I though as much. Oh well. Thanks for the info.
Actually it works just fine. Select a flac file in the finder. Press Space-bar, listen to the file play.

Problems with syncing my ipod through my aluminum keyboard ports now.
Mouse would freeze when I did that. Mouse is also connected to keyboard.
Got it work with Mouse plugged into back of my iMac.
Today though it happened again and the problem seemed to go away when I plugged the Ipod into the back of the iMac instead.

I don't understand why everyone is upset about the mini player button behavior being different. It used to have the WRONG behavior by clicking on it. It did not conform to the standard GUI way when it went to the mini player instead of doing what EVERY OTHER APP WINDOW did. Now it works like every other app, and the mini player is the "exception". This is much more desirable in the long run.

He's probably running a .flac plugin for QuickTime.
I just brought up Windows Task Manager and it's using up 15.5mb of ram and 0-1%CPU. iTunes Helper is taking up 13mb. (XP, 2006 iMac, C2D, 3gb ram)
For comparison Firefox with just this page open is taking up 89mb.
hahaha
178 mb real mem
475 mb virtual mem
I can't imagine any of them would add a quicktime plugin.
... to enable .flac playback in QuickTime, iTunes, and Quick Look, I'd assume.
Well there's your control then. None of those programs utilize installers so any plugin should just be in the application package. Unless someone can tell me where to find out what plugins are installed in Quicktime, I'm skeptical that such a plugin is installed.
And iTunes does not support FLAC, for the record. I was lamenting that fact that it still does not.
you can get flac's to play in itunes?I'm guessing at some time you installed FLUKE to get FLACs to play in iTunes. FLUKE installs a QuickTime component somewhere that delivers the playabiity in the finder etc...

I know this because I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my laptop could play FLACs in the finder and my desktop couldn't. I installed FLUKE in the desktop, and voila - FLACs playing in the finder (and in the quickview pane).
Agreed. iTunes 9 takes up a minimum of 50mb of ram (as did itunes 8). It loads fairly quick and all, but the ram/cpu usage should go down significantly. Apple really should invest some time into making a very clean, simple, standalone mp3 player for OS X which isnt hindered by all the crap that comes with itunes (ipod, movies, iphone, genius, music store, apps store, iTV, etc).
It should really be something like winamp. Small, light and blistering fast.
i think that would be great

The USB ports on the keyboard aren't powered, so this is no surprise.

For now, I'm eagerly waiting for Vox to come out with a library support (hopefully using the iTunes library). Once it does, im never using iTunes ever again;

Actually they are powered.
Actually they are powered.
Actually, they're not. They're /passive/ ports, not /active/ ports.
If they were active, you'd have an AC adapter for your keyboard.
That's what I'd like, a powered keyboard with an iPod dock and at least 4 powered USB ports.
Why not use the keyboard you have and buy a powered USB hub from someone like Belkin?
iTunes is using 134mb for me, iTunes Helper is using 4mb. What does the helper do anyway?I just brought up Windows Task Manager and it's using up 15.5mb of ram and 0-1%CPU. iTunes Helper is taking up 13mb. (XP, 2006 iMac, C2D, 3gb ram)
