.
Provide turn-by-turn directions.
Answer or place a phone call.
Quick access to one-time passwords (for 2FA).
And much more....

Me (Totally): Yes, great. My iPhone can do everything you put on that list on a nice big screen. And my $400 watch gets compliments based on it's fashionable style and I'm sure yours doesn't because it looks like every other apple watch out there worn by every other person that wants their technology on their wrist. I don't need to know who texted me so badly that I have to have it on my wrist. I can check my phone 5 minutes after the fact. I'll stick with my $400 nice looking watch that will last me years. And you can have your $400 watch that will be obsolete in 9 months.

Point of my post? It's great that you like your Apple Watch. But. People have different styles. Stop trying to convince them that yours is the right one, it's not your place. You don't need to sell me on the Apple Watch. You can't. If I had to drop $1200 or any other amount of money on a watch today, would I buy a nice $1200 or any amount of money Apple Watch? Hell no. I'd buy the Versace I've been oogling online. That dumb watch will get me compliments for the next 10 years while it's alive and ticking and the smart Apple Watch will be dead in a Chinese tech recycling center.

Spot on, people do not compliment my AW, they are more curious why I have one. When I wear my other mechanical watches, I get lots of compliments.

I have some races coming up and I'm not sure what I'll use, my fitbit,Surge or the apple watch/iPhone combination. I'd like to have the information recorded in the apple health app, yet the fitbit is a single tool to measure my runs. I'll need the AW and the iPhone to track my run

I do not need to tell you which device will track the most data and include GPS data with a map of your run.

You already know.

I would be wearing the Surge for sure and the AW is your option. I am wearing both on my runs most of the time.

Best of luck and do not forget to post that 1st place finish of yours. We know you are being modest!:)

Have a great weekend.

I used to use runkeeper on iPhone, I may revisit that app once I get the watch which will be relatively soon (read probably this weekend)

I like to say that I'm old and slow :D I go out and run for the shear enjoyment of it. People ask me when I'll run the boston marathon and I tell them that I prefer 1/2 marathons because of running for a few hours is enjoyable and fun. Running for 5+ hours is not. The next race is only a 7 mile trail run, but I'm looking forward to a half marathon in the fall.

I am like you then and enjoy the running but never done a full marathon. Just trying to stay in shape and live longer! It also feels good and when I can't run . . .well I really miss it. I have a bad knee and sometimes I can only do brisk walks but just getting out there make one feel great!

Lets have some cooler weather!

I've talked to a lot of Apple Watch skeptics who scoff when they see my Space Grey Sport. The conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: What can your $400 watch do?

Skeptic: Tell the time. What can your $400 watch do?

Me:
Tell the time.
Track my activity/workouts.
Display new text messages/emails.
Warn me when it's about to rain (Dark Sky).

Quick access to one-time passwords (for 2FA).
And much more....

Skeptic: But you have to charge it every day!

That's it! That's the biggest knock against the Apple Watch.

I just don't get why the bar is set so high, given that the existing technology is so limited AND has a similar (or higher) price tag.

It's a tough sell because every single one of those things you list can be done with a combination of the phone i already have and something like a fitbit that actually tracks workouts better.

THAT is why it's a hard sell. It's about 300 bucks more to solve a problem that people can solve with a fitbit and the device they already have (according to my work colleague who has both an apple watch and a Fitbit. he's not wearing the Apple Watch after a few weeks anymore. he still has it, but finds the Fitbit more useful).

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure I'll end up with an Apple watch at some point, but i just don't think it is QUITE there yet - the platform is still very immature and the apps aren't there yet.

If they can get the price down by perhaps 30%, get a few more apps that work well on the watch that aren't just stuff i can already do on my iPhone or with FAR cheaper devices to supplement it, they'll sell like hotcakes.

I've been fortunate that my knees have been injury free, even though I've been running for many years. My ankles on the other hand have been taking a beating and they're starting to show their age. Hiking injuries have increased those ankle issues as well.

That's because they know what the other watches do. Even if it's a multifunctional G-Shock with altimeter and thermometer, they still figure it's just a tough watch. The AW can do so many other things, it's understandable that they want to know more.

Even your friend bought one and reading through all the posts here and on so many other sites as well as knowing my own friends who have bought one, I have to conclude that it's not a hard sell. It's just not the device for everyone nor does it need to be. I don't have a Roku but I know a ton of people who do. I don't think that's a hard sell, it's just not right for me. And given the fact that some are paying $10,000 plus ( not that I know any of them! ) I don't think the current price is an impediment either and I wouldn't expect to see any reductions. But that's a business decision and Apple may well decide that a discount will enhance their plans for the device.

Did you miss the "I can only speak for myself" part? ;)

No, same as me, I could only speak for myself, as always.
I could never figure out how to speak for other people. What ever I say, never come out of other people's mouth, only my own.

I am an Apple addict and have many devices. I so wanted to like the watch. I have been using a FitBit fitness tracker for almost 3 years. I have friends and competitions with the FitBit app.

I found the AW could not track my sleep, could not track flights of stairs on its own and needs to be charged almost every day. All deal breakers for me. Not to mention that I could not compare notes with friends through FitBit. I bought the Charge HR instead of the AW and am happy with it.

Though most of the questions are not about the watch itself, but around why not just use the iPhone instead. People question the concept of the smart watch .

Maybe they're not aware how addicted they are to their phones.

Heck, I saw one such addict nearly push her stroller in front of a truck an hour ago. Luckily for her — and the baby — the driver was paying attention.

It has never been at least several times a week, when I am driving, I do not see someone with one hand on the smart watch, and stare on the watch with several car length between his/her car and car in front of.
Unfortunately, addiction to smartphone is norm for someone, and it is increasing.

Its a tough sell because it priced to high for a smart watch.

Same as iPhone is higher priced than Android phone, iPad is higher priced than Android tablet, Macbook is higher priced than Window-laptop, and Apple-TV is higher priced than Amazon fire or Google Chrome stick. But they all sell very very well compare with any single company, not compared with combined of other companies.

It is priced correctly for Apple from revenue generate point of view, even through might not be priced correctly for a lot of people's pocket.
