Mac vs. PC- what are your needs?

It really depends on what you are trying to do with a computer. Basic functions like email, surfing the web, and writing word documents in my opinion one doesn't need a mac. I've been using Macs for years now, but that was out of necessity. Macs over all are a better computer; however they are expensive and get very costly WHEN they break down (which they will). Maybe buying a cheaper computer for a third is a good place to start. If you are a film maker or sound person they I would still compare both systems. In my business I have decided to run both computers side by side. I have lost a bit of the love for Macs.

Hum...you also chose to ignore and not respond to my initial comments and linked article.

Why do you think that? I have read the article... and I do agree in it partially. But there is still no avoiding the fact that a hackintosh is ILLEGAL. Your link doesnt make you exempt from the rule.

By all means build one, but it's getting increasingly hard to do so.

there is no real reason to buy a mac over a pc. the difference between the two is barely anything anymore ever since the switch to intel.

HAHA

I admit it.

I know Bimblebambo

he works for microsoft.

his job is to go on forums and cause hatred and raise awarness about Windows 7.

I didnt say anything before cause i knew he would get flamed anyway!

as i am a devoted mac user. i knew he would get owned :D

Long Live APPLE! :apple::apple::apple::apple:

Wouldn't it be nice if you really could get paid for causing flame wars for the competition. ;)

I didnt know those 3 things there! thats awesome cool :D

PTP
Me neither lol Cool :p

Since I never owned a MBP and looking to purchase on. Just normal daily use of mail, music, safari, etc. Thats not much wear n tear on a Mac? Or what would you say about life of Macs?

Myself, after 15 years of PCs/Windows and 4 of Macs, I still know my way round Windows much better than I do around OS X. Seems to me I can tinker around with Windows whereas OS X seems to be a more "non-user serviceable" feel to it. Saying that, I kind of like that I don't need to tinker with OS X. With Windows, I play with the operating system, with OS X I play with the applications.

I guess it's a bit like owning a new car and an old classic, with the old classic you're forever under the bonnet, but everything's easy to do under there; with the new car it runs so well you don't need to go under the bonnet, though if you do there's not much you can do yourself under there.

I think the fact that so many people say "I switched to Mac and never looked back" doesn't answer the OP's question, but possibly makes it unnecessary.

Did you really think you'd get away with making that comment unchallenged?

I know you don't mean this literally, but can you substantiate it virtually?

I'm running 4 Macs and none of them has broken down.

The legality of selling Mac OS on third party machines is currently being argued in US courts. I suspect Apple will win since, unlike Europe, the US does not take monopolys, consumer rights and antitrust issues as seriously. In fact there are now 2 companies selling Mac clones in Europe, one in Germany the other one in Italy. UK aside, I suspect more will pop up there, where Apple does not stand a chance.

The commercial issue aside, it would never stand up in court as illegal for individuals to install their legally purchased copy of any OS on any computer of their choosing. What we are discussing here is what an "individual" might do with their purchased copy of Mac OS.

Apple is shamelessly raping its customers because too many of their customers no longer question its practices and pricing. If more people did so, we would be paying less for the "trendy" Apple branded PCs. As I said in my first post, I used to be a Mac fan, now I am only a Mac OS fan. Cheers.

If you have to get a valid argument to convince yourself that you need to spend more money to buy a Mac, stop searching you won't get one.
All you will hear about is personal motivations or past Windows experiences which are more or less realistic.

All the virus and hacking crap is getting old, you can get anti-virus programs for free and Windows has an integrated firewall. You really have to be looking for trouble or be a computer illiterate to get a virus on a Windows PC nowadays.

Look at the amount of people that have bugs with Snow Leopard, rock solid OS, yeah right, all you have to do is read these forums.

My arguments to get a Mac, beautiful case design and it is a refreshing change from Windows, it's fun to learn to use a different OS.

Still have a desktop PC with a real graphics card for gaming though:D
