Why iTunes 9 Sucks...

i have all my music stored on a NAS, so i assume some delay and i am "ok" with that. However, the only reason i am using iTunes is because i am forced to use it for the iPhone. If i could update my phone from other software, i would ditch iTunes in a heartbeat. Redchairsoftware rocks in my boat for music management and the file is about 900K small.

iTunes 9 has been a lot faster than iTunes 8. No bugs so far. It almost seems like people just look for bugs for the sake of finding bugs. Pointless. Just use it and enjoy it. Next time, don't upgrade right away if you don't want any bugs.

And before someone posts about the iTunes Store being slow, its now anymore. It was before due to the release of 3.1 and servers crashing. It is now much faster than the old Store. Thanks, Apple, about time!

My largest complaints about this version aren't bug based unfortunately, I haven't really run into any, I have issues with the interface, I think it's downright ugly, And the controls for movies are now completely non-user friendly.

I'm an animator and illustrator and use a range of movies to reference. I used to be able to easily move through a movie clip frame by frame by simply holding the arrow keys, Apparently now I can't move frame by frame at all, Space won't even pause a movie any longer.

I remember once upon a time upgrading to 7 and thinking it was a poor choice on my behalf, Now I see it's simply a continuing trend for Apple.

A small application that only plays music. I'm sure there's one out there. If there's not, it wouldn't take too long to write your own.

One I really like is Cog <http://cogx.org/>. I use it quite a bit, but mainly because it supports both FLAC and SHN.

I have to admit I like iTunes' file organization, tag editor, ability to store lyrics and artwork, etc. which you don't get with Cog. I'd love to see an iTunes Lite that is just a music player (with coverflow and artwork stuff, but not all the other media stuff) and FLAC support is still necessary.

Speaking of FLAC, is it just me or did anyone else notice that when you quickview a FLAC file in the finder it plays the file as it would an mp3 - this wasn't the case in Leopard, if I recall correctly. I was hoping this support of FLAC in the finder would translate into FLAC support in iTunes, but I guess it's not to be. So sad.

iTunes 9 has been fine for me so far. It's also been performing a lot better than iTunes 8 did. I have a white MacBook running the latest version of Leopard.

I was impressed with how decently iTunes 9 ran(in the few hours I had it), but I downgraded purely because the white background and the fugly, phony looking metallic shading on the "frame" of the app(if that makes sense). I also hate the black background to the artwork viewer when you have non-square images. This makes no sense! White denotes nothingness in the extra spaces of the viewer much better. The black is pretending to be part of the art. What were they thinking, and why were they thinking it? I think :apple: have been farting around w/iTunes where they need not, instead of releasing a G.D. cocoa version, already.
This version of iTunes was offensive to my eyes. Nasty.

It looks like Amazon.com or low end Web site

To me iTunes 9 looks like (yawn!) every other merchandising Web site out there now. I actually put it below Amazon.com now. Apple even borrowed the little play buttons from Amazon. Guess it's to make it look more like a PC.

Not to say it doesn't have bugs, but I haven't found any. It works just as fast as iTunes 8 (if not faster), I love the new features and.. well, I find it better than iTunes 8. The only thing I didn't like was the new store interface, but after having used it for a week I think I may like it better in the long run once I'm used to it.

Quickview can play flac files in SL? Is that true? I can't find any info on this.

Still new to macs - but anyone else prefer Songbird? (works with itunes also if you want to still occasionally use itunes - ie i think songbird can work off the itunes music folder and import to there... if you want. I don't, so i don't.)
Get the add-on for the now playing list immediately and see what you think.

I took a look at it and figured I would wait a while to download it. My friend complained that it was a mem-hog as well. I am not big on the whole iTunes experience at the moment anyway. I truely only interact with it on the iPhone or ATV

The actual app has been fine for me but the store however is another story...very glitchy and slow to respond. Thank God for the Amazon MP3 store

itunes 9 sucks and is a huge resource hog!

When will apple get this right, they said that it is faster syncing? On what planet are they living? Anytime I am syncing a device with itunes, itunes is useless and will not work correctly!

I wish I could I have my itunes 8 back, but the library was updated.

I can't stand how they screwed up the mini-player. Yes, its still the same, but how stupid it is to turn it on. When in the normal iTunes 9 window, instead of just hitting that green minimize button (Which in iTunes 8 would take you to the mini player) and going to the mini player, you have to hold down ALT and then press it. What the heck iTunes!?

I don't understand why everyone is upset about the mini player button behavior being different. It used to have the WRONG behavior by clicking on it. It did not conform to the standard GUI way when it went to the mini player instead of doing what EVERY OTHER APP WINDOW did. Now it works like every other app, and the mini player is the "exception". This is much more desirable in the long run.

Its also a memory hog.
I just brought up Windows Task Manager and it's using up 15.5mb of ram and 0-1%CPU. iTunes Helper is taking up 13mb. (XP, 2006 iMac, C2D, 3gb ram)

For comparison Firefox with just this page open is taking up 89mb.
