In my experience working with people using Notes, it's really not. And the people who buy Notes for the stylus? They tend to use it for maybe three months then it gets caked in with lint, grease and dead cells..

They actually didn’t didn’t sell that many note 8. The 10 million was a number being thrown around by counter point research, don’t think Samsung actually achieved it in 2017 or 2018.
Note 9 pre order sales is reported to be higher than the Galaxy s9 but lower than the note 8, don’t think that the note 9 going to do any better.
If there is no stylus support, no one will be surprised. I'd say it's 50/50 for stylus support. Just rumors, and it's kind of late in the game.

I think the fact that Apple calls the product a pencil says all you need to know.
I have a stylus as home as a reminder of my HTC Touch Pro. It's about 3 inches long and thin in diameter. The Apple pencil looks nothing like it.
So, sure. If you want to call it a stylus, go ahead. But Apple seems to think it's something else that is useful for drawing on the iPad.
I think we are splitting hairs. The word stylus is so dated, not even Samsung uses that word any longer. Calling it a pencil or an s-pen doesn't really change the meaning of what it does, does it?

You wouldn't call a longsword a dagger or a dagger a longsword. But they both are edged weapons that do the same type of thing. In my mind this is the same thing.
But, it's just my opinion.

iOS in effect sells 2 phones. The X and and the old tech legacy phones. When making comparisons with the iPhone, the Note alone isn't the proper comparison. Nor the Galaxy. There are a large number of Android devices which taken together compete against each other in the Android world. And competing against the iPhone have the greater market share. So yes the Note alone doesn't sell a ton on comparison but it does address a segment.

Times change. A lot of people think Steve Jobs never allowed the Apple Watch to happen, and yet there are unverified rumors that he was in discussion with Jony Ive about introducing the Apple Watch as one of their last projects before he passed on. So we don’t know what Steve Jobs would have allowed today if he allowed Apple Pencil support for an iPhone or not, let alone understand his mindset. Companies change directions and sometimes technology has to expand to offer alternative uses where it reaches more of a demographic with items like Apple Pencil support, which might draw someone else closer to the iPhone.

Would we really be stuck with 4 inch iPhones if Steve was still alive or would the iPad mini never have existed. These are all questions that sadly we will never know the answer to. However I do think that people can change their minds so it’s possible that we would still have these devices if he were still alive.

I don't think so. As we know, Steve was brilliant at foreseeing uses for devices we never knew about yet. But no one can control the technological landscape for ever.
Mobile phones were shrinking prior to the smartphone era, & Apple went against that with a big screen on the original iPhone.
People now demand even bigger screens....& Steve would've been silly to stick with only an SE-sized device. I think he definitely would've catered to the bigger screen market.
Main question would be if he'd stuck with the smaller size for as long as Apple has.

I meant still would have gotten the bigger iPhones and iPad mini if Steve were still alive, not that we would have been stuck with 4 inch iPhones.

Sure, it sells more than the Note, but that's not what the discussion was about. Regardless, the S9 still doesn't compete with the iPhone in terms of sales. There really isn't any competition for Apple right now.
I’m not sure about the Bolded. I mean I agree that iPhone is very dominant in the sense of sales and is one of the best selling phones in the world, but the battle is *not* between hardware, the battle is between android versus iOS. That’s where the consumer is making the loyalty commitment to the phone and not the hardware. If you look at Samsung‘s marketing and iPhone marketing, they both try to Lure the customer to their operating system, because hardware is equally just as good between all these competitors.

Well I was referring to sales, which I thought was clear. If you are talking about market share, yes I know iOS does not and will not ever lead in this area. The amount of cheap junk given away for free on the Android side will always capture the most market share. How else would Google make any money? In regards to just the OS though, I still think Apple is a better platform when it comes to some important metrics - performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps/developers, and customer support.

Well, I brought that up because while the Note may not be their best seller, the S9/+ being their bread and butter definitely competes with the iPhone in sales, swapping spots here and there depending on the month.

I am not sure when it comes to percentages or market share (math isn't my subject), but I typically look at units sold. Samsung sold 10M S9's in Q1, and only 9M in Q2. They are only expected to sell about 30M for the year. In comparison, the iPhone sold 50M units in Q2 alone. We could definitely break down each S9 model and each iPhone model, but as we can see - it's really not even in the same league. iPhone should exceed 200M units sold in 2018, while the S9, Plus, and Note will likely combine for around 60M, and that's generous.
