It could easily fit in the side and I can promise you people like you would scream how great it was if apple did it. I mean people complained when the pictures of the iPhone 4 first leak on how ugly it is. Then their god Steve Jobs spoke and they now scream how good it is. The alone kills your agrument.

No, that has absolutely nothing to do with my argument.

That means even in something as thing as the iPhone 4 there is still a lot of air space. I have seen cell phone thinner than the up coming iphone. They were not smart phones but it was also 7-8 years ago so in 7 years you are telling me that they could not shrink the space requirement even more then you are even more clueless. ...All in all I have yet to see anything other than argument that your god has not said it was good.

Have you seen the inside of the iPhone 4? Please tell me where the "air space" for a microUSB charging port is? On second, thought, don't bother. Your descent into to ad hominem attacks renders this discussion over. I offered you nothing but reasoned and respectful argument; your inability to respond in kind pretty much says it all.

You do not get it. Techonogoical size has not been a limitting factor of cell phones for YEARS. Yes read that YEARS. Cell phone size on average has been increase. The controlling limitation of the size of a cell phone now days is usability.

The part that Microsim has been around since 2003 but no one choose to use it because lets see it does not really offer much use over the standard sim card. The carriers saw no extra use for it. The phone manufactures clearly saw no point to it. More and more phones have moved on to storing contact on the phone since it can store a lot more info. Mix that with everything being back up on the computer or in the cloud even less motivation to care. Users like the cloud and just go off that.

If you want smaller tech and that is your entire argument apple could of said to hell with SIM card and basicly choose some odd ball size and built it into the phone. The sim card if choose can be built into the phone and work with GSM networks. yeah it goes against GSM standard but does not stop them from doing it. That way apple could save even more room and not have to deal with even put a slot for it on the out side.

Apple is doing this to increase the difficulty of flipping between phones.
Why did they go with Microsim for the iPad because size sure as hell is not a valid argument there.

Ok, but you'd better be looking out for those black helicopters out your window, I think they're here to take you away and implant micro-sims in the back of your neck.

Oh, and name one other phone that has ditched the sim for an internal chip. Yeah, that's what I thought. It's a GSM standard. GSM will always use a SIM. The customers like it that way. And look for more and more cell phones to go micro-sim by the end of the year.

If Apple truly was trying to lock the iPhone down, they would have done something smarter than choose a standard format that already has adapters available. It's like complaining that they used AAA batteries instead of AA. WOW.

Wow your post is hilarious if i can recall apple has been late on a lot things that have been a standard across all manufactures. This is just another example of blind apple fan boys! You gotta love them! thanks for making me laugh

You're obviously a newb around here, otherwise you'd realize I'm the furthest thing from an Apple fanboy. I actually moved from WinMo and am much more of an MS fanboy (ex MS employee as well.)

You guys just have nothing better to do than overthink this crap. It's just a new standard, nothing more. All phones will eventually move to it as they try to cram more and more crap into an increasingly smaller space.

People are always jumping to ascribe some conspiracy theory to everything big companies do, whether it be Apple, Google, or MS.

Occam's Razor people.

On apple is is not a conspiracy. Apple has a long history of trying to lock people in and make it difficult to switch.
For a while you had their own monitor, and keyboard connections so if you go a PC you could not use ANY of your old equipment and it was pretty much just garbage because it can not move on to the replacement computer.

Then you can look at the iTMS back during DRM and the things that still have DRM. They ONLY work on apple products. No way to play it on anything but an apple product. Those same apple products do not play nice with anything but other apple products. You can really only use officially apple approved stuff with other apple products. For the iPod/iPhone they are the only products that accepts 30 pin connections so no other media players can connect to those iPod speakers or connections people have bought.

Basicly apple makes it much more costly to leave the apple ecosystem.

Based on the history the microSim is just another method to add to it. So do not say it some black helicopter thing. Apple has a history that says other wise.

It is some black helicopter thing. Get over it. A year from now we can visit this conversation again and look at all the manufacturers that followed.

BTW, why did they fix the whole recessed headset jack? They had a nice lock in there keeping most headphones out of the Apple eco-system? By your theory they must have done that on purpose...but then went back and fixed it??

Smaller SIM = More Volume for Hardware

Once upon a time, my cellphone used the whole SIM - size of a credit card.

Are you sure you're not confusing your cell phone with a cable/satellite box that used access cards? Lol :p

I have never seen a mobile phone use a sim the size of a credit card. Ever. Doesn't mean I am right either.

EDIT - I stand corrected :)

he is correct, the first phones used the whole credit card size, before you pop it out.

Do you think AT&T will offer the ability to have both a normal SIM and a MicroSIM linked to the same account? So you can use it in a 3GS as well as the iPhone 4.

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3G.

I want to take the microSim out of the iPhone 4 and
put it into the iPhone 3G.

Does anyone know the method?

The frame I have is too small for the I3G but fits the I4's
microSIM.

Hey,

So I'm going to order an unlocked iphone 4 from the apple online store, canada.

Will it come with a micro sim inside it?

If not, what do i do? I study in the Middle East and I doubt that providers have the micro sim yet as the iphone 4 has not been released here yet (legally).

this is my first time buying an iphone. So could you please tell me, on first use, does a sim card need to be inserted to activate the phone?

thanks!
