The iPhone 5S will have the same form factor as the iPhone 5.. Just like the iPhone 4S had the same form factor as the iPhone 4.. Just like the iPhone 3GS had the same form factor as the iPhone 3G.

There will not be a gigantic screen with iPhone 5S.

If it were going to have a larger screen, we would've seen credible rumors about it by now. I think by this time last year we had tons of rumors about the longer iPhone floating around including art. An increased screen size would likely mean a new resolution, meaning some code for that would be discovered just like the fingerprint scanner was. Doesn't mean it would be in the next model, but it would mean it's a possibility.

We had that whole "teardrop" iPhone rumor right up until the keynote that one year. All the mockups and photos of potential phone cases. Thank god that rumor was wrong.

----------

I'm holding out to see what the next iPhone is, but I'm 2 steps away from Android. I really do need a bigger screen.

----------

The average iPhone owner just makes calls, text, and a little bit of Internet use.

Really? Because things like the iTunes and App Store say that average iPhone users are doing a little more than making phone calls.

it's simple really, too much effort to release 2 iphone at the same time let alone with different screen sizes.

so 5S will still use 4 inch screen.

I'm thinking there isn't much effort in getting a iPhone 5 with a plastic back case working well. Since that's pretty much what the iPhone 5C seems to be. So, I think there would be time and resources available to make a larger iPhone 5S/6 this year.

The sad thing though is deep down I agree with those saying the iPhone 5S will just be a spec bumped iPhone 5 with the same exterior. And it is that realization that truly saddens me, has Apple really become this predictable? What ever happened to the WOW factor Apple used to have? Where it was no questions at all who was leading in innovation and pushing the boundaries of what other companies did. Where they were doing stuff nobody else was. Where everyone else was always playing catch up to what Apple did LAST YEAR. In the earlier days of the iPhone I always felt they were a generation ahead of the competition, but the rate of innovation has slowed while other have sped up, now we are seeing it pretty much neck and neck. I'm slowly starting to think those days may have died with Steve Jobs... sad day

Yes they would have. The problem with the bigger phone is the difficulty in carrying it, whether it be finding a space in your purse, or fitting it comfortably in your pocket. Besides the fact that an iPhone is better, they wanted to go back to the iPhone because of the size.

If you want a bigger screen, go buy a Gallaxy or one of the other mega phones and leave those of us who love our iPhones alone.

I did go buy a Galaxy S4 and loved the bigger screen (except I work outdoors so I could barely see it). It fit just fine in my pocket, on my seat or in my hand. I was surprised when I realized I really could use a 5" phone one-handed.

I returned it cause it was a crappy phone...I had constant calls that wouldnt go through or couldnt be received on my end.

That was the deal killer for me that sent me back to my iphone5 that I love VERY MUCH. It's just that I would love a larger iphone even that much more, as I'm sure many of us would.

I really don't see a large screen phone on its own. I think apple will offer two models with different screen sizes and that's only if apple wants to put something larger out there. I really don't think they will.

I'm apparently in the minority but don't want to carry a tacky boom-box sized smartphone. I want it to look nice, function well in both personal and professional settings, and fit into my pocket comfortably.

I don't want to carry it on my shoulder. I left the 70's and won't return.

I figured i would chime in on the phone in the pocket thing...

I love all the large phones and have had pretty much everyone. The one thing they do not do in the pocket though is turn sideways like the iphone does because its so small. So at least in my experience the larger phones are a better fit for the pockets than the iphone(yes note 2 included)

I think they will release a 5C that is identical to the 5 in specs and a 5S that looks the same as the 5 but has internal upgrades. I don't think they will up the screen size anytime soon.
Not any time soon? That would not be a very smart move on Apple's part. The 5" is where it's at. Everybody knows it.

The 5" is where it makes you look like an idiot holding a phablet up to your head. So many people already complained about making the screen 4" and they hate it because their thumb isn't long enough.

I don't think as many people care about screen size as you think. Sure the avid enthusiast on this forum do but that's a pretty small percentage of Apple customers. I'm still happily using my 4S. Would I take a 4.3-4.7 screen? Sure but I'm just fine with 3.5-4.

People with failing eyesight (read: 50+) often go for the larger screened phones because they are easier on the eyes and don't require them to put on glasses to use. Not saying your assessment is wrong, per se, but it's more than just the avid enthusiast looking for the bigger phones, at least if Best Buy mobile is any indication.

Sorry lordofthereef, but my aging eyes need glasses even with a 24/30 inch computer screen, iPad, and a 7 inch GPS in my car. Just had to weigh in on that....;)

I don't doubt that. I'm just going with what the older generation is saying when they are buying their phones, that's all. Number one thing that the non teens and twenty something say they want out if a phone.

I think they are going to make the 5S 4.3 inches, but with the same form factor, featuring an edge to edge screen,; made possible by the new IGZO display technology, that doesn't require for the to be space on the edge for input to work.

I guess with that argument you could ask why most people don't settle for an iPod Touch? The cheap iPhone, like the Touch will no doubt have much less RAM, and use last year's CPU (the iPod Touch 5G uses the A5, the 4G isn't even getting iOS7 due to its lower specs). You will pay less, but probably won't software updates for 4 years like the iPhone does currently.
Basically instead of selling last years iPhone cheap, this will be sell last years iPhone in a new case cheap (in my opinion, anyway).

All I know is if a 5S version comes out with same screen I will skip the iPhone for the first time ever.

I have the 5. It a solid fast device. I like all types of phones and will probably get the Note 3 and wait for iPhone 6 in 2014.

You know you don't need to upgrade your phone every single year... Apple know this, and probably don't expect iPhone 5 owners to update (just as they didn't with the 3 to 3GS and 4 to 4S). I won't be that's for sure, no matter what it does.

Yes and no. If you are on a contract and eligible for upgrade you need to upgrade as soon as possible to reset the upgrade cycle. Or else you are just giving the carriers money by paying post paid prices and not using the upgrade.

We have 4 lines and I usually have a spare line eligible for upgrades. And I only pay $165 a month for 4 lines post paid. So carriers are like subsidize me $400 per line.

If you are on prepaid than upgrading doesn't make any sense every year.

Good point - I bought my phone outright for this reason. In the UK 12 month contracts are rare, most are 24 months.

that would be nice, and it's also the least they could do.
