Just to note- I haven't read other replies yet, so I may append to this post.

I have had a 6S since last July, and have had no problems with battery life or heated processor. How is the signal where you are? That has always been the biggest drain my my experience.
At our house it's around 3 bars to no service. Most of the time we have service, but remember that I'm usually on wifi there with wifi calling enabled. At school, it's mostly good service, but in some areas it shrinks to a bar to no service. At our river house, good luck getting a signal. My battery over the last week, no service is only 1% of it.

I'm on 9.0.2 JB so have no usage with ios10, but why is the home screen at 17% usage?

That's the first place to start...though where in there, is the question.

That home screen used 17% of the battery, but it took 5.8 hours for that.
The VPN used 10% of the battery, within 30 minutes. That's 20% in an hour, 100% in 5 hours.

So the VPN is the real problem.

I have a BT speaker for the iphone and iPad (but no speakerphone capability).

The lousy battery life on many BT earphones (and having to mind charging them constantly) is a major turn off for me.

There are headphones like the bose qc35 that have 20hr battery life...

So let me ask you 6S users.
Are you having terrible battery issues with it?

To be considered:
To find out if your iPhone 6S can get the free battery replacement check the serial number of your iPhone 6S. To do this go to Settings > General > About. Note down the serial number and enter it in Apple's support site.Dec 7, 2016

The QC35 is complete overkill for my usage.

If I were flying and other doing other things with the headphone, then it would make more sense. (And I like the QC35 over the Sennheiser and the Sony offerings.)

I agree...along w/the home screen usage too!

I bought 6S Plus in Feb '16 and it was bad on battery. Sold and got S7 for awhile but wanted to go back so got refurbished 6S+ last August which had been fab.

I did read they had an issue with air and contamination of some during production.
I prefer Apple refd when possible.

I just wondered which batches are not affected. Its ok.

(BTW you cant check with first five characters only.)

Well I'm going to end this topic saying that the VPNs are doing the most damage and I probably won't own this phone much longer anyway, since we are 80% sure that we are switching carriers to AT&T. If issues like this remain on my next phone, then I will probably test and see if the VPN is truly the culprit which it probably is.

Well I just figured out what is causing issues. Over my spring break last week, I didn't use a VPN because I never do unless I am at school. The only times it heated up was when so was playing a game on the car ride to Texas and back. My Aunt has a 6S too and her phone didn't heat up like mine did playing the same game. I don't exactly know why the processor acts this way, but whatever I guess. Just a few mins ago I was listening to music on Spotify with VPN on through settings instead of through app. The phone heated up randomly and the battery started discharging crazy fast. I did the classic clearing of RAM by holding the home button in the power off screen. Spotify cut out and the VPN disconnected. Then the phone immediately started cooling down. I just don't understand why a VPN connection would do that. I hate it too, because we have limited cellular data and the school's web filters disables a lot unless you use a VPN connection.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to the processor. If I play a game for 5 mins, it will just about burn your hands, and occasionally the VPN connection will do the same thing. I hate that it does this, but I don't expect to have this phone much longer. I don't feel that the iPhone 6S is a good investment for a phone, and that is mostly from my experience. Thanks for the help everyone.
