I picked up my first iPhone in December. So far it’s been very nice. I actually think I like my Apple Watch more than the 8+. My original plan was to wait for the X+, but I caved in December. The X+ will no doubt be nice, but I find myself drawn to the new Note 9. Stylus support and a big battery are very good perks in a phone that is allegedly marketed to “power users”. The fact that only Samsung makes a phone with a stylus is confusing to me. In this day and age, everyone is copying everyone else. I think an iPhone “Note” would make a killing. Is there any reason one doesn’t exist, or is that just the way it is?

In a perfect world I’d be typing this on a note 9 and have my Apple Watch, but that is an impossible scenario.

Rumors say the next iPhone will support the Apple Stylus.

And the reason Apple hasn't made one, is likely because its a really small market - Samsung are the only one doing it - And Steve Jobs loathed stylus'.

It’s a bigger market than people may think.

This still has major influence on Apple…

I am glad that you know better than all cell phone producers out there. You should go tell them that Samsung is selling hundreds of millions of their Note. It would likely change their mind!
No one is selling hundreds of millions of any android phone. I see you’ve resorted to mocking me, so yeah. I think an iPhone Note would sell like crazy. No one knows, since it doesn’t exist.

I am not so sure it would make sense for Apple to add Pencil support to the iPhone. With the Pencil, you can write, draw, and select apps. That is about it in terms of functionality, the Note is a bit different as I understand it, it offers a bit more functionality than the Pencil and is integrated right into the device. While it wouldn't necessarily hurt for Apple to add Pencil support to the iPhone, I don't think it would add much in the way of value either, and it almost certainly wouldn't be the same experience as on the Note.

I actually do see the future 6.5 iPhone X or other future models possibly having Apple Pencil support. The reason being is I could see it being more useful for a larger display for taking quick notes, emails, etc. I don’t think the iPhone _needs_ to have Apple Pencil support, but Apple might offer this as an optional accessory to the iPhone if somebody wanted to take advantage of it.

I for one would consider it, but not in the current form the Apple Pencil is right now, I would like it to be smaller and more manageable.

No one knows because only Samsung has attempted it.
There were plenty of phones that used to use a stylus, Samsung is the only one who has a phone that has apps specifically for their stylus. There are hundreds of styluses out there that will work with every phone There is little market for a single skinned stylus phone.

I would hope that the pencil is made smaller because the current pencil is great for the iPad but its something I would not want to use on my iPhone.

Well if Apple getting the pen is true then the top two titans of the phone world will have a "stylus" so what does that say?

Is the plus model coming out?

Steve Jobs would be right.

I have been gifted/gotten/snitched from meeting tables over 10 of those pens with a conductive thingy on the cap - which you can use as a stylus and are quite interesting at first.

I have lost 100% of them. Literally all of them. I don’t care enough and probably most wouldn’t.

Apple Pencil is for the iPad...

Probably would require a big change to iOS. You can write on the screen of the Sammy whereby it becomes a scribbling note pad. The iPhone screen is grid filled with icons. I used past Notes to make shopping lists or hand written notes to myself. Very convenient vs keyboard.

If there was one rumor to be ‘untrue’ this year, I don’t think the 6.5 X will support the Apple Pencil. I think for future iPhone models it’s very possible, but I just don’t think there’s enough credibility behind the most recent rumor to believe that they will support the Apple Pencil this year, which I hope they do, but if they don’t, I would not be surprised at all.

I think it could be handy as it evolves, but it'd need to be inserted into the device for storage.

I'd buy a pencil if they shrunk it down to fit into both the iPhone (5.8") & the new iPads.

Apple would find ways to make it more than just a writing/selecting twig over time I'm sure.

Pencil support likely coming, but there will never be a space for a stylus inside the iPhone like the Note. There just isn't a market for it, the Note barely sells. I do think a mini Pencil would be required for proper support though.

LOL, if the Note has been so unsuccessful why is there something called the Note 9. And why a Note 8 after an exploding Note 7 and now a Note 10 announced. There is very obviously a market for the Note or it wouldn't be around for so long.

Because what other choice does Samsung have? Right now they don't have any phone that competes in terms of sales with the iPhone. They sold 10M Note 8's in all of 2017. The iPhone sells that many in 2 weeks. The Note barely sells.

Could be that that idea is dead and gone.
It could be. The fact that the Apple pencil exists is some evidence of that. There are many within Apple that disagreed with Jobs on this as well.

If Apple ever does it though I don't imagine it will be some functionless piece of metal or plastic. Apple will apply it's twist to it. If and when that happens I think it will be something that Jobs would be okay with.
