I don't really get the criticism, tbh. The iPhone is fast, stable, long-lasting, good looking, and able to do everything I want a handheld to do. I'm not knocking the other options out there, but the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 are terrific and easily meet all my needs.

I agree! I'm not against Android at all. Personally, I think it is great that there are options. That way people can find what works best for them.

Apple's been given a lot of criticism lately. To be honoust, I've had it with all this criticism. Not that I don't think it's valid (some is, some isn't), it's just that I've grown tired of people being so critical on the iPhone. I'm just not interested in it anymore, I just want to enjoy my phone and be happy with it, even though it's not perfect.

That's why I decided to make a thread where we can praise our iPhone. Again, this is not a thread for moaning and critizing. If you feel the need to do so, please go to one of the many other threads. I'm sure you can start a great discussion there.

So, after all these years, why do you still love your iPhone? Why do you think it's still by far the best smartphone out there? You can name whatever you like, you can name the usual suspects (ecosystem) or the small details that almost no one notices except you.

I'll go first.

- I love that fonts render more nicely in iOS than in Android
- I love the edge-to-edge glass on the front, it's very clean, elegant. Almost no other phone has this 'purity'
- I love that Apple's app icons are way more beautiful than Googles
- I love the blue of the iMessage balloons, it's exactly the right color
- I love the fact there's almost no input lag when scrolling (Android still has it, no matter what people say, it's there)
- I love how snappy Safari feels (I'm not kidding ;))
- I love how elegant the lock screen notifications are
- I love how the home screens on iOS look so colorful, crisp yet clean. It's not 'stale', it's elegant!
- I love the weather widget, it's very informative and smartly hidden. (HTC Sense, I'm looking at you with your big ass weather clock which is very intrusive but does not give a lot of information at all)
- I love how simple and intuitive Facetime is. I like it better than Skype.
- I love turn-by-turn navigation on Apple Maps. A lot has been said about Apple Maps, but they really nailed it when it comes to turn-by-turn.
- I love the camera on my iPhone 5. The photos are amazing and always very sharp.
- I love how intuitive and functional the Music app is. I really have never seen anything alike on any mobile device. Not even close.
- I love the layouts of each contact in the contacts app. It's really like a 'card', rather than a list view of some export from some database.
- I love the layouts of the settings menu. It's nicely grouped and (again) elegant. Things are easy to find and it's not cluttered at all.
- I love the mail app. It's fast, it's functional. I know there are alternatives, I've tried them, but they don't match the stock mail app.
- I love the feeling that iCloud backups my phone every night. It makes me feel comfortable knowing that I'll never really lose anything.

I totally agree, everybody can choose what to use. I don't know why android fanboys hate so much apple. ;)

I really wish down voting was still here
It is.

I like auto backups and the web browsing experience in one of the best in the mobile computing area despite the lack of flash.

This post is just beautiful you basically said what me and most other people are thinking.

It is great because it is my phone, ipod, camera, GPS, portable gaming device, alarm clock, home media center remote and notepad all in one.

Not to mention other little amazing things I can do on it like pay at Starbucks, set a show to record on directv, track every calorie I eat in a day, my blood sugar, blood pressure and pulse rate all in one app that will create nifty little charts that I can then export info PDF or excel format and email to my doctor or print when I go to an appointment. Use shazam to tag songs and tell me who the artist is in about 15 seconds. Discover and stream as much music as I want on pandora. Have one password for an app that remembers EVERY password and login for me.

Seriously, this phone is amazing. It makes my life easier. It consolidates everything I could possibly need into one device. There are so many apps in the App Store that use the amazing powerfulness of the iPhone and make it even more useful in my normal everyday routine.

I would literally feel naked if I forget my phone at home.

Not to mention I'd be bored as hell for the entire day lol

I know there are many other smart phones out there these days with the same capabilities, but iOS is so fluid and smooth, it makes the user experience that much more enjoyable. Everything I need to do is so easily accomplished and I don't even have to think twice about how to do it because there's no guess work involved in how I want to get my tasks accomplished. Too easy.

I own an android tablet, my parents previously owned android operated phones and my nephew has an android phone. I've messed around with the android OS quite a bit, for a techie geek and someone who has a lot of time on their hands, it can be a very enjoyable OS. But if you want something that simply works great out of the box, I really feel like iOS is the way to go. I have since converted my parents to iPhones and they both love iOS a lot more than android.

Now all that said, my phone is jailbroken and I could never use a stock iPhone these days. Too restrictive =)

Also, does anyone else think that Apple really does think of the developers when programming their OS? It seems to me, from looking at my coworker when he's using his Android, that Apple wants people to actually open apps. Android seems to want users to not have to in order to get things done. I'm referring to notifications and widgets when making that assumption. Most things on that platform can be done without even leaving a window. What are the point of apps in that case?

I consider that a significant advantage Android has over iOS. Glanceable information on the home screen is awesome. I like apps, and iOS has a ton of good ones - but there's stuff I simply prefer having out in the open, immediately accessible in the form of widgets.

Not sure this still applies, to be honest. I sold my Nexus 4 for reasons that don't pertain to this thread, but one thing's for sure: it worked just as well out of the box as any iPhone I've ever owned. Hell, when you get a smartphone these days you basically enter some account info, wait a few seconds - and you're good to go. Both (stock) Android and iOS are incredibly easy to set up and actually use.

The fact that you were compelled to post a "still rocks" thread is evidence Apple is slipping on the innovation and quality fronts.

But hey, keep your insecurities momentarily at bay with these postings if it helps you get through another day. Just try to see all those dents, dings, and scratches as 'added character'.

I don't really need an innovation on every new phone.
Sometimes an evolution is better than a revolution, and this is exactly what I got in my experience with the iPhone (3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4s -> 5).

Quality ? Nothing comparable at an iPhone out there, so no complains ...

To stick with the thread, what I love is the whole ecosystem. I tried, and still use, android (now a Galaxy III Mini and a Galaxy III) and windows phone (now a Lumia 810), all excellent phones but non comparable with my iPhone in my opinion.

You're tired and hate your phone/OS being criticized so you make a long post doing the same thing to another phone/OS? Nice.

If you want to tell yourself that.

To me its just evidence that these forums have turned into Engadget/The Verge II, where armchair Fandroids comes to moan and whine about everything Apple.

Just a helpful hint...next time when starting a thread where you don't want the competitor to chime in, don't bash the competitor. It's like trying to set rules for a fight..."I'm going to be able to kick you in the stomach, but you're not allowed to touch me". Kind of shallow minded to be honest. I could list counterpoints to almost every point you posted as to why modern android devices (HTC One, Optimus G and G Pro, Nexus 4, Note 2, S4 etc) make a mockery of the iPhone these days, but I'll let you guys have your fun.

The fact that the 4S alone outsold the S3 last quarter most certainly means that Apple isnt slipping on quality OR innovation. The iPhone 5 basically sold double of what the S3 did last quarter.

With that being said, both Android and iOS have their strengths and weaknesses, but i love the software/hardware combination of Apple products

I have never owned an Apple product because I don't like closed systems. I also never owned a smartphone before I bought my iPhone 5.

This is indeed the most elegant, well-engineered smartphone on the market. Movies look great on the Retina display. The phone is just the right size and weight--I carry it in my shirt pocket all day long.

Am I bothered that I can't access the file system? Yes.

Am I bothered that I have to use iTunes when I have excellent music programs on my PC and have ordered and tagged all my thousands of albums just as I want them? Yes.

Am I bothered that I can't create sorting rules and folders in the Mail app? Yes.

Would I buy an Android phone to get those missing features? No.

I've found workarounds. DiskAid gives me access to all my app file systems and lets me drag and drop from my PC. HDPlayer Pro plays all my Matroska videos with hardware acceleration. Capriccio and Equalizer Pro play my FLAC files, even the hi-res ones, and let me organize my music into folders. Apple won't allow a good Mail app in the store, so I'm stuck with that one, but for the most part I can make this phone do what I want.

I still wouldn't buy a Mac, because I build my own PCs and get exactly the components I want. There are better programs on Windows for what I do than there are on OS X. They're still too expensive. I wouldn't buy an iPad, because I don't need a tablet and they're way too expensive.

But I'd never give up my iPhone 5. It's the most perfect piece of hardware I own, and I'm about as far from being an Apple fan boy as you can get. Bravo Apple on this one.

There is a new mail app that is out now for gmail and supposed to have support for other email domains real soon. There is a waiting list for it, but the sooner you download it the sooner you'll have it. I think it's just called Mail.

Let me clarify that: it's not meant for an 'iPhone vs. Android' discussion, we have had tons of those.

It is, because that's what you have made in the first post. Saying...

- I love that fonts render more nicely in iOS than in Android
- I love that Apple's app icons are way more beautiful than Googles

...And so on and so on is detrimental to your point (and tbh to your credibility). I really like my iPhone, I'm not going to get rid of it any time soon, and I think it's the most useful thing I have ever bought. But if someone asked me why I like it, I would say "because it's versatile", not "because it's more versatile than Android"; I would say "it's pretty", not "it's prettier than Google's phone", and so on.

I'm not bashing anyone, but sometimes you'll start loving certain things because you realize how much worse it is elsewhere.

Furthermore, I don't think I'm bashing anyone, just some subjective thoughts about Android isn't really bashing.

I think you're nitpicking here, I'm not saying Android's fonts and icons suck, just merely stating that I prefer the ones of iOS. I don't think that's a crime.

iPhone 5 is still the best smartphone to date hands down! It's near perfect in every aspect, except for the fact that it's only 4" small.
