iPhone 5s screen

Apple definitely needs at least a 5 inch screen on its phones. The tiny 4 inch screen is ridiculous but having said that, Apple is not capable of making a larger screen. Innovation has left the building folks. Get used to it.

If they release a larger screen phone it won't be the 5S because it won't have anything in common with the 5. So like you said it will be called something else.

That said I doubt we'll see a larger screen on this release. From what I read the point of the cheap iPhone is too sell to different markets. And to reduce fragmentation.

By adding another screen size they will only be adding to the fragmentation.

I don't think as many people care about screen size as you think. Sure the avid enthusiast on this forum do but that's a pretty small percentage of Apple customers. I'm still happily using my 4S. Would I take a 4.3-4.7 screen? Sure but I'm just fine with 3.5-4.

I'm hoping for a slew of new hardware and software features on the 5S. If a larger screen is one of them then great. If not...meh.

I disagree - I think you are drastically underestimated the demand for a larger screen. The majority of people really do care about the screen size. I read a recent survey that proved as much.

I hope the person who started the post if right (thought I would be shocked if Apple managed to keep a larger screen a secret this late into the game). If not next month, then when the larger screen iPhone comes out you will see the massive boost in sales.

When other phone manufacturers are coming out with 'mini' options of their hottest selling phones that are STILL LARGER than the iPhone screen....thats embarrassing.
Why can't people understand, the current 4" screen is perfect for those people who want a small screen so Apple can facilitate that with the iPhone 5C, but for the large and continually growing population that want a larger screen Apple can facilitate that with a 5" iPhone 5S/6. This way all those people complaining about these larger screens can shutup and be happy with their small 4" 5C and all those complaining about how small the iPhone 5 screen is will be elated with their 5" 5S/6. (you can guess which group I'm in :D)

Everybody happy happy happy

Do you have a links to the survey?

I'd venture to say the average iPhone owner doesn't really care. The average iPhone owner just makes calls, text, and a little bit of Internet use.

I like how compact the iPhone is. I think the perfect compromise would be to squeeze a larger screen onto the current device. I was actually expecting the iPhone 5 to be the same dimensions as the 4/4S with a 4" screen on it.

I'd argue the opposite. I have seen more than just a few "normal" people gravitate towards android phones because of the larger screen. I tend to see more Apple core iphone users claim that screen size is "perfect" Those are the people who have bought into the one thumb reaching across the whole screen marketing pitch. Ironically, those are the same people who have the big bulky cases over their iPhones.

The majority of us are buying Apple phones because we like the software and ecosystem. I would go as far as to say the hardware has already lost much of it's "cool" factor. We're going to go out and buy the 5S only because the UI is good and stable compared to Android.

I for one would love to see a wider iPhone with a 5 inch screen. My case on the phone is way larger footprint than an iPhone with a 5 in screen. I'd just get a slim case and it'd be the same size.

I have no idea how people fit these giant screened phones in their pockets but I would not consider a phone with larger dimensions... smaller not bigger please. I sit in meetings and see these S4's sitting on the table and I just don't get it. They are cool looking, but I would hate to carry one around.

Please Apple don't create a phone with larger dimensions unless you also provide one with the latest technology that is the size of the 5 or smaller. If they go down the giant screen path, I worry that they will make the fat one the premium one and make the smaller one the budget one. bleh

I agree 100000%! I have never heard so many people complain about the possibility of choice. There have been so many leaks of this 5C that we know for sure if it is released it will have the same 4" screen. So why would it be so bad to make the other version, whether it be 5S or 6, have a larger screen? Isn't it better to have options? Apple has 2 screen size options for the iMac, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, and iPad, why not the iPhone????

The majority of iPhone users want larger screens. If you think different, you're off your rocker. We stick with our iPhones for the same reasons many of us stuck with our blackberries before turning to iOS. and that reason is stability, consistency, and that the device is coming from a company that knows what they are doing. By at the end of the day, most iPhone users want larger iphone screens. We just dont want to give up our iPhones to get that larger screen.

Stats please or it isn't so....

I agree with your comment about larger screen into the current device. I'm an average user, and hope Apple understands that there are kids that use the iphone as a computer/social network, and adults that want the iphone for different uses. I don't game, no movies, no music. A little GPS, some email, phone calls a good deal of the time. I take some pictures as well, but that is it.

iPhone 5 is a good size fit for one hand. Had a Galaxy 4.3 incher one time, went back the very next day because of its wider size. Cannot imagine having one 4.5 inches or even wider. Don't like the plastic either. ;)

I think its cool when I see a old geezer rocking a S4 or Note. I think a lot of them get the bigger screen so they can see it better.

Official Poll Stats. Not some web site that is not official. Most do not know about these sites. I didn't. You need a larger demographics that mirrors some election poll taking for an accurate count. Goodness sakes. A web site is nothing and just look at the total numbers. Not good showing only 474 votes total on one online poll. Don't some of you understand official polling ?

When someone presents you some stats you claim that they're not "official". I literally went to google and typed in "iphone larger screen poll" and those were the hits.

Fine what if they're not "official" what makes it "official"? The point is there's quite a bit of desire for a larger screen and that it's not just a slim minority.

http://www.pewresearch.org/2010/12/29/how-accurate-are-online-polls/

“The accuracy of a poll depends on how it was conducted. Most of Pew Research’s polling is done by telephone. By contrast, most online polls that use participants who volunteer to take part do not have a proven record of accuracy. There are at least two reasons for this. One is that not everyone in the U.S. uses the internet, and those who do not are demographically different from the rest of the public. Another reason is that people who volunteer for polls may be different from other people in ways that could make the poll unrepresentative. At worst, online polls can be seriously biased if people who hold a particular point of view are more motivated to participate than those with a different point of view.”

I think they will release a 5C that is identical to the 5 in specs and a 5S that looks the same as the 5 but has internal upgrades. I don't think they will up the screen size anytime soon.

The search string you used says it all. People searching for a larger screen iPhone will type that, search, read, vote. The results will be bias from the very start.

Accurate results in a poll like this are near impossible to determine. My friends and family say they never really thought about it. I was watching TV a few weeks ago and a windows phone commercial came on and I had friends say "Microsoft makes a phone now?" Lol.

I don't think as many people's lives revolve around their phones as you think.

Really? Source? I'm asking because in my little world, everyone I know who has an iPhone does not want a bigger phone. Two of those iPhone users in my little world actually were coerced into buying a bigger screen phone by the cell phone carrier sales person, and couldn't wait until their contract was up to come back to iPhone.

So that's why I'm asking.

They would have never left the bigger phone they were "coerced" into if it was the new bigger iPhone.

I cant wait until I can have the stability and the ecosystem of iOS/Apple products along with a larger screen. Best of both worlds.

Wow. Bigger screen = innovation?

At this stage, big screens aren't new and they aren't groundbreaking in the tech industry, so I don't see how bigger screens mean innovation.

Yes they would have. The problem with the bigger phone is the difficulty in carrying it, whether it be finding a space in your purse, or fitting it comfortably in your pocket. Besides the fact that an iPhone is better, they wanted to go back to the iPhone because of the size.

If you want a bigger screen, go buy a Gallaxy or one of the other mega phones and leave those of us who love our iPhones alone.

As GBR wrote you can have your tiny 4" screen in a 5C (or just keep your 5). Most of us want the bigger screen. Most of us (this may seem shocking) don't just use our phone for making "calls, text, and a little bit of Internet use". You represent like 10% of the iPhone population. most people use it for email, Internet and the occasional call every other day!

BRING ON A BIGGER SCREEN AND STAY RELEVANT APPLE!

Well herein lies the problem. You are right.. bigger screen is not innovation.. but is now the NORM which apple has YET to adopt. Read the article on macrumors... how the board members are worried about apple`s lack of innovation. Apple is playing catch up and has been since the iphone 4S.
I am all for Apple.. i dont have any android products.. but to be honest.. i have been disappointed with each iteration of the iphone since the iphone 4. The jump from 3GS to 4 was the biggest.. and here we are again.. waiting for another minor upgrade.
I guarantee a larger iphone screen is coming.. but when it does.. it will have been 2 years behind already. Apple is losing market share.... and this is gonna continue if they dont do something about it.

No one wanted a bigger screen when the iPhone had a 3.5" screen. Then iPhone 5 came and for some reason people bought something they didn't want. Curious.

I'm sure the exact same thing will happen when Apple releases an iPhone with a bigger size screen!
